This is the best outcome by miles. No hard brexit. (The city now predicts soft Brexit or even no Brexit!!!) No more crazy ideas by either side. Compromise. Tories given a good slap in the face for this stupid election.

This is the first election day in a long time with a good result!

Will we have much choice on freedom of movement? I'm not so sure we're the ones with the power.

Lib Dems chose not to (they want to halt Brexit in fact by a second vote including a remain option and that too is widely known)

I knew that although it's not the reason I voted for them. It was a brave although possibly foolish stance. Labour needed to woo back its large number of staunchly pro leave supporters.

drspouse · 10/06/2017 13:47

I saw no point in voting Lib Dem - I would vote for them tactically or as a protest vote in a safe seat. But my particular alternatives were a party I disagree with on everything, or one I disagree with on Brexit but trust to do most of the rest right. It wasn't a referendum - it was a GE.

MiddleEnglandLives · 10/06/2017 13:50

Scapegoats have been chosen I see and have just quit. I wonder if it will be enough to save May.

I still say that the only legitimate and stable solution for that vote is a National Government why does no one in government listen to MEEEE

Timothy and Hill going is good news.

It's not just them that should be going

MiddleEnglandLives · 10/06/2017 14:11

We need someone in charge and fast though. Has anyone got any insights into Merkel's statement about the EU being ready to start negotiations? There's a lovely picture of her with a very nice smile (no teeth) on the BBC.

Which way is she trying to make us jump?

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 10/06/2017 14:41

Middle- I think she was just answering a question about whether the negations should be delayed. Merkel said she thought the UK were ready to start.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 10/06/2017 14:44

And I agree that it's not just Timothy and Hill who go. I heard the interview with the Chief Comunivator of TM who resigned a couple of years ago. Hill and Timothy may have been nasty bullies but TM just sat and let it happen- right in front her her. She's a bloody disgrace and should go herself.

7461Mary18 · 10/06/2017 15:36

The FT reported on May shouting down some of Hill's requests by the way during the campaign which were apparently not sensible suggestions of HIll.

I hope the Tories can unite behind May and I am sure in 10 days time we are ready to start the Brexit talks. May has already said that.

May has given herself until Sunday to announce any cabinet changes.

Ceto · 10/06/2017 16:30

The fact that TM was prepared for so long to sit back and watch unpleasant bullies in action on her behalf without doing anything about it speaks volumes about her.

birdsdestiny · 10/06/2017 16:41

The rumour is that she was told by the Tory party that she must sack her advisors immediately and work more inclusively with the party or they would put up a challenger for the leadership on Monday.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 10/06/2017 16:43

I agree Cato. Dispicable behaviour.

But it explains her plans for the Brexit negotions. "No deal is better than a bad deal". She's said that from day one and seemed surprised when people thought she was being confrontational. We need diplomatic behaviour not bullying. TM doesn't seem to understand that.

Our fantastic political system.

I posted that on the wrong thread, sorry! 😳

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/06/2017 20:09

I don't think it matters Titsalina . It is a fair comment.

SomethingOnce · 10/06/2017 20:29

I don't actually want to watch a knife attack going on. How is the rest of the country supposed to 'pull together' with this sort of example at the top?

Not the most sensitive choice of words there.

7461Mary18 · 11/06/2017 07:43

It's a good quote. As I said to my Corbynite son (I like to spread peace and light)..... we are all winners here.

makeourfuture · 11/06/2017 07:51

Transparency. Openness. Honesty.

None to be found in the Tory/DUP Coalition!

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 08:03

Must be gutting to you to have a corbynite son.

juneau · 11/06/2017 11:59

If this disaster of an election can kick Hard Brexit off the table once and for all, then I'm delighted!

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 12:09

Or even Brexit. Ridiculous mess of a concept.

juneau · 11/06/2017 12:17

I think we're stuck with Brexit, since Article 50 was triggered in March (why????? I never understood the rush to do this when months were going to be wasted with French election, British election, summer recess, etc). However, the hardness or softness of what we aim for is all up for grabs and TM clearly does not have a mandate to pursue Hard Brexit now. She's so bloody arrogant though I wouldn't put it past her to just plough on as before.
