This is the best outcome by miles. No hard brexit. (The city now predicts soft Brexit or even no Brexit!!!) No more crazy ideas by either side. Compromise. Tories given a good slap in the face for this stupid election.

This is the first election day in a long time with a good result!

Oh Tears, don't you see what a difference it makes in parliament to be part of a tiny opposition to a landslide government versus a huge opposition to a minority government? Don't you see the difference between the power and influence of the Tory government of today and the one we had before the GE? In the context of Tories vs. labour it's a thing to be celebrated, no doubt!

Obvs the DUB is a spanner in the works, but it's a spanner the Tories have put there.

Alfieisnoisy · 09/06/2017 14:10

Ahem....says it all.

They are still the nasty party when all is said and done. She has lost them a massive majority and people remain angry about what has been done to vulnerable people in the name of Tory ideology.

Ow to form a Government she has leapt into bed with "friends". That would be the right wing, anti choice in pregnancy, anti equal marriage and anti immigration ex terrorist party. The fucking irony of that

The Tories among you can claim it a victory all you want...fact is it was a disaster and Corbyn had the biggest Labour result since Attlee. Th tide is turning and people are not going to put up with being abused any longer.

She has destabilised her party and her country. She has done this.

^This. I agree

Cameron also destabilised the party and the country by calling the referendum.

They also destabilised the country by allowing a bunch of sharp suits to roll the dice and lose. THEN get away with it scot free making the poorest pay the price.

To a point that the measures were so draconian and cruel that even the most entitled and detached bunch of posh people in the world Lords rejected them because they were too harsh.

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 14:10

It's business as usual.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Londonlovely · 09/06/2017 14:12

What ShatnersWig said.

HS2whattodo · 09/06/2017 14:13

That youth vote will have put the shits up the Tory party. A lot of conservative voters are from the older generation and will be dying off in the next couple of decades. The youth have largely been ignored as they did not vote in numbers. If Corbyn keeps them interested then they could be the key to a change of government next time around. The power of social media is gathering pace and young people on the whole do not read the Mail/Express etc. As traditional media dies with the older generation, social media will take over and this will become the norm. It won't be long before voting can be done at the touch of a button.

LittleMissCrappy · 09/06/2017 14:14

Issue here is that she is still in charge, she has waltzed in to see the Queen and presto. That's it. There is Nothing, absolutely Nothing we can do about it.

She will soon be saying that she is leading a strong and stable government, that she has won by a huge majority, and will lead us to a hard Brexit. And cut schools' budgets, and close A&Es.

We have missed our opportunity. Game over.

Cuppaoftea · 09/06/2017 14:15

ShatnersWig And yet he's a long way off securing the number of seats needed to win a majority. Corbyn will never win a General Election for Labour.

Jng1 · 09/06/2017 14:16

"Corbyn got back up again by winning the majority vote twice in leadership race. May got knocked down by losing a majority vote. Do you see the difference?"

Yes, understand the difference thanks, Econ/Pol degree helped...

Corbyn has won a majority within the membership, but not in the PLP. At least TM currently (even if only temporarily) seems to have the support of the parliamentary party.
The knives will be out for Corbyn in the PLP before the end of the year - he's simply too divisive.

Topseyt · 09/06/2017 14:17

Business as usual!!! Bollocks

A Conservative/DUP Alliance has never happened before to my knowledge. Hardly a normal situation.

TearsOnTheGround · 09/06/2017 14:18

Labour didn't win the election and aren't in power (thank god) so no, they have nothing to celebrate whether they have 200 seats 260 seats, they still didn't win the election so can't put forward their fairy tale ideas!

Theworldisfullofidiots · 09/06/2017 14:18

Oh god the DUP.....

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 14:19

She will soon be saying that she is leading a strong and stable government, that she has won by a huge majority, and will lead us to a hard Brexit. And cut schools' budgets, and close A&Es.

Anything she wants to get through parliament has to be voted for by a majority, hence the ruling party usually needing a good healthy one to implement any of their actual plans as there will always be the odd rebel in their own party.

The Tories are a minority government now. Yes, the DUP will likely support them in votes, but it wouldn't take a lot for them to fail to get something through - just the odd rebel. So anything more extreme than proper mainstream ideas aint gonna fly my friends! Hard Brexit? Not if the remainer Tories don't want it.

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 14:20

Tears you're really very determined to tell Labour voters what constitutes a win, despite them telling you explicitly why this is a win. But okay, we'll be celebrating regardless.

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 14:21

260 seats is way more powerful than 200 parliamentary seats; that's how our representative democracy works!!

LittleMissCrappy · 09/06/2017 14:22

You really think that now that she is back in power, schools' budgets are going to be revised because the Conservatives are in a minority government? Really? I am waiting to see that happen.

You think that because she is leading a minority government all of a sudden the NHS will get more money? Really?

aaeg22 · 09/06/2017 14:22

Just a small point for those celebrating in relation to stopping Brexit and may not have read it , but The Labour manifesto states that Brexit will happen and that Freedom of Movement will end when we leave the EU.

So, with the EU stance on FoM and unless Labour are planning on breaking their manifesto commitment we will end up with a hard Brexit no matter which party is in Government as FoM is a crucial part of the Free market.

So 89.1 % of the electorate yesterday voted for a 'Hard' Brexit based on the various manifestos. Anyone who didn't want Brexit should have voted Lib Dem or SNP which was 7% of the electorate in total.

Pretty conclusive support for Brexit no matter which Political persuasion you support

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 14:23

Nope I think she may last a few weeks or months.

There is NO mandate for anything. Everything will be fought over

TearsOnTheGround · 09/06/2017 14:23

I'll look forward to corbyn implementing his manifesto then...

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 14:23

The budget will be voted on, and yes, I probably won't like it all that much. But the difference between this Tory government and the one we would have had had they achieved a massive majority will be STARK. So... win!!

Topseyt · 09/06/2017 14:24

I also don't remember such an unnecessary snap General Election, such a massive gamble which didn't pay off.

Kind of glad she did call it though. The electorate had the chance to put a shot across her bows, and has done it very well.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 14:25

Tears I don't think anyone thinks Corbyn is currently in power

I'd worry more about the DUP and whatbis actually happening

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 14:25

Why would he do that Tears, he's not PM?!

I'm just more than pleased for the reprieve from what I found a terrifying Tory plan. Ain't no-one gonna tell me that isn't a bloody good thing, and it's been achieved by Labour gains. Go us.

Jng1 · 09/06/2017 14:26

So funny to see Corbyn and the other losers still blabbing on about 'their potential progressive alliance' while TM was already with the Queen sealing the deal:

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jun/09/labour-government-progressives-theresa-may-coalition-of-chaos-left-caroline-lucas

And JC with his 'we're ready to serve' bullshit Confused - Did nobody tell him he came second?

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 14:26

Jng you do know what a minority government is don't you?
