I'm all out of inspiration here. The grind is getting us all down, interspersed with terrorist attacks, but we shall overcome. In the meantime, there's gin and camaraderie.

Nevertheless.

Thanks for the new thread, illegitimate.

Lweji · 20/06/2017 08:15

So, POTUS is like an asteroid heading for Earth.
"Alternative impact."

Staring Yates, Comey, Rosenstein, Pelosi.... On a mission to save Earth (or the US which is where these things always hit)

Just checking in the new thread.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/06/2017 08:18

Can anyone remind of the phrase used a couple of days ago about POTUS' poor grasp of language to explain away Comey and the pleadging loyalty revelations? Thanks in advance.

And I know I shouldn't complain but its hotter here at the mo than the meditteranean city we are visiting over the summer! Too much!

Ah, the Panama Canal.
A forced split from Colombia
Thousands of lives lost, particularly to malaria. A death rate of 10:1 back:white.

The Noriega years...

Just great.

Thanks for the new thread

I've just realised the news about poor Otto. :(

Ar least he was home when he died. I expect the great leader wanted to make an example out of him.

I hope people stop going to this country as if it was just another tourist destination. It's bloody dangerous.

Natsku · 20/06/2017 08:37

Poor lad :(

Has anyone else come across this slightly worrying report about the Republicans' database of American voters?

www.upguard.com/breaches/the-rnc-files

'In what is the largest known data exposure of its kind, UpGuard’s Cyber Risk Team can now confirm that a misconfigured database containing the sensitive personal details of over 198 million American voters was left exposed to the internet by a firm working on behalf of the Republican National Committee (RNC) in their efforts to elect Donald Trump. The data, which was stored in a publicly accessible cloud server owned by Republican data firm Deep Root Analytics, included 1.1 terabytes of entirely unsecured personal information compiled by DRA and at least two other Republican contractors, TargetPoint Consulting, Inc. and Data Trust. In total, the personal information of potentially near all of America’s 200 million registered voters was exposed, including names, dates of birth, home addresses, phone numbers, and voter registration details, as well as data described as “modeled” voter ethnicities and religions.'

Lweji · 20/06/2017 09:10

On the approval ratings:

No, it's not higher than Obama.
No, all other polls have lower approval rates.
Disapproval is also 50%, man! Nothing to be cheerful about.

Thanks for the new thread Mort.

You'd be amazed (well I was) at the information about Americans that's already public.

Pick a random name and google it or try it in voterrecords.com or mylife.com or beenverified.com, or one of the other sites those link to.

Eg I tried Anthony Mackie (like the hunky actorBlush). And 'tinternet is more than happy to tell me all this about some random person called Anthony Mackie:

voterrecords.com/voter/4691562/anthony-mackie
Anthony M. Mackie (age 62) is listed at 291 High Plains Drive Orange, CT and is affiliated with the Democratic Party. He is a male registered to vote in Connecticut.
Overview of Mr. Anthony M. Mackie
Lives in: Orange, Connecticut
Phone: (203) 891-0600
Age: 62
Gender: Male
Anthony Mackie's Voter Registration
Party Affiliation: Democratic Party
Registered to Vote In: Connecticut
Registration Date: 10/06/2008
Voter Status: Active Precinct: 00
Congressional District: 003
Senate District: 014

It also gives likely family members, neighbours, and offers a "Full Background Report" (think I'd have to pay for that, and I think it includes convictions and maybe financial info).

Some of these sites also list date of birth in the free info, where they've been able to find it.

TheClaws · 20/06/2017 09:59

Illegitimate, was it something to with a lack of language "discipline"? I rather liked that, though applying it to 45 as an excuse shows a lack of courage and honesty, imo.

blueskyinmarch · 20/06/2017 10:32

Thanks for the new thread. I am feeling that it is all becoming such a drudge now. There has been so much to contend with here in the UK at the moment that i have rather lost sight of Trumps shenanigans. I must #persist.

lionheart · 20/06/2017 10:42

Some more links at the end of the previous thread hackmum.

But so many of the issues we have been discussing in these threads have a technological/cyber dimension--it is incredible.

One thing that did emerge from the various hearings was that this was a very real threat to democracy and that much more has to be done to defend against and anticipate the risks.

lionheart · 20/06/2017 10:43

In the meantime, the Trumpers failed to do some pretty basic checks here (or else were running out of willing candidates):

I'm sorry, I know that most people don't really want to know what's he's saying and I will stop if it's too much but why the fuck is he tweeting about Father's Day now? Well, I know why - because someone's made it about him - but still for fuck's sake!

Meanwhile Trump is snubbing the Ukrainian President.

www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jun/20/ukrainian-president-to-drop-in-on-trump-during-washington-visit

Although it could be a coincidence and he's just avoiding any meetings with the press.

Lweji · 20/06/2017 11:49

Attacking NK with nuclear missiles wouldn't be a preemptive strike. It would be a war crime.

cozietoesie · 20/06/2017 12:02

Quote of the week - from that article. (Relying on memory here.)

'What are they gonna do? Fight back?'

thedcbrokemybank · 20/06/2017 12:11

This is an interesting yet scary read. Not directly related to Trump but I think it does give insight to what and why stuff is happening at the moment:

Ooops - haven't read previous threads in their entirety! Will go and take a look. Have to admire all the work all of you are doing in gathering this info and putting it in one place.
