Diane Abbott replaced: Ill health?

PizzaPower · 07/06/2017 09:36

So she's gone, is it really ill health, or do they think she is a massive liability and a vote looser?

OP posts:
youarenotkiddingme · 07/06/2017 17:33

Yes she clearly isn't of the best health ATM.

Some have questioned her drinking to excess but diabetes blood sugar levels being unstable have also been mistaken for this before.
It's one of the things your taught when presented with a patient who appears intoxicated.

I wish her well. She's been good before and hopefully can be good again.

squoosh · 07/06/2017 17:37

Well, he doesn't drink anymore, does he.

Most cuntish comment of the day. And there have been plenty.

SerfTerf · 07/06/2017 17:41

Well, he doesn't drink anymore, does he.

Bloody hell make. Bit (miles) below the belt.

endofthelinefinally · 07/06/2017 17:43

So disrespectful about poor Charles Kennedy.
He was a good man who became very ill. Sad

Charmageddon · 07/06/2017 18:03

It is museumum.

She's achieved a huge amount over her life & career.

Charmageddon · 07/06/2017 18:04

Pressed post too soon...

The abuse she gets is horrendous, absolutely horrendous, but yet she ploughs on regardless.

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 18:11

may that's horrible you have excelled yourself.

Alcoholism is a far more dangerous disease than type 2 diabetes and much harder to treat. Nasty nasty comment.

None of us know what was wrong with Dianne, or if she dropped a massive bollock by not being across her brief and it's a cover up.

Pointless discussing it but I hope she's ok snd fades off the radar as she's unpleasant and despite posters protests a racist.

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 18:12

Charles Kennedy was a very good man with a witty and self deprivating humour. The country is poorer without him.

HornyTortoise · 07/06/2017 18:16

IMO, 'replaced due to ill health' is a nicer way of saying shes been sacked. I don't think she will be back, as home secretary anyway.

I do think she may be ill though. And if she is, I hope her a full and fast recovery.

But lets be honest, everyone knows she is useless. She was a bizzare choice for front bench. She shouldn't even be a regular MP tbh, such is the incompetence...

HornyTortoise · 07/06/2017 18:21

museumum

Wow, I genuinely did not know she had achieved that much. I have only started properly following pol.itics in the past few years and always saw her as utterly woeful but that is indeed a great track record.

Whats quite interesting today is, many who have been consistently slagging Corbyn off because of Abbott being shadow home secretary, calling him/her a joke, saying they might have a bit more faith in him if he got rid of her, saying how could anyone vote Labour when they have Abbott in such a position...and so on...are today saying he is spineless and has made a huge mistake.

The guy cannot win. Really.

Tanith · 07/06/2017 18:38

"As an aside, Diane was referred to as working class up thread. She really isn't, she attended the same school in the same class as Portillo, so acceptance into Cambridge was not exactly from a sink school"

Her father was a welder and her mother was a nurse. She attended an all girls school.

Acceptance into Cambridge is a phenomenal achievement: I really can't imagine why you are trying to belittle it.

nina2b · 07/06/2017 18:44

Thought she attended the same school as Michael Portillo...?

museumum · 07/06/2017 19:08

Michael Portillo went to Harrow County Grammar School for Girls??

This might help answer some questions.

museumum · 07/06/2017 19:09

Ah - Portillo went to the boys school. But both are grammar schools, not private.

VeraGrant · 07/06/2017 19:41

It's really despicable to say TM looks ill. That was a blatantly misogynistic accusation repeatedly made against Hillary Clinton too, and it's shocking that posters on here are prepared to smear TM in the same way.

As for DA and racism, I'm confused. Isn't it more racist (and highly patronising) to infantilise black people and say they are always above criticism? No matter how poorly they perform in a role? To shriek 'racism' in this way surely dilutes and degrades real racism.

DA may be ill, and I'm sorry if she is, but if so, HOW was she allowed to keep giving interviews? How was that fair on her or, much more importantly, the electorate? What does it say about JC's judgment? She wasn't working on a till in Sainsbury's, she was angling to become Home Secretary, one of the 3 most powerful offices of State!

After 3 terrorist attacks in quick succession it is madness to put anyone not firing on every possible cylinder in such a critical position. It actually beggars belief that she only stepped down at the 11th hour.

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:43

Today 19:08 museumum

Michael Portillo went to Harrow County Grammar School for Girls??

Obviously not. Just making a point about a previous nugget.

lubeybooby · 07/06/2017 19:44

ffs, it's perfectly clear the woman is genuinely ill and has been for some time

educate yourself about her cookingonabootstrap.com/2017/06/07/we-need-to-talk-about-diane-abbott-now-explicit-content/

Charmageddon · 07/06/2017 20:13

lubeybooby, that link has been posted twice in the last 20 or so posts btw.

And according to Diane Abbott's friends, she didn't even know herself that she was 'standing down due to illness'.

Someone else (JC? SM?) made the decision for her.

VeraGrant · 07/06/2017 20:15

If true, lubey, why did she stay in post during the election? We can't have someone remain in a role as critical as that either a) because of their past achievements and/ or b) because we feel sorry for them. That's why the Jack Monroe article is so disingenuous. DA can have moved mountains in the past, and huge credit to her for that. But the issue of our national security has rarely been as important as it is now, and any prospective Home Secretary has to be judged on what their performance is like now. Surely to god??

smellylittleorange · 07/06/2017 20:29

I don't wish to speculate if she is really ill or not - non story for me
Why is noone bothered about the constant vitriol she has been subjected to in this day and age - I think I would be ill f I had to put up with that mysoginist crap day in day out. Illness takes many forms you know...

LeMontane · 08/06/2017 09:01

Vera
It's really despicable to say TM looks ill. That was a blatantly misogynistic accusation repeatedly made against Hillary Clinton too, and it's shocking that posters on here are prepared to smear TM in the same way.

Interesting you mention only TM and HC as suffering from "blantantly" from misogyny but not DA and go on further to claim acknowledging racism would infantilise DA?
Why not?

It is because DA is black and black woman and as has been the case on MN, black women are never seen as women
