To prevent DS channeling Richard III?

DS is 7. DS likes having longish hair. I like DS having longish hair. However he consented to me cutting his fringe a bit the other day, and now he looks like Richard III as played by Laurence Olivier.

He says he likes the rest of his hair as it is, and doesn't want to cut the length further. Is there anything I can do to kindly, fairly resolve this!? I don't want him to feel coerced, but it really really isn't a good look. We are not Plantagenets.

If your DS looks like Richard III, then I'd guess he's also not dissimilar to Lord Farquaad in Shrek? Could you put on the DVD (he's in the first Shrek film), point out the similarity in hairstyles, then get on with some housework/MNing and let the Dreamworks animation work its' magic...pretty sure he'll be wanting a visit to the barber afterwards
