To wonder how right-wingers who have complained about left-wing comments feel about today's Sun front page?

The complaining about the left-wing 'haters', some of whom may have gone a bit too far, but many of whom are just people who are desperately worried about what is going to happen to this country, particularly to the vulnerable and the services they rely on, has been prolific during this campaign. Some people have even claimed they were going to vote their Labour but then decided to vote Tory after seeing an 'offensive' post online. Clearly bollocks of course, but still, people have clearly been narked on being called out on their decisions and the impact they have on others.

Then today we wake up to the travesty that is the Sun front cover. It's an absolute disgrace and actually took my breath away when I saw it. Why do we have to put up with the filthy press we have in this country? It's utterly sickening to think that these cynical people are persuading their readers to vote for people who will implement policies that will make their lives demonstrably worse.

Foul.

I haven't seen it, I'm guessing from your post it's encouraging people to vote Conservative? We do have a free press, there will be vitriolic anti-Conservative wrong elsewhere to balance it.

SquidgeyMidgey · 08/06/2017 15:15

Writing, not wrong, sorry.

PizzaPower · 08/06/2017 15:39

Just had a look, nothing wrong, and certainly no worse than the Mirrors front page on TM.

SexTrainGlue · 08/06/2017 15:41

Probably about the same number of lefties who complained when The Sun championed Labour.

SootSprite · 08/06/2017 16:05

Why are left-wingers excused as just getting carried away due to righteous concern whereas right-wingers are demonised as kitten-kicking nazis?

What The Sun did was no worse than what The Mirror did, but I guess that's excusable too eh?

Bollocks.

theduchessstill · 08/06/2017 16:14

The Mirror used a silly and unflattering picture and is not exactly journalism at its finest, yes. But she is a liar, and there is evidence of that. Dishonest and a n inveterate back-tracker and U-turner . The Sun's front page is just a list of scare-mongering opinions and downright lies.

Bollocks indeed.

I don't understand this view. If you were going to vote for a party because you believed in their values and thought they would run the country, and then found out that many of their supporters actually think people who vote for other parties are some kind of sub-humans, why wouldn't that change your mind on how to vote?

If the supporters started racially people or throwing misogynist insults, that would change your view of the party. It's just the same. Or is it wrong to make insulting comments on the basis or race or sex, but fine on the basis of voting?

I think what is happening when this occurs is that people are able to start seeing past the inclusive, caring veneer to what really lies behind. So although it is unpleasant, I suppose in the end it is perhaps better for people to see what is really going on and make their voting choice accordingly.

Certainly the name calling and denigration of leave voters from many on the left after the referendum opened my eyes to what is really going on in politics and I have never been able to look at the left in the same way since.

On the Sun, if people don't want to buy a newspaper, they don't have to. Free country.

MoominFlaps · 08/06/2017 16:16

By that logic no one should have voted for Brexit as some Brexit supporters were racist morons.

ExplodedCloud · 08/06/2017 16:18

It's not really a surprise though is it? On any level.

BabsGanoush · 08/06/2017 16:22

I thought with it being voting day these posts would have disappeared.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 08/06/2017 16:27

There was an absolute deluge this morning, and I guess there'
L be an evening harangue as well.

Pity, I had been hoping for a brief respite before all the post-Mortimer threads.

Though I am enjoying the foodie threads.

DeleteOrDecay · 08/06/2017 16:43

The Sun front page made me roll my eyes at the lengths they'd go to try and swing votes. I don't understand how anyone can read or take The Sun seriously based on their previous history, let alone today's front page. They are a joke of a newspaper, like many other news outlets in the uk sadly.

The mirror front page wasn't great either but let's face it, she IS a liar. Nothing wrong with pointing that out.

Both made me pretty Hmm to be honest. Politics brings out the worst in people. It's all so bloody childish and embarrassing to witness.

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 16:53

I'm sure some Remain supporters are racist morons too.

And I heard just as much nasty bigotry from the remain side - aimed at different people, but just as vitriolic and unpleasant.

But in any case leave and remain weren't parties and people voted each way for many different reasons. You didn't need to agree politically with other people to vote the same way (ie people on left and right voted leave).

A general election is different and people will only vote for a party which they believe represents and respects people like them.

MoominFlaps · 08/06/2017 17:15

I voted based on the policies I thought were best, personally.

We are high earners so technically I'm sure the Tories do represent and respect us. Wouldn't vote for them in a million years because I think their policies are shite.

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 17:44

Personally I would say having policies I agree with is part of whether a party represents me.

NeoNeoClassical · 08/06/2017 18:03

"sickening" Hmm

Less of the melodramatic OP

MissionItsPossible · 08/06/2017 18:07

I so agree with this. Watching the House of Commons debates at times is like little kids squabbling and I wish they'd get rid of these stupid TV debates. All that happens is they throw insults at each other instead of actually debating their own policies, though I'm sure deflecting issues is easier and safer Than trying to defend your own parties issues which is what it should be about. For the sake of the country can we please just have a permanent hung parliament

lubeybooby · 08/06/2017 18:10

lefty here. it's awful but the jihadi jez one should see the disgusting sun shut down for inciting hatred

ChinaRose · 08/06/2017 18:10

Haven't read the Sun since 1999... who actually does? All I see on fb today is people sharing newspaper headlines. It's 2017 FFS

TheNaze73 · 08/06/2017 18:10

Your reaction is a bit OTT

Binkybix · 08/06/2017 18:11

I agree it was a shoddy and awful front page, but your bias shows so clearly in your post.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 08/06/2017 18:11

the issue is that the Sun is not a political party nor professes to represent one (remember it supported blair) ....it is a propaganda tool for a billionaire meglamanic

That is what sickens me. That rich non UK barons spout bile to the masses to sway opinion for their own monetary gain. It is sickening Neo

shinyredbus · 08/06/2017 18:12

Yes yes yes - labour is great and the tories are demons.Confused

BoneyBackJefferson · 08/06/2017 18:13

MoominFlaps

And the remain said are virtuous angels. What rubbish.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 08/06/2017 18:14

No the Sun is a propaganda shit box. it's not about the parties
