To think it's a bit pathetic to start a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition and the losing team should just accept it?

So now there's a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition!

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/election-results-dup-conservative-theresa-may-petition-deal-northern-ireland-a7783021.html

Why can people (generally left wing) not accept democratic decisions in this country? Labour LOST. Do people not get that? May might need to go into Coalition with the DUP to form a Government as she was 8 seats short of a majority, but she still got over FIFTY SEATS more than Corbyn. And Sturgeon slagging off Theresa May can pipe down too. SNP lost over 20 SEATS, (that went mostly to Conservative!!!) So she has no right to be up on the moral high ground!

Moreover, the whingeing left-wingers would not be moaning and griping if Labour had gone into a coalition with the DUP. It's a case of May can do no right in the eyes of some.

It was the same with the EU referendum. We're not happy with the democratic result of the people, so we will start a petition! And then it turned out 10's of 1000's of signatures were fake!

Why can people not just accept the result? Let's face it, if Corbyn had won, the people who aren't so keen on him would have sucked it up!

And also, let's not kid ourselves; Corbyn got many of his votes by promising the world on a plate, you name it, he was going to deliver it. Free this, free that, benefits for everyone, free uni fees, free school meals, bedroom tax gone, ESA assessments gone, benefit cap gone. Baby unicorns, and a million pounds for everyone!

No WAY would he have been able to deliver what he was promising, and many people know that.

Then after 5 years of undoing EVERYTHING the Conservatives have done, the economy would be screwed, Conservatives would have got back in, and they would have had to spend five years sorting it out. Leaving us in a worse position than we are in now. Do people not get that? Are they so blindsided by this ruggedly handsome urban hero promising the world, that they can't see what a monumental fuck up he would have made of the economy?

I think the young were entranced by him, as he became an urban hero, and was engaging and charming and likeable, whilst May was awkward and stiff. Anyone who said anything against Corbyn, and showed support for May was lambasted.

This ludicrous petition is not going to change anything. Conservatives won. They are going to go into a coalition with the DUP. May is not going to resign. Deal with it.

So 'we won - everyone else needs to stop complaining'

Are you really blind enough to believe that if Labour had 'won' then all Tory voters would have meekly accepted it and graciously supported JC?????

duxb · 11/06/2017 08:20

Corbyn and labour said they wouldn't do a deal and they didn't attempt to. What they have offered is a minority government.

Isn't it lovely when a politician shows that they can stick to their words.

Also, the (frankly horrendous) DUP have a long history with the Tories and as such, labour wouldn't have ever struck a deal with them.

If you cannot grasp left vs right wing politics or that sheer fact that the election result was a disaster for the Tories and a huge coup for labour then quite frankly, you don't understand politics enough to write such a gladly, aggressive post.

duxb · 11/06/2017 08:29

Also @Ravenblack

Wanna win next time? Start a petition to get rid of Corbyn. He's a liability, and is the reason Labour LOST.

Corbyn increased labours share of the vote more than any other politician in any other election since 1945.

That's not indicative of being a liability.

And PS - NOBODY won. Hence there being NO majority.

PinkPeppers · 11/06/2017 09:01

The Conservatives have won

Hmm bar the fact tyat they dint have a majority (which isnt winning esp when the aim was get a STRONG majority...), you do realise that actually there is only 2% difference between the Tories and Labour in the number of vote.

So in effect, there are about as many people who TM in power than the ones who JC...
That isnt winning.
But also certainly call for a politica; attitude that is about concession and négociation. Unless of coiurse you want to upset half of the population (or more if you count the Greens and the LD) and end up in a crisis position.

We have won, Labur should just accept it and accept the democratic process
Hmm i hope you are aware that being in a democracy is about being able to state yur opinion even if it is against the government. Otherwise you are in a totalitarian country like china....

MusterMark · 11/06/2017 09:12

May called an election in order to strengthen her position, and the result was her position has been weakened and she needs to rely on another party to get a majority. She will probably resign sooner rather than later.

Corbyn was vilified by the press and many of his own party, but has won seats and voter share. His position as leader is unassailable now.

No party "won" the election in terms of a majority, but it's clear which party leader "won" the election.

RandomChocolate8 · 11/06/2017 09:16

The hilarious thing is that the Corbynites cannot see that they caused this coalition

It takes some real upside down thinking to blame the existence on the coalition on the people who voted against both of the parties in it.

DameSquashalot · 11/06/2017 09:19

I wonder what else Nicola Sturgeon can force TM to do...

SmileEachDay · 11/06/2017 09:22

The hilarious thing is that the Corbynites cannot see that they caused this coalition

Nothing about this situation is hilarious.

May caused this coalition because her appalling judgement, shockingly bad campaign and lack of principle caused her to lose her sizeable lead.

May caused the coalition because she then had no choice but to cosy up with someone. The DUP were the only option, plus she has no judgement or principles.

Fab39ish · 11/06/2017 09:35

2.4% less the 6500 Labour voted which were not counted in the final result in a Conservative marginal. Labour took the seat from the Conservatives but the whole thing was extremely dodgy. A bit like this coalition of chaos really.

Ceto · 11/06/2017 09:36

It's all a bit academic at the moment given that the DUP are clear that they haven't actually made any deal with the Conservatives. Yes, it appears that is yet another lie from May. She really is desperate to save her own skin, isn't she?

Fab39ish · 11/06/2017 09:40

The Conservatives won't shut cup about Corbin being a liability because he is a liability for them. Labour was no opposition. He has made them a force to be reckoned with. They rattle on about him promising the moon on a stick but at least he bothered to cost it.

Fab39ish · 11/06/2017 09:41

Damn auto-correct.

makeourfuture · 11/06/2017 09:41

given that the DUP are clear that they haven't actually made any deal with the Conservatives

What exactly was said to Her Majesty?

ethelfleda · 11/06/2017 09:42

Yes absolutely OP - because we always knew we were voting for a Tory/DUP coalition right from the beginning (obvious sarcasm by the way)

Fab39ish · 11/06/2017 09:46

They have apparently agreed a "confidence and supply deal" according to my BBC messenger bot but haven't looked up what that means exactly.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/06/2017 09:47

Fab, they then said that they hadn't agreed a deal.

Boynamedsue · 11/06/2017 09:48

"I kind of agree with you OP - there definitely wouldn't be a petition if they were going to shore up Corbyn."

I can assure you there would be as I would start it! I would also be calling for his resignation.

Why is it so hard to understand that for most people this is nothing to do with left/right May/Corbyn. It's about the prime minister having to bow to the demands of the draconian DUP in order to ensure she stays in power and the potential that this partnership has to undo the NI peace process.

Remember the troubles? Good times eh.

Livelovebehappy · 11/06/2017 09:50

Let's be honest; Corbyn got more votes than he expected through the thousands of students who were offered free money. I don't know about anywhere else, but in my area there were rallying cries on Facebook and all over social media for students to vote. Students tend to be apathetic when it comes to voting, but they went to vote in their thousands at this GE. I think it was the student vote that nearly pushed him over the line.

ToastDemon · 11/06/2017 09:53

No, let's be honest, you'd like the student vote thing to be true as a way of letting your appaling leader with her shit, toxic campaign off the hook, so you resort to lies and oversimplification.

Alfieisnoisy · 11/06/2017 09:54

I think it's great young people went out to vote. For years we've nagged them to be more involved and this time they have been. Stop berating them because they didn't choose the Party you wanted.

It won't just have been "ooh look Free Education". My niece voted Labour because she has seen first hand the effects of education cuts and prior to that social service cuts. She is a teacher in her 20s who has seen the appalling way some of our most vulnerable in society are treated. She said she could not honestly, morally or willingly vote for the Party behind that.

She accepts that she has student loan repayments and is making them. It was the least of her issues...in fact it did not even figure on her list if reasons.

hula008 · 11/06/2017 09:57

The second EU Referendum petition was started by a Leave voter in response to the predictions that there would be a small margin Remain outcome

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 11/06/2017 09:57

Agree with toast and alfie

And hula of course

hackmum · 11/06/2017 09:58

I think the tuition fees pledge played quite a big part, actually. No-one likes being in debt, and we're always being told how bad it is that the government has such a big debt, and how terrible poor people are for getting into debt. And then we tell students and their parents that they're going to be saddled with an enormous debt but it doesn't really matter and it will all be fine. It's hardly surprising that they don't fall for it.

Spadequeen · 11/06/2017 10:01

People are so stupid these days, they don't have the self awareness to know that they are actually really fucking stupid.
