To ask for a hand hold for the next 2 weeks...

Some of you read about my Sainsburys victory the other day (yay!). As some may know, I have autism (high functioning) and depend a lot on my mum, who I see every day.

Today she is going on holiday for 2 weeks, and I'll only have her at the end of the phone, with just Toby the cat for company, and my manchild older brother who doesn't believe I have autism. He will be staying at my mum's house which is a 20 min walk from my flat.

I'm panicking already. I see her everyday, I struggle some days with terrible clinical depression and anxiety, and I don't know how I'm going to cope without her. I have some of my weekly groups to go to (art class, coffee groups) but I still have weekends and evenings/mornings where my anxiety can be worse.

Can I ask for a virtual handhold from someone to get me through the next 2 weeks? I'm going to make a list/routine of things I can do everyday to help me.

it sounds like you are doing really well and really are managing, your mum will be so proud of you when she comes back.

what type of jigsaw are you doing? I used to love a jigsaw, you've really put me in the mood to do one Smile

The jigsaw sounds great fun. You are doing really well. I am pleased to see that you have made a plan of things to do as your art group isn't running.

Sounds like you are doing really well Smile

One thing I have repeated in the past, I hope it helps you in a small way; "sometimes you feel like you can't do it but that does not mean you can't" feelings and reality are hard to separate, especially at times of stress. Just keep reminding yourself that your feelings at one moment don't have to define your reality.

I love a good jigsaw. And I'm a fellow Disney fan. What is the jigsaw of?

Thank you Buffering. I know what you mean, I just find it hard to remain rational when anxious.

Finola It's a panoramic jigsaw with all of the classic Disney characters (Disney Princesses, baloo, lion king, mickey, lady and the tramp, goofy, donald duck, pooh bear and friends, dalmatians, peter pan, dumbo and alice in wonderland. It's missing Minnie mouse though!

I've survived my third day! I haven't been anyway today, been doing my jigsaw and sat out in the garden for the first time. It's not very private as I have a side garden, and I sat there reading my book.

I'm going bowling with my mentor tomorrow at 10am, and I'll hopefully get to see my brother in the evening.

Hi OP Smile.

I've been thinking about you today - wondering how you were coping.

I'm really glad to hear that everything is going well so far. Especially that your brother is behaving himself Grin.

The driver was more than likely in the wrong. The emphasis is definitely on the driver to look out for pedestrians when reversing rather than the other way round. Try not to let his actions knock your confidence. You're doing great! Smile.

I'm sorry OP if I've missed it. Did you say you did a food blog? I'd really like to read it, if you can link it or post keywords to google. I've been meaning to learn how to blog, any tips?

My brother is picking me up at 6 so I will have some company tonight plus I can sit outside in my mum's lovely garden having a read of my book with a cuppa.

Chitofftheshovel I will message you the link Smile
