Can any Tory voters justify cuts to disability benefits?

Or are any Tory voters actually disabled and in receipt of pip?
Just interested to find out.

OP posts:

If you have assessed claims previously yourself then you would know that PIP is not an out of work benefit so why did you write this....................

" I see PIP from both sides both my sons are disabled my eldest mental health is very poor and I understand the fight to get the benefit but I can understand why they have to to do something. A lot of people are genuine and a lot automatically keep their benefit but others could work"

Full marks for effort but better luck next time. If you are going to come on here and be disabilist and make up shit you would do well to check your facts first.

HelenaDove · 07/06/2017 23:49

Incidentally i think deblets post should be left to stand as it is and not reported to show how far the prejudice and demonisation of disabled people has gone.

Incidentally deblet DH has just had his assessment for DLA to PIP and he is on STATE PENSION.

dontcallmelen · 07/06/2017 23:54

Deblet I really wish you had read my pp, I can assure you my dd is not taking the piss, every word I have written is true it is appalling what happened at my dd assessment, the assessor was hostile & did not record a true or accurate record of the meeting.
My dd was in visible pain with swollen feet & hands, yet scored nil points in all categories, despite previously being awarded high rate mobility & care, her condition has no cure she is lucky as it's not affecting her organs at the moment, but it attacks every joint in her body leaving her barely able to function, but she drags herself to work for twelve hours a week & dla helped her pay for taxis, when she can't get public transport, helped towards paying extra heating costs to keep her joints warm/hot baths.
That money has stopped, until she appeals & hopefully her benefit is reinstated.

dontcallmelen · 07/06/2017 23:56

Helena, it's so fucking depressing some people's attitudes I despair sometimes😥

HelenaDove · 08/06/2017 00:00

Melon someone who claims to be a former assessor but who does not know that DLA and PIP are not out of work benefits is quite obviously lying.

Which makes me wonder about whether the rest of your post is true tbh.

HelenaDove · 08/06/2017 00:01

Melen i hope your DD gets her rightful entitlement soon Thanks

DJBaggySmalls · 08/06/2017 00:07

People are dying every day because of these cuts. They are in breach of the Human Rights Act. But you ask for elective euthanasia to be made legal and they get really nasty about it.

HelenaDove · 08/06/2017 00:09

Sorry Melon. Thanks

This..

was meant for deblet.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/06/2017 00:13

There are more holes in Deblet's post than a swiss cheese. You can't work in a building where the medicals are done, and be a government employee. The assessments are not done by civil servants. They're outsourced. That's just the starting point...

LightDrizzle · 08/06/2017 00:20

Don't s daughter should have received PIP, as she did DLA, I really hope she wins on appeal, but are you suggesting that under a Labour government, assessors will never again make the wrong judgement? That it never happened with DLA under various governments? Or that self-declaration alone should be enough to secure huge payments from the finite DWP pot in perpetuity in order to spare families like mine the stress of negotiating forms?
Sadly, my daughter is so disabled she cannot live independently, so in the event of my death she would live in a specialist care home for people with severe disabilities and be entirely dependent on the state. There are two or three in my city. Fortunately the one closest to us is excellent, they are fully integrated into our local community and are very progressive.
In my city, largely publically funded NGOs and charities, are routinely put in touch with people with disabilities and offer free support negotiating forms and access to available resources. KIDS supported us through my daughter's transition to adult educational services for example, meeting us at home to assess her wants and needs and then attending her ECHP and transition meetings to advocate.
I'm sure things are actually harder for people with less severe of obvious disabilities that are nonetheless extremely debilitating, there is clearly work to be done making access to support more equitable but I'm sure that difference in ease of access has always been there.
Things aren't all rosy in my neck of the woods, therapeutic services are woefully stretched, but I don't believe Labour can deliver on its spending promises and I believe the damage that will result to the economy will soon lead to even less resources to allocate to those who need them.
All but the largest multinational businesses with complex offshore arrangents are already highly taxed, I don't want them taxed to the point they are uncompetitive with global competitors with lower costs, resulting in job losses. We have a progressive personal tax system so high earners (I'm not one) do already pay far more tax than those on lower incomes, again when we had super-high income tax in the 70s spending slumped, helping to contribute to a stagnant economy and tax revenues did not rise as had been anticipated because wages stagnated or even fell as there was negligible reward in gaining pay rises above a certain threshold. Raising revenue and growing GDP is a complex balancing act that I think a Corbyn government will totally bomb at. That would leave a legacy of even less money to allocate to those who need the support.

Good point Dawndonna. Honestly the quality of those types of posts really has taken a nosedive of late

lastcheesestraw · 08/06/2017 00:21

An assessor lying in a report is not an innocent mistake - it is a calculated action. In repsonse to targets set or personal cruelty? Who knows.

I wish everyone could see that the Tory party is cold heartedly using the terrorist incidents to justify scrapping even more of our Human Rights.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/06/2017 00:29

lightdrizzle Appeals were not running at 85% under previous governments.

SerfTerf · 08/06/2017 00:33

You know it's a niche fetish, don't you, this delusion by people on the web that they're benefits assessors? They get very excited by decision makers guides. VERY excited. So much that they can't focus to actually read the things Grin

lastcheesestraw · 08/06/2017 00:40

But on the other hand, with the horror stories we have all heard of, perhaps these people really were assessors - maybe it explains the incompetent, biased, dishonest, ignorant reports we know get produced all too often.

HelenaDove · 08/06/2017 01:09

Serf Grin

bp300 · 08/06/2017 01:17

I think there is massive amounts of money wasted by the government and cuts could be made to nearly all areas including disability without having much of a negative impact. For example under the Motability scheme the car is replaced after 3 years but some cars now have warranties of up to 7 years so there is no reason why they can't keep the car longer and it would save the taxpayers some money.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/06/2017 02:21

Since 2010 85% of welfare cuts have fallen on women. 79 billion to women as opposed to 13 billion to men. 34 refuges have closed and on average 2/3rd of women are now turned away. 4 million children are now in poverty. 250, 000 from the tampon tax was given to anti abortion charities whilst there are girls unable to attend school because they can't afford sanitary protection. Tax credits have been capped at two children and survivors of rape will have to prove rape to claim for a third. This is the impact of Tory benefit cuts an it's women bearing the brunt. We're a parenting site and we quibble about a benefits bill whilst we have the lowest corporation tax in the Europe. Whilst Amazon and Starbucks are paying sweet f.a. There are women here voting to put rape survivors out on the streets and punish their children. Not willingly doing so, but unthinkingly doing so. This is the reality of welfare cuts, not the odd person too lazy to work, ffs.

HelenaDove · 08/06/2017 02:39

Well said Dawn Thanks

Carolinesbeanies · 08/06/2017 02:56

Source Dawn?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 08/06/2017 03:32

LightDrizzle Can you explain to me how an assessor and then the subsequent 'decision maker' is more qualified than my GP, Psychiatrist, Consultant, CPN, support worker about my current health?

YokoReturns · 08/06/2017 03:32

Why do Tories infantilise Labour voters on these threads?

I've seen at least two posters talk about Labour encouraging people to 'eat sweets before tea' and 'hand out money like sweets'.

There's clearly an assumption amongst Tories here that they're the grown-ups in this conversation, that Labour voters are idealistic children.

Disclaimer: not a Labour voter this time around.

sadmommyhere · 08/06/2017 05:45

If you vote Tory, I hope you never become mentally ill or disabled. You will be utterly screwed like I have been!
Not just by pip or benefits but by lack of NHS support and the cuts there too.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 08/06/2017 06:06

Why do Tories infantilise Labour voters on these threads?

Why do Labour voters insult those not voting Labour or asume if you aren't voting Labour you are a Tory?

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 08/06/2017 06:06

Feeling sad and disheartened today.

I and others opened up last night about our real-life struggles under the Tories, yet MN is just full of post saying "I'm sick of the guilt posts, in fact they will make me vote Tory Grin".

Empathy is dead. I'm sure we will have another 5 years of Tory rule and cuts. Glad people think its an amusing game.
