Diane Abbott replaced: Ill health?

PizzaPower · 07/06/2017 09:36

So she's gone, is it really ill health, or do they think she is a massive liability and a vote looser?

OP posts:
SerfTerf · 07/06/2017 11:57

I mean user and rev

I'm secretly a bit fascinated by illegal adoption as a "hook" for spam. How many people actually think 'Yes, I want a baby I'll email that address there'? But they must, (and in significant numbers) or the scammers wouldn't use it. So sad.

Anyway that's a major digression.

SerfTerf · 07/06/2017 11:58

Thanks wait

PollyPerky · 07/06/2017 11:58

TM has not been avoiding events. She's been on the bus travelling the country talking to 'real people' rather than journalists in studios.

Engaging with the electorate in marginal seats is a better use of time than firing off soundbites in a radio car somewhere.

LeMontane · 07/06/2017 12:00

waitforit and anyone who claims Dianne is a racist:

  1. Have you suffered from racism?
  2. Do you believe that Dianne does not suffer from racism? what has been your experience and effects on your day-to-day life?
  3. Do you believe that white women suffer as much from racism as West Indian women?
  4. Who suffers worse under racism, white women or West Indian?
  5. What do you think about the power to shape a narrative by sheer (majority)number of white women on here and together with the Daily Mail compared little representation of alternative voices possibly of West Indian "mothers"?
  6. Would any of you know what West Indian mothers feel about Dianne's statements?
LeMontane · 07/06/2017 12:00
  1. If it were not for Dianne, would you vote Labour?
mollyminniemo · 07/06/2017 12:01

I've watched Diane on This Week (After Q Time on Thurs night) for years, and really like her (despite being a Conservative voter) especially when her and Portillo are together. I admired her for her depth of knowledge, strength, intelligence and articulation- and ability to challenge Portilio and any other guest about issues that concerned her in great style. So her recent appearances just don't add up, its not who she is and I agree something must definitely be wrong. Hope she's ok.

SerfTerf · 07/06/2017 12:02

Oh crikey, I've just realised maybe Fox wasn't having a go at me Blush

Charmageddon · 07/06/2017 12:03

Diane's replacement sounds just lovely by the way!

(Mail link, so anyone offended by the Mail may wish to look away now - it's from 2011 though, so not a Corbyn Smear! or indeed a Labour Smear!)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2015202/MP-letter-blast-blind-man-Out-way-Labour-whip-shouts-reporter.html

Conversation:

Lyn Brown (new shadow Home Secretary) had just barged into Sean Dilly (a blind journalist, who had his guide did with him):

LB: Shouted "for fuck's sake, move out of my way"

SD: asked her to be careful

LB: "you are such a rude man, you just walked right in front of me"

SD: "I'm blind you stupid woman" (then asked her for her name).

LB: "I'm not giving it to you, fuck off"

SD: said he'd get the security guards to identify her for him in that case (he's blind)

LB: "You just do that and see what happens

She then tried to storm off, the commons security tried to stop her; her reply to commons security:
"You are harassing me, leave me alone"

The Labour Party:
For the many, not the few

(The few being the disabled in this case).

Charmageddon · 07/06/2017 12:04

guide dog* obviously, not guide did Blush

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 12:05

People with Serf in their username are:

  • Always trying to shut down others
  • Often have offensive body odours
  • Slip made up references into their literary contributions
  • Are almost assuredly parked in a mum and child spot....but with no child along.
LumelaMme · 07/06/2017 12:08

FFS, LeMontane, the issues with DA go far beyond racist attacks, or remarks she has made in the past that can be interpreted as racist.
In answer to your questions:

  1. Yup.
  2. Of course she does.
  3. Nope
  4. See 3 above
  5. Sure narratives can be shaped: we all know about groupthink, propaganda etc. But DA's recent cock-ups are just cringe-making.
  6. Nope. How is this relevant to how Diane appears to ALL of the electorate, unmediated by the Daily Mail, in her own words, on the telly?
  7. Fuck no. I used to. Not any more. I dislike the Hard Left, and they are currently at the top of the party.
waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 12:10

Oh dear make

le

With the greatest respect I live in Handsworth Birmingham all my life. If you don't know that area google it. I have most certainly suffered from racism.

I don't give any credence for racist remarks from anyone whatever their colour or race it's simply wrong.

Dianne had made disgraceful racist remarks and should have been sacked years ago.

FoxSticks · 07/06/2017 12:10

I wasn't having a go Serf I genuinely agreed with you, about the Labour bots. I missed the interesting looking comments above though.

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 12:11

Actually make after your last post are you hanging around with Dianne and getting ill? Do us all a favour and take a long break

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 12:13

As I said on the other thread, the fact that DA has made a fortune from her left wing policies sticks in the throat too. £110k for appearing on the BBC and thousands of pounds for speaking at events.

Sure. You're a real woman of the working people, love. You and Tony the Millionaire Socialist Blair.

Tanith · 07/06/2017 12:15

Barry Gardiner has said in a radio interview that it is a serious and long term illness and it has been diagnosed.

SerfTerf · 07/06/2017 12:16

So very sorry Fox. I completely misread in my bot-irritation. I do apologise.

Clandestino · 07/06/2017 12:17

While I wish her a speedy recovery, I hope she will stay away from politics for the foreseeable future. She may be a good activist but she sucks at big politics.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 12:17

quick quick lets think something up to smear her replacement with, even though it was years ago and resolved

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 12:17

racist remarks

A real point. "Racism" in its true sense can only be felt by a race who has been oppressed. "Racism" means systemic bigotry perpetuated by a power structure.

Black people can be the recipient of racism. Our system in the UK is built by and around white people. Our systems can subject black people to racism.

White people cannot be - according to this definition - subjected to racism. The power structure is white.

Diane Abbot may have said bigoted things, but they were not racist.

Lifegavemelemons · 07/06/2017 12:20

I'm with Molly - though not a Tory voter - I've watched her for years on this week and have really enjoyed seeing her sparring with Andrew Neil and Portillo. She has been consistently sharp, well informed and articulate. The person we have seen recently is nothing like that. I have a good friend who is an active member of the LP in her constituency, they actually don't like her as a person but say she's been a very good MP so they will continue to vote for her. Policies not personalities and think of the bigger picture.

I'm having to hold my nose and vote for a candidate whose policies I'm luke warm about (lib dem) and who I'm not that impressed with as a person due to their attacks on JC (& I'm not a LP member ) rather than tackling issues. My own candidate (green) has stepped down and we are being asked to tactically vote to get the Tories out. I will do that.

The stakes are far too high to let antipathy or animosity to any candidate stand in the way of stopping the privatisation of the NHS, the slashing of funds to education, social care and policing and yes, the serious underfunding of efforts to prevent terrorism. May accuses JC of voting against anti terrorism measures. It's absolutely clear to me that the antiterrorism measures the Tories have implemented simply don't work, in fact have made things worse. If JC did not vote for such policies then good for him. He's never voted "against antiterrorism" he's simply argued that the policies being put forward wouldn't work. They didn't, he was right.

Prevent has simply caused more anger and resentment among these young men. Cuts to youth services have left them with no where to go to integrate with other kids - they are at the mercy of exploitative adults.

We need a drastic change in direction.

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 12:22

It is the same with patriarchy. Women can be subjected to Misogyny. But there is no such thing as Misandry. The system was designed by, and for men.

Individual women can be horrible. And men can suffer from negative pressures. But it is not the same.

Badders123 · 07/06/2017 12:22

I don't dislike Diana Abbott because she is a woman, or black.
It's because of her dire voting record and her always putting her own interests first.
She is a liability.
Looks like the PLP have finally cottoned on to that.

Charmageddon · 07/06/2017 12:23

quick quick lets think something up to smear her replacement with, even though it was years ago and resolved

😂😂

Googled the new shadow Home Secretary and this is what there is on her.

If the JC's Labour don't want to be 'smeared' (I would call it commenting on past behaviour, but hey-ho), then perhaps they should have behaved a bit better!!

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 12:24

make

Thanks that made me laugh out loud. You are priceless sorry I said go please don't. Stay and keep entertaining us.
