To wonder how right-wingers who have complained about left-wing comments feel about today's Sun front page?

The complaining about the left-wing 'haters', some of whom may have gone a bit too far, but many of whom are just people who are desperately worried about what is going to happen to this country, particularly to the vulnerable and the services they rely on, has been prolific during this campaign. Some people have even claimed they were going to vote their Labour but then decided to vote Tory after seeing an 'offensive' post online. Clearly bollocks of course, but still, people have clearly been narked on being called out on their decisions and the impact they have on others.

Then today we wake up to the travesty that is the Sun front cover. It's an absolute disgrace and actually took my breath away when I saw it. Why do we have to put up with the filthy press we have in this country? It's utterly sickening to think that these cynical people are persuading their readers to vote for people who will implement policies that will make their lives demonstrably worse.

Foul.

Did it casually print a cartoon of Corbyn being sodomized by Donald Trump?

Call us back when that happens and we'll talk about the shoe being on the other foot.

RoseTico · 08/06/2017 18:20

Some people have even claimed they were going to vote their Labour but then decided to vote Tory after seeing an 'offensive' post online.

I think that's rubbish, it's just gaslighting of the 'opposition - telling them that if they'd shut up, maybe they would have got your vote. They were always going to vote Tory. Or they are monumentally stupid people whose opinions change as often as the direction of the wind.

Sittinonthefloor · 08/06/2017 18:25

I thought it was rather funny, the image of his head and loony lefty eyes peeping out will stay with me. And corbin is what autocorrect does for me anyway. The bullet points were succinct and to the point, I guess labour supporters won't have liked them.

Sickened by reports of people burning papers though.

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 18:34

So how far do you think the nastiness needs to go before it starts turning people away from voting Labour, Rose?

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 18:35

And Rose do you not believe in "floating voters" who just can't make their mind up? I can assure you they exist.

whistlerx · 08/06/2017 18:41

The press is predominantly right wing. Run by the very rich, who want to become even richer. It has a terrible effect on this country. Don't know what the answer is.

RoseTico · 08/06/2017 18:48

I do, though I don't have a great deal of respect for them. Most people should at least be able to identify whether they are left or right leaning.

Someone who gets wound up by a nasty Tory meme/joke is a Tory supporter. I could see the most offensive Theresa May joke online, and perhaps feel disgusted by it, but it wouldn't change my core beliefs and my values to the extent that I would vote for them instead of Labour.

Oysterbabe · 08/06/2017 18:53

What does it say?

PumpkinPiloter · 08/06/2017 19:16

I have read probably too many political threads in the last few days.

Whilst I have seen many many tory voters complain about their treatment I have seen very little in the way of abuse or anything I would consider to be out of line.

I have however seen countless sarcastic comments about how demonised they feel, kicking kittens etc. I have also seen countless comments about JC and unicorns, magic money trees etc etc

Tory voter are far from being a minority that is discriminated against.

I really do not understand where this persecution complex comes from. Maybe its guilt.

PumpkinPiloter · 08/06/2017 19:20

"Yes yes yes - labour is great and the tories are demons"

Exactly the sort of post I am talking about. Why not join the debate tell us how you feel rather than taking up space saying nothing?

Allthebestnamesareused · 08/06/2017 19:22

www.theguardian.com/media/2017/jun/08/press-gang-up-on-jeremy-corbyn-in-election-day-coverage

They are all as bad as each other.

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 19:25

I don't think it matters whether you have respect for floating voters or not. We each get one vote and they all have the same value.

As to people should be able to identify whether they are left and right, a lot of political writing recently has been about the notion that left/right politics are becoming less and less meaningful and that other metrics are more important such as communitarian versus globalist. I also think a lot of people's politics are shifting. On Twitter I see a lot of escaped-lefties.

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 19:28

There is a current thread where a poster says that Tory voters hate children and disabled people. Oh it must be built that made me write that Hmm

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 19:29

guilt obvs

Booph · 08/06/2017 19:34

I was more alarmed by this article they included. As much as it is clearly a joke, it's still pretty awful.

To wonder how right-wingers who have complained about left-wing comments feel about today's Sun front page?
TheLambShankRedemption · 08/06/2017 19:51

Blimey I'd sooner admit to reading the Daily Mail than the Sun.

Every single day that rag is in print is one day too many (well both of them actually). YABU to give a toss what the Sun says.

PumpkinPiloter · 08/06/2017 19:51

"There is a current thread where a poster says that Tory voters hate children and disabled people. Oh it must be built that made me write that hmm"

Well I have read many many threads and never come across a post like that one which is clearly either tongue in cheek or just silly.

Does one comment like that make all people on the left abusive?

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 19:58

It was not light hearted. The poster posted several on the same theme and clearly meant what she said. No, it doesn't make all people on the left abusive. But it isn't one comment. There have been entire threads on similar themes.

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 20:00

And the fact that you talk about "guilt" suggests that you think Tory voters have something to be ashamed of. The thing is, I couldn't really give a flying rats crochet what you think of me. I am just trying to

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 20:02

oops ... point out that it may be a slightly counterproductive tactic. But that doesn't really bother me as I want a Tory government.

Bodicea · 08/06/2017 20:25

The sun and mirror front pages are just as bad as each other. So to call out tories for right wing tabloid rubbish when the leftwing tabloid rubbish is just as vile is a bit strange.

PumpkinPiloter · 08/06/2017 22:00

Alluding to guilt was a flippant remark I new you would latch onto. There are no threads full of baying lefties looking for a tory to abuse. I think you are being paranoid dear.

PumpkinPiloter · 08/06/2017 22:05

Do you not see any problem with almost all the print media with a few exceptions being predominantly right wing and having a big impact on elections?

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 22:09

The threads and posts are there is you want to read them. It's no skin off my nose if you don't.
