I'm all out of inspiration here. The grind is getting us all down, interspersed with terrorist attacks, but we shall overcome. In the meantime, there's gin and camaraderie.

It almost makes you wonder whether there's a case in the pipeline in which he's interested. Wants to go out in a blaze of opining. Wink

Interesting Beast piece on ........Russia.

Over and over again

He's here until .July 11 if I recall?

AcrossthePond55 · 25/06/2017 21:58

Associate Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., who served from 1902 to 1932, retired at age 90, making him the oldest person ever to sit on the court. (Wiki)

Kennedy should be good for at least 10 more years. Grin

cozietoesie · 25/06/2017 22:06

I was told a story once. Holmes and - I think - Brandeis were meandering gently across the legal quadrangle when the pair chanced across a nubile and pert young lady. Holmes turned to Brandeis and said 'Oh Louis. Oh to be 70 again'.

That's as it was told to me. Grin

cozietoesie · 25/06/2017 22:24

Nah. You have until July 11, I think. Grin

cozietoesie · 25/06/2017 22:56

Ouch. I'm going to have to see the darned thing I guess - although I assume that Vlad knew all about Oliver before the interviews were agreed.

lionheart · 25/06/2017 22:57

Another thing I can't watch.

lionheart · 25/06/2017 22:58

Another form of toxic hyper-masculinity tied to nationalism?

cozietoesie · 25/06/2017 23:03

The Kissinger Effect, I guess. No reason why men should be immune.

Melanie-bot sketch on Tracey Ullman v funny

cozietoesie · 25/06/2017 23:24

Interestingly, it seems that the US economic indicators are not quite as healthy as 45 is claiming. I wonder whether Americans are being just that little bit.....cautious about expenditure?

lionheart · 26/06/2017 00:01

Before summer’s out, we'll repeal/replace Obamacare w/ system based on personal responsibility, free-market competition & state-based reform

That’s the Republican way. That’s the American way. And, that’s the way we’re going to reform health care in the 21st Century.

lionheart · 26/06/2017 00:05

Had never looked on Pence's Twitter feed before.

A revelation--but not in a good way (the kind that calls to mind at least one of the horsemen of the Apocalypse).

TheClaws · 26/06/2017 00:20

I found this very funny.

Lweji · 26/06/2017 00:57

Speaking of economic indicators, has anyone in GOP and the current administration looked at the health indicators?

That's the American way. Sigh.

You've forgotten, Lweji. That's all going to be Bigly changed by Trumpcare. Grin

Cyber-attack on UK parliament: Russia is suspected culprit
Fewer than 90 email accounts with weak passwords are believed to have been hacked in ‘sustained’ attack

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 26/06/2017 06:56

From Lweji's link:

The latest report from the Commonwealth Fund, which routinely points to the shortcomings of the U.S. healthcare system, shows not much has changed in 15 years or longer. Americans still pay far more for medical care than people in other rich Western nations but have little to show for all that spending.

And yet it is this kind of marketised free-for-all (damaging our free at the point of delivery system) that the Tories are champing at the bit to implement here in the UK. Hmm

"Cyber-attack on UK parliament: Russia is suspected culprit"

Why isn't this a massive frontpage headline on every newspaper? Surely it can't just be me who thinks there's something seriously wrong when a foreign power starts hacking into our politicians' emails?
