It's too hot for high drama, but nonetheless we persist (Trump cont.)

I'm all out of inspiration here. The grind is getting us all down, interspersed with terrorist attacks, but we shall overcome. In the meantime, there's gin and camaraderie.

Tweet from Claude Taylor who has good IC sources

Sources (multiple) confirm that WaPo has story detailing evidence of Trump collusion.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/06/2017 00:13

As far as the WSJ story, it's all still wrapped up in plausible deniability, isn't it?

They'll just say that Flynn was 'operating independently' and that Scrotus 'knew nothing about it'. An obvious lie but without a smoking gun it really can't be proven either way.

ayylmaooo · 30/06/2017 00:15

Lweji, what on earth does Obamacare have to do with the fake news Russia conspiracy which you ate up for months?

thedcbrokemybank, my post had nothing to do with the lie itself, it was about Lweji's response to it and the hilarious hypocrisy which flows through this thread.

Show me a lie that I have supported or brushed off.

By your logic, I can just say 'it happens' any time Trump is caught lying, right? If anyone calls me out on it I'll just play the 'what about' game and point to a lie someone else told. Wew m8

So please go ahead and explain the irony.

cozietoesie · 30/06/2017 00:18

I guess we'll just have to wait, Across.

lionheart · 30/06/2017 01:00

ayyylmao refer to Lweji's questions on page 28 and 29. They're quite comprehensive. Are you happy your POTUS tweets in a aggressive, demeaning and childish fashion? In fact, if my teenager did something like that (and he wouldn't -he's more mature - he'd be grounded for some time and his phone removed.

Sorry I have not participated much in this thread lately but wanted to share this great video which made me feel better.

gumpedorf I think Claude Taylor is similar to Louise Mensch, which is to say they both seem to be pushing misinformation.

JenAshleyWright @JenAshleyWright
The head of the NRA said: "academic elites, political elites, and media elites. These are America’s greatest domestic threats"
This should trouble you - especially the academic elites part - as most horrible authoritarian governments begin by targeting intellectuals
Mao bragged, "Emperor Shih Huang of the China Dynasty.. had buried alive 460 scholars only, but we have buried alive 46,000 scholars."
The Khmer Rouge murdered anyone who wore eyeglasses on the assumption that they could read and were an intellectual
Franco was violently anti-intellectual, which is why your favorite writers were all off fighting the Spanish civil war.
The Night of the Long Batons where libraries were burnt, and academics ousted from housing ushered in Onganía's dictatorship in Argentina
And I forgot the best one of all - "When I hear the word culture I reach for my revolver." (By Nazi playwright Hanns Johst.)
And, because this isn't coming up on the thread, Lenin's regime began by exiling 220 prominent intellectuals on "philosopher's ships."

CNN has sacked the journalists involved (as was pointed out in the post you reference). Do you therefore agree that those in the White House involved in spreading lies should also be sacked? If CNN is still so awful and unforgivable even after sacking those involved what about a white house that continues to allow those spewing obvious misinformation and lies to stay in post?

It was strange to me, the idea that somewhere at Google there is a database containing 25-million books and nobody is allowed to read them.

www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2017/04/the-tragedy-of-google-books/523320/

Google seems to have spotted this.

I was going to throw out a lot of my books, but have decided to keep and accumulate more.

and what elenagreco said, thank you saffronblue

thedcbrokemybank · 30/06/2017 07:59

ayylmaooo
The irony is that you are defending a comprehensive liar who could arguably be deemed as inciting hatred whilst simultaneously attacking someone who pointed out that sometimes this does happen and the news agency has dealt with it effectively. It also has been made into something it wasn't. Just like the James O'Keefe video which was advocated by the WH itself despite it not being verified.

By your logic, I can just say 'it happens' any time Trump is caught lying, right? If anyone calls me out on it I'll just play the 'what about' game and point to a lie someone else told.

But this is exactly what is happening and you have shared and contributed nothing that would give evidence to the contrary except reference to a story that was retracted, apologised for and dealt with and a video which according to those featured was heavily edited and taken out of context.

Lweji · 30/06/2017 08:25

It's funny how certain types of pps concentrate on one sentence and "forget" the rest of the content of the post that would render their argument invalid.

My post was:
People lie
CNN journalists who lied once were sacked.
Liars at the WH who liw every five minutes, starting with the President, keep their jobs.

Are you happy with a President that contradicts himself in the same sentence?

Gumpendorf · 30/06/2017 08:27

Pain, I'm no fan of Mensch but both she and Taylor have been right since this began. I don't know their agenda or from where they get their info but it's been spot on. Taylor is not the first to mention WaPo have a big story brewing that's worrying the WH and the IC community. I suppose we must wait and see. Smile

Lweji · 30/06/2017 08:30

The Russia investigation is only one aspect. It's bad enough that there are suspicions of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
It's worse that the president refuses to investigate it and tries to close the investigation.

But his presidency is a disaster and a danger for the USA for several other reasons too. Possibly even more worrying than any collusion with Russia.

Gumpendorf · 30/06/2017 08:46

I keep coming back to Sally Yates comment, Lweji. The bar should not be
whether Trump has committed a felony. However, on this occasion SHS is right - the American people did know what they were voting for. Trump has never been anything but a thug and bully, especially when cornered. It's the GOP enabling of his behaviour and its attempts to obstruct justice that is the new aspect here. All for the Koch brothers and their tax cuts?

lionheart · 30/06/2017 09:36

Sally Yates is right. Smile
