To prevent DS channeling Richard III?

CecilyNeville · 21/06/2017 14:30

DS is 7. DS likes having longish hair. I like DS having longish hair. However he consented to me cutting his fringe a bit the other day, and now he looks like Richard III as played by Laurence Olivier.

He says he likes the rest of his hair as it is, and doesn't want to cut the length further. Is there anything I can do to kindly, fairly resolve this!? I don't want him to feel coerced, but it really really isn't a good look. We are not Plantagenets.

It's hair. It'll grow out.

If he doesn't care about the teasing, it will stop. If he's bothered, he'll cut his hair.

If he has to tie his hair back at school, he will. If he's bothered, he'll cut his hair.

It's really a non-issue.

(Maybe next time give him the Mumsnet haircut.)

When I read the thread title I thought he'd be determined to "contact" Richard III through some ouija board or whichery ... I'm quite relieved...

Dawnedlightly · 21/06/2017 18:44

😂 thank you Cecily and your son 😂

deplorabelle · 21/06/2017 18:45

My DS channeled Professor Snape for well over a YEAR. Eventually you reach peak embarrassment and don't feel it any more

VerityHabitat · 21/06/2017 18:46

OMG allegretto

That was epic. I so needed that laugh.

ForalltheSaints · 21/06/2017 18:50

Is the OP sure the family is not descended from the Plantagenets?

Anyway, much better than some of the hairstyles the young have nowadays.

MetalMidget · 21/06/2017 18:50

Try thinking less of Richard III, and more He-man or Spinal Tap. Would that help?

Notknownatthisaddress · 21/06/2017 18:52

We need a pic. I cannot picture how it looks.

FloatyCat · 21/06/2017 18:56

Could you shorten it a little bit leave it s bit shaggy (thinking of Liam Gallagher)? Or a man bun??otherwise goodness knows, he may have to get to chopped.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 21/06/2017 19:00

If it's any consolation I reckon poor old Richard III weren't so bad. Shakespeare was writing for Elizabeth I and she'd have chopped his head off if he hadn't villified him (remember her grandfather took the crown off him on the battlefield and then married his poor sister to legitimise their children's birthright).

Anyway, back on point, perhaps you should get your son a horse?

Notknownatthisaddress · 21/06/2017 19:01

Urgh! Man buns are the most hideous male hairstyle since the mullet!

There's always this OP Grin

`OPs son with crown effect as suggested by GiBlues

minisoksmakehardwork · 21/06/2017 19:52

Is it anything like Noel Fielding's look? He could challenge his inner boosh instead.

If he liked his hair long-ish and you did a poor job in trimming his fringe, it's your fault. He lived up to the deal by letting you cut the fringe. Insisting on cutting the rest off to soothe your vanity doesn't respect his autonomy. A haircut that isn't to your taste hurts nobody. Leave him be unless he wants another trim.

IonaMumsnet · 21/06/2017 21:10

There is, it must be said, something very Henry VII about the barnet most 14-month-olds get at some point RIGHT before their parents whip them to the hairdressers for their first trim. It should be known as the Bosworth Field Effect, IMHO.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 21/06/2017 21:13

He is clearly determined to prove a villain - I'd keep a careful eye on him for murderous behaviour if I were you OP... Confused

derxa · 21/06/2017 21:17

Iona Grin

MrsSkeletor · 21/06/2017 21:18

Yeah exactly - cutting Richard the Third's hair against his will is probably risky. Lock your doors at night if you try it.

UsernameInvalid66 · 21/06/2017 21:23

you MIGHT be a Plantagenet and your ds is fulfilling his destiny

One of you might in fact be the righful heir to the throne (if, like me, you think Henry Tudor was the usurper and some relative of the Plantagenets should have been reinstated).

CecilyNeville · 21/06/2017 21:25

I burst into laughing at dinner because I started thinking about Dave Hill from Slade - DS demanded to know what I was laughing about, and I had to make an unconvincing excuse.

Maybe if I could just layer it a bit to break it up... (famous last words before many a woman has made an emergency dash to the hairdressers, swathed in a headscarf).

Dave Hill from Slade - Grin I saw him at Glasgow University Union in the 70s Hilarious.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 21/06/2017 21:45

Imagining Richard III in a Dave Hill stage outfit has made my evening!! Glittery Richard!

derxa · 21/06/2017 21:49

He really did wear the silver outfit.
