This is the best outcome by miles. No hard brexit. (The city now predicts soft Brexit or even no Brexit!!!) No more crazy ideas by either side. Compromise. Tories given a good slap in the face for this stupid election.

This is the first election day in a long time with a good result!

I'm glad to have spread this message Moussemoose! Grin

I hope your son's A Levels are going excellently as well!

Cuppaoftea · 09/06/2017 13:24

MrsLupo No I've literally been up all night watching results, on my 20th cuppaBrew

Brexit was voted for a year ago, negotiations ready to start, we have a new government and for the stability of the country now isn't the time for a leadership challenge. Time to crack on with it.

The80sweregreat · 09/06/2017 13:25

Her speech was awful.
Breathtaking arrogence.

time4chocolate · 09/06/2017 13:27

I haven't heard the speech yet so can't comment on the content but am assuming she is staying on so, I do think credit where it's due, at least she is not doing a moonlight flit (however much people would like her to) unlike someone we could mention (DC) who actually did more of a brazen broad daylight flit. She is owning her shit.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 09/06/2017 13:28

I am quite happily posting my post on all relevant threads...

I am getting a bit cheesed off with some of the criticism of the youth vote

We have known for years that they tend to vote left

We have been nagging at them for years to vote

Brexit was a big issue for youth as they tended to want remain

So now they vote...after being nagged at for years

They vote left as we have know for years they tend to do

And now we are pissed off.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 09/06/2017 13:29

She didn't really own it to be fair, she didn't mention the awful loss of seats, she glossed over it and spoke about how she' continue Brexit and her terrorism management plans and how she's always been right with the DUP.
She's just acting like all is rosy. She's deluded.

annielouise · 09/06/2017 13:32

Completely deluded and still out of touch. Like she doesn't know how this happened.

MrsLupo · 09/06/2017 13:33

Brexit was voted for a year ago, negotiations ready to start, we have a new government and for the stability of the country now isn't the time for a leadership challenge.

You mean for the stability of the Conservative party. Funny how often Tories confuse those two. But Theresa May is now the last person on earth who can negotiate Brexit effectively. That's why the left-wingers and remainers on the thread are happy. We will be back at the polls long before Brexit is done and dusted.

Alfieisnoisy · 09/06/2017 13:34

I don't want TM to go tbh. I want her to remain and form a minority Govt.
Lots of people are angry and have sent a clear message that while they don't dislike her they do dislike the inequalit8es for the lowest paid and the disabled.

Some of you posting silly comments about 90% tax are scaremongering. Meanwhile the reality of the cuts to people's lives is actually happening or has already happened.

Hard to see how TM will be able to continue down that line now. The more hard right and judgemental Tories 2ill be stopped in their tracks from implementing further cuts. This will mean a fairer and kinder Britain for eeveryone.

littlehandcuffs · 09/06/2017 13:35

We have handed real power to the DUP, no one should be celebrating.

HS2whattodo · 09/06/2017 13:35

She is a dead woman walking, she knows it, her party knows it, everyone knows it. She will be remembered as the PM would backed herself in a one horse race and lost.

Her speech was just ludicrous. She is probably in shock

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 13:37

I'm sure they are rebooting her networks. Reminds me a bit of a Dr Who episode

frogsgoladidahdidah · 09/06/2017 13:37

I do not think she is the person for Brexit. I really want to slap her with a wet fish. (Am tired, also stayed up all night!)

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 13:37

I think I'd be happy for TM to stay... I think... And at least carry that Brexit yolk around her neck until its bitter end; no-one else wants it. But perhaps that's just the all-nighter talking.

Cuppaoftea · 09/06/2017 13:41

She's not arrogant or deluded. I'm sure it's been a bloody difficult night for her personally.

But she's doing what she needs to do for the stability of the country, front it out. And to be fair now the final count is in the Conservatives have come very close to a majority on their own. Labour did well but nowhere near well enough to govern.

Topseyt · 09/06/2017 13:42

Delighted with the result. Delighted that the arrogant TM ha been given a bloody nose.

Voted Labour for the first time ever yesterday. Corbyn ran a far superior campaign to May. He did have some tricky moments, but generally handled them much better.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 09/06/2017 13:42

Lots of people are angry and have sent a clear message that while they don't dislike her they do dislike the inequalites for the lowest paid and the disabled.

I dislike the inequalities AND I dislike most things she has ever done.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 13:43

Front it.....hhmmm that's really not going to work is it

MorrisZapp · 09/06/2017 13:45

Yes, however appallingly she has played this, resigning is too easy. Cameron strolled away whistling from the brexit carnage he caused, May needs to face the consequences of her actions and stand by what she's done.

birdsdestiny · 09/06/2017 13:45

I just can't be delighted by anything that involves the DUP.

Alfieisnoisy · 09/06/2017 13:46

Got to also be honest and say that I have wondered at times if her heart was even in it. She avoided much of the campaign stuff which other leaders did and sent other people.

I know she is an insulin dependant diabetic as she has spoken quite openly about this. It doesn't mean she cannot be PM, however I do wonder if being PM has taken its toll on her diabetes. All the issues with less sleep, probably irregular meals and long work hours.

In a way I hope she goes and takes a break...has a holiday tbh and a good rest before rejoining the fray.

Alfieisnoisy · 09/06/2017 13:47

Me neither Birds, it was my biggest fear with a hung parliament.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 13:47

A holiday?

7461Mary18 · 09/06/2017 13:47

Good speech. Go May.

" I have just been to see Her Majesty the Queen and I will now form a government, a government that can provide certainty and lead Britain forward at at this critical time for our country. This government will guide the country through the crucial Brexit talks that begin in just 10 days, and deliver on the will of the British people by taking the UK out of the European Union .

It will work to keep our nation safe and secure by delivering the change I set out following the appalling attacks in Manchester and London, cracking down on the ideology of islamist extremism and all those who support it. And giving the police and the authorities the powers they need to keep our country safe.

The government I lead will put fairness and opportunity at the heart of everything we do, so that we will fulfil the promise of Brexit together, and over the next 5 years build a country in which no one and no community is left behind, a country in which prosperity and opportunity are shared right across this united kingdom.

What the country needs more than ever is certainty. And having secured the largest number of votes and the greatest number of seats in the general election it is clear that only the Conservative and Unionist party has the legitimacy and ability to provide that certainty by commanding a majority in the House of Commons. As we do, we will continue to work with our friends and allies in the Democratic Unionist party in particular. Our two parties have enjoyed a strong relationship over many years and this gives me the confidence to believe that we will be able to work together in the interests of the whole united kingdom.

This will allow us to come together as a country. and channel our energies towards a successful Brexit deal that works for everyone in this country, securing a new partnership with the EU, which guarantees our long term prosperity. That's what people voted for last June. That's what we will deliver. Now let's get to work."
