People's Assembly

For those of us who are sick and tired and angry and devastated.

Sadly there's always 'a certain element' cross. Does that mean that ordinary decent law-abiding taxpaying people don't get to voice our anger?

I didn't say that. But I think, whilst many people demonstrating will have good motives and aims it is important to be aware that some have motives and aims which are not so good and that this second group often try to manipulate the first.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 08:57

cross but what does that mean? That people shouldn't protest in case a cider-swilling young person starts a riot?

The vast vast majority of protests in our country are peaceful. Sometimes they even change things. At the very least, they unite people. I don't know how anyone can complain about that.

I'm in Korea. The old president was recently impeached because people continued protesting (very peacefully, only a couple of arrests.) I think she thought that if she just held on, people would give up and go away, but they didn't. She was also democratically elected, so should people have just put up with her corruption because she had won an election? Obviously not. Same thing here. People don't agree with this government. So they are protesting. As is their right.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 09:04

The excuse that marches might lead to riots again

Riots happen because of anger..because people are not heard. Yes there could be riots at the moment but not because me and my mum will march. Because of austerity...the very thing we are protesting against

Get it now? Marches don't cause riots. The causes of some marches do. It called looking at the bigger picture

As I said before if the people of Grenfell as to march for them I will. And anyone who has an issue with this why don't you pop down to West London and explain your views to them rather than bash out your bile anonymously here. Go on..I dare you

Freddystarshamster · 16/06/2017 09:04

Protests are not riots. Most protest marches in the UK are completely peaceful. The only ones that ever seem to verge on violence are those involving the EDL

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 09:05

Rufus thanks for the tip I will look them up!

LorelaiLeighGilmore · 16/06/2017 09:12

Exploding

See you there.

Also a Londoner, live and work. To the tourists coming up for the day, sorry that 0.00001 % of the capital won't be available to you.

LorelaiLeighGilmore · 16/06/2017 09:13

To the posters above saying they're bored of politics, why waste your time saying you're bored of politics on a thread which is about politics? Baffling.

CrossWordSalad · 16/06/2017 09:18

A lot of people seem to have forgotten the Poll Tax rmarch/riot. Not EDL if I remember correctly.

Aeroflotgirl · 16/06/2017 09:19

There already has been a general election, and this is the result, YABVVVU.

And that disaster specifically being a fire...

CrossWordSalad · 16/06/2017 09:22

cross but what does that mean? That people shouldn't protest in case a cider-swilling young person starts a riot?

It means what it says. That whilst some people are aiming for a legitimate protest, to show their views and put pressure on for whatever they are protesting about to change, other people will deliberately incite rioting as part of their political agitation.

Does that mean people shouldn't demonstrate? No and I don't know how many times I need to state that before people stop asking me if that is what I believe.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 09:26

It's an anti austerity march....but on the upside if we shout Tories out maybe they will get the message?

So sorry that you are all feeling so passionate about people excerising their right to march

It's almost like you fear everything you thought you gained last year.....is...just....slipping....away........

Direct your passion and thought processes as to why Grenfell is part if this discussion. Try it you might learn something

And I remember the poll tax riots...it changed policy didn't it? Why would you be worried about? I hope it does. We need to help our poor and vunerable

You lot keep looking out for number one. I'll be marching with my mum

deffoncforthis · 16/06/2017 09:27
  1. Is this another protest against democracy?

Or

  1. is it a protest about the tragedy in London we can all agree should not have happened?
  1. Or are you exploiting people's grief and agony and shock at the Grenfell Tower fire to mix it in and strengthen your anti-democracy cause?

If 1, do give it a rest please

If 2, I'll come

If 3, well isn't that just the lowest of the low.

CrossWordSalad · 16/06/2017 09:27

And before anyone asks, yes I think the Poll Tax march was legitimate and indeed was on it myself. No, I didn't join in the rioting. I mention the Poll Tax riot in answer to the "all marches which turn violent are EDL" posts.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 09:28

cross so what is your suggestion then? If multiple people can't understand you, perhaps you need to explain better.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 09:28

Buzz buzz buzz

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 16/06/2017 09:29

A protest is not a riot but the police force have to be prepared for it to become one. Given how stretched they are at the moment, I'd rather they didn't have to police something which doesn't have to happen but spent their precious resources keeping us all safe instead.

CrossWordSalad · 16/06/2017 09:29

everthick Are you a member of any political organisations, just out of interest?

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 09:30

Oh I can't be arsed to help people understand why I and others are marching.....and I don't have to hurrah!

This is thread to say there is a march..why not come and ask people yourself...and pop down to West London and ask in the mean time

Oh you keyboard warriors you...you are so very naughty!

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 09:31

Oh cross. That's so clever! Must have taken a while

Isawesausittingonaseesaw · 16/06/2017 09:31

Amazed that everthick claims to be middle aged but uses words like lol and resorts to insults because it has nothing to say.

But LOVING the idea that the Tories might see a bunch of middle aged women in worse shoes than TM and decide to go.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 09:33

Stack them on.....you might actually have an insult that makes me laugh...but I doubt it

Is this what it's like when the bullies try and get you in the playground?

deffoncforthis · 16/06/2017 09:35

It's another momentum member isn't it.

"It's almost like you fear everything you thought you gained last year.....is...just....slipping....away........"

Oh, how tragically naive you are, young man.
