I'm all out of inspiration here. The grind is getting us all down, interspersed with terrorist attacks, but we shall overcome. In the meantime, there's gin and camaraderie.

I was particularly impressed by Neal Katyal who responded, I thought, with eloquence and some heavy weight. I've not seen him speaking before.

I see that the IMF has cut its US growth forecasts.

IMF forecast

cozietoesie · 27/06/2017 18:23

I should add that I haven't seen the original IMF release.

lionheart · 27/06/2017 18:32

Yes, it was cozie.

Hope Bigly sees it. Smile

Lweji · 27/06/2017 18:33

Imagine if certain people holding public office resigned for lying. We wouldn't have these threads anymore.

Lweji · 27/06/2017 18:35

That forecast is definitely bad news for the budget that relies on growth to make up for the tax shortfall.

cozietoesie · 27/06/2017 18:36

And if there's a trade war on top?

Ouch.

Also: @VP Pence invited GOP senators to the White House this afternoon for a 4pm meeting

cozietoesie · 27/06/2017 18:51

Ah. He couldn't get the votes this week?

cozietoesie · 27/06/2017 18:54

I seem to recall, Pain, that he was inviting the likely 'holdouts' and not the whole bunch. (I could have misremembered.)

Lweji · 27/06/2017 19:06

Votes in two weeks?

Reluctant GOP Senators should remember that he's a conman. They can't trust his promises.

lionheart · 27/06/2017 19:12

I was impressed by Neal Katyal too.

cozietoesie · 27/06/2017 19:18

'Two weeks' does seem to be the going phrase..........

Syrian warning

BiglyBadgers · 27/06/2017 19:54

Gah! Heard about the possible, maybe Syrian chemical attack that may or may not happen, on the radio this morning. I can only think that the last time anyone said anything vaguely positive about him was when he dropped that huge bomb after the last chemical attack in Syria. Seems like he is dying to relive the moment. Hmm

BiglyBadgers · 27/06/2017 19:58

I'm a bit confused by all the people claiming the travel ban ban has been lifted and trump has won. My reading of the situation is that the court has said they won't look at it until October, so are allowing something sort of in the middle of the full ban and no ban in order to seem non-commital until a formal decision has been made. Nobody has 'won' anything yet, unless I have completely misunderstood. Confused

I hope that everyone is watching the C4 serialisation of The Handmaid's Tale?

PS - I trust that none of the US posters here are from Illinois? The US may never in practice default but Illinois is in a ........difficult situation.
