to think that you can't use bury and berry as homophones in Yorkshire?

DS2 came home with this in his spellings homework. I know we're in a naice part of Yorkshire, but nevertheless

ah yes the buzz we used to get the buzz to schoo, when i moved to bolton i was confused with people asking for pop when the meant any drink to me pop is fizzy and comes in a can.

i do vaguley remember my history teacher telling me that the name Bury came from Burr meaning market place so maybe it should be Burry rather then Berry.

All pronounced "berry" as far as I am concerned (I'm a southerner). My father came from just north of Bury and pronounced it "Burry". Glastonbury is pronounced "Glastonbree", strawberry and raspberry are "strawbree and rahzbree",

I'd be interested to hear from anyone in Bury to know how they pronounce the name?

Round here, it is said both ways, but the true way is Bury, not Berry (you eat those).

I'm surprised at the amount of people who would use Berry for Bury St Edmunds.

The only person I know who would pronounce them the same is from Bradford. She'd also pronounce won and one as homophones but I wouldn't

Won and one are the same to me, I'm trying hard to imagine how else you'd say them

My bf from the south was amazed when I said bury is to put something in the ground & cover it in earth. She said no you berry it & I said only if you're going to cover the fucking corpse in fruit love...
