To prevent DS channeling Richard III?

CecilyNeville · 21/06/2017 14:30

DS is 7. DS likes having longish hair. I like DS having longish hair. However he consented to me cutting his fringe a bit the other day, and now he looks like Richard III as played by Laurence Olivier.

He says he likes the rest of his hair as it is, and doesn't want to cut the length further. Is there anything I can do to kindly, fairly resolve this!? I don't want him to feel coerced, but it really really isn't a good look. We are not Plantagenets.

man bun...then you can enter him for Eurovision.

Changedtocovermyass · 21/06/2017 21:52

wonders if I actually just spotted someone I know on MN

SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman · 21/06/2017 21:55

Is it just me filled with joy at the use of the word "barnet"? And doubly so in a thread about Yorkists?

You have a battle on your hands, Cecily.

corythatwas · 21/06/2017 21:58

imo there is nothing more annoying than a young man who spends all his time courting an amorous looking glass, not to mention strutting before an ambling wanton nymph- I think you should encourage his present stance

FloofyCat · 22/06/2017 08:02

Surely I admired that wonderful use of barnet, you're not alone!

Didn't we have a great Plantagenets (or was it Tudors) thread a while ago? Methinks it might be time for another.

TheLegendOfBeans · 22/06/2017 08:24

Surely I was gonna say that too! #geeksunite

Toadinthehole · 22/06/2017 08:27

What's wrong with the tumbling billows of his mane?

TheWhiteRoseOfYork · 22/06/2017 08:45

Henry VIII also sported a similar bob in his early days. I think the style is due a revival actually, your DS could be at the cutting edge of historical hairdos.

I once knew someone who was convinced she is a reincarnation of Dick 3. (Member of the various fan clubs, etc).

For a minute I thought she had competition.

JoffreyBaratheon · 22/06/2017 09:07

Also - at least he's not channelling Henry VIII.

TheWhiteRoseOfYork · 22/06/2017 09:08

Wow Joffrey Did you ask her what happened to the boys?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/06/2017 09:15

Best thread ever.

cowgirlsareforever · 22/06/2017 09:20

I'm thinking along these lines.

"....can you imagine it, I'm the last Plantagenet...."

"....taking retro to it's logical conclusion..."

The best graffiti I have ever seen was 'Robbo has the hairstyle of a man from the past' - makes me chuckle every time I remember it and would love to have seen Robbo's ketwig 😁

peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/06/2017 10:02

I have a deep need to watch HH now

JackieMac77 · 22/06/2017 11:34

If your DS looks like Richard III, then I'd guess he's also not dissimilar to Lord Farquaad in Shrek? Could you put on the DVD (he's in the first Shrek film), point out the similarity in hairstyles, then get on with some housework/MNing and let the Dreamworks animation work its' magic...pretty sure he'll be wanting a visit to the barber afterwards Grin

Caenea · 22/06/2017 12:03

Encourage it.

Nothing gets a teenager to do something faster than their parent thinking what they are currently doing is "cool."

VeryFoolishFay · 22/06/2017 13:14

My then 8 year old DD took the scissors to her own fringe. I actually got the professionals involved to try to moderate the impact but with a long bob she was the spit of Dave Hill for about 3 months. I was tempted to get a t shirt printed saying 'No, this was not my mother's idea.'

JoffreyBaratheon · 22/06/2017 13:45

TheWhiteRose (please tell me I'm not bitching about you here...)

I never thought to ask her but she was such a fangirl, am pretty certain she'd have denied all knowledge.

My sons currently look like they just are about to get on a train and go to the trenches in WW2. They have that No 1 at the sides and Hugh Grant floppy on top hair-do.

JoffreyBaratheon · 22/06/2017 13:46

To parents of teens: if you want to humiliate them, try "dabbing" (you'll have to Google it). That cringes the shit out of them.

londonmummy1966 · 22/06/2017 13:49

Leave it for a year and then he'll channeling Charles II...

TheWhiteRoseOfYork · 22/06/2017 14:02

Joffrey No worries, I am pretty sure I am not your friend. However If for some reason the Wars of the Roses were to be replayed again in modern times, my username is a pretty big clue as to which side I would declare for. Loyalty Binds Us.
