To ask what are the best things about having a little boy?

I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant and really excited to be having a boy. I am however getting a bit scared about the whole giving birth part, so trying to focus on the bigger picture. I would love to hear how great it is to have a son to help me concentrate on the positives.

Aww, they're fab! Mine is clambering all over me right now. He's as affectionate and energetic as a puppy and delights in making me laugh.

I have a DD too, and she's wonderful and I adore her. But no one's ever loved me quite the way my boy does. Grin

Persephone31 · 06/06/2017 15:17

My boy is hilarious and super affectionate, he tells me he loves me and wants to marry me and he compliments me on new clothes Grin His little sister isn't talking yet but is just as adorable. Little girls AND little boys are wonderful

UsernameInvalid66 · 06/06/2017 15:19

I had two little boys, who are now very big boys (young men really).

They are very different in many ways, but both have always given the most wonderful hugs, and when they were little I loved watching them learn about the world, how everything was fascinating to them, even trivial things that older people take for granted, like a caterpillar or a cement mixer. Taking them for walks was a real pleasure and I think we got out with the pushchair pretty much every day of their early years, rain or shine (so you get exercise too!). You could sometimes almost see the cog wheels going round as they played and learned with things in their immediate environment too. I remember DS1 when he was nearly 1, sitting on the kitchen floor with an apple in his hand, turning it round very slowly and examining all sides of it as if he was really thinking about what it was and what it could all mean.

And then there's all the adorable things they say when they are learning to talk. One of my favourites was when DS1 was a toddler and DS2 was a baby. DS1 was sitting on my knee and I was playing with his feet and I said, "Who's got nice little feet?" I thought he'd just say "me," but he thought about it for a moment and said very seriously, "DS1 and DS2 have got nice little feet." How could you not love that?

Of course all this could be true of girls too, but I know boys best and I will always have a soft spot for them.

Strokethefurrywall · 06/06/2017 15:21

Oh my God, boys are effing amazing. I have 2 of them, a 5 year old and 3 year old.

Every day, when the helper picks them up and takes them to the park after school, they come home covered in sand and dirt and present me with a gift. DS1 generally picks me a flower and DS2 often gives me a rock. Although the other day he gave me a baby hermit crab.

They are the funniest, silliest, grossest little blighters in the world and I love seeing them covered in mud, and wrestling. They make jokes out of farts, talk about their willies all the time, and have bottomless pits for tummies.

And at night, they climb into our bed and I wake up with a little, chubby 3 year old hand rubbing my face and a whispered "I love my mama" - seriously, it's so bloody cute.

In fairness, I don't think it would be ANY different if they were girls, they would still be wrestling, making fart jokes and getting covered in dirt but I can only speak from my experience of my boys.

They are seriously fantastic - congratulations!!

TiredMumToTwo · 06/06/2017 15:22

I have one boy & two girls - obviously it depends on experience but I found girls quite needy & full of drama where as boys are more laid back & straight forward. My son is lovely, thoughtful & funny, he has lovely friends & is great company.

Strokethefurrywall · 06/06/2017 15:22

Oh, and they tell me that I have lovely boobies. That's always nice.

Lookforthelight · 06/06/2017 15:24

I have a cousin who is 12 and he's the sweetest boy ever. He's funny, makes me laugh constantly (from a very early age), sweet and so caring. I see him helping his grandma by holding her arm when they walk, and hugging his mum.

Soooo much energy though, honestly like having a little puppy. Smile

Almostfifty · 06/06/2017 15:25

Boys like cuddles. What more can you ask for?

1stTimeMama · 06/06/2017 15:25

I have 3 boys and 1 girl. My 2 older boys are so helpful, and one in particular is so, so considerate. They are far more affectionate than my daughter too. They're funny, know no fear, and are a delight. My daughter is fab too, but for different reasons!

Lemondrop99 · 06/06/2017 15:26

Following this with interest. I had always subconsciously invisgened myself with a little girl and it wasn't until I found out I'm due to have a boy, that I realised I'd never imagined what that would be like. I'm very excited and loving reading all the rest stuff about boys.

Personally I'm hoping for less school friendship dramas at least!

justkeepswimmingg · 06/06/2017 15:28

Having boys is the best! They don't call them 'mummies boys' for no reason. There is an incredible bond between mums, and their sons (not to discredit daughters at all). My DS is so so affectionate, he's helpful and kind. He always wants to make me happy, and the cuddles are amazing. I'm expecting another boy, and I can't wait Smile. Congratulations OP.

mummyofmoomoos · 06/06/2017 15:31

Iv two boys, 5 and 4, theyre so funny! Smart, sweet, full of love- non stop energetic muck monsters! And after bath time, all dried and ready for bed, i have one sat on each leg and they snuggle in for a story ❤ bottom humour is rife and theres never a dull moment xx all the best xx

waitforitfdear · 06/06/2017 15:31

Er please!

Op I had 2 boys and 2 girls who are all totally different but all equally lovely.

I hate this 'boys are more affectionate bollocks' maybe if you treat all your kids the same they love you the same way.

Your boy will be awesome op.

ElephantsYeah · 06/06/2017 15:32

When my boy was born my mil wrote in the congratulations card 'boys come with added brrrrm' she's right - he loves vehicles. This morning his highlights were watching a tow truck, a bin lorry and pointing out all the cars that look like mine. I have no idea if this is a boy thing or just a toddler thing though, but it's super cute and amazing.

His best outing is to watch the construction site down the road....

EdmundCleverClogs · 06/06/2017 15:33

I have one, he's an absolute joy (at the moment, he's in the middle of a super nap). He so silly and fun, he's honestly taught me how to enjoy life again. I'm pregnant again and secretly hoping for another boy Blush.

KeplerYellow · 06/06/2017 15:33

I'm loving reading all of your posts, thank you for sharing! It has made me even more excited about becoming a parent. Persephone31 I have no doubt little girls are wonderful too, I would have been equally happy either way.

My DS is coming home form his first year and Uni tomorrow and I can't wait for the monster hugs!!

I'm sure your DS will a total joy OP - good luck with the fabulous journey - its like no other Smile

AlphabetSoup3 · 06/06/2017 15:42

Affection.
Energy.
Physicality.
And much simpler and less emotionally wearing than girls... !!!

noeffingidea · 06/06/2017 15:43

what are the best things about having a little boy? . Pretty much the same best things as having a little girl, IME.

daydreamnation · 06/06/2017 15:44

I have both and my ds is the quieter, less physical of the two. He's 12 now and while sociable and popular at school, very much a homebody and still loves spending time with me.
As a baby he wasn't a great sleeper and co slept for many years but he was such an easy going, affectionate little boy I was fairly easy going about bedtime and he's been in his own bed for many years now!
He's just wonderful, creative, kind, a real gentle soul. Congratulations! Flowers

Dandandandandandandan · 06/06/2017 15:45

Both are amazing.

But purely anecdotally, based only on my DC and friends' DCs, little boys seem to be much more cuddly. I adore the very bones of DD, and the rare cuddles I do get are lovely, but I am a bit jealous of my friends with their koalababy little boys Grin

alittlequinnie · 06/06/2017 15:46

I only have a daughter but she presented me with a Grandson 3 years ago so I was launched into the world of boys! He is amazing - so funny, yes, just like the PP he talks about his "winkey" none stop and whether or not Mummy has a "winkey" too? He sticks his bottom out when he is about to fart which is the upmost hilarity.

He also says "Mum-mar - I luff you so much" spontaneously - can't stop climbing up you and hugging you which is lovely...

... but best of all is that Mummy is a film star in his eyes - he has to have her attention and make her happy and if he is telling her something really important - you know like about Spiderman - he grabs her face and pulls her around so that he can talk right into her eyes!

I loved having a daughter but he is a real eye opener - so lively! I need a lie down after seeing him!

MrsJamin · 06/06/2017 15:46

Less emotionally wearing? I think not. I have the most sensitive 7 year old boy. Anyway... Congratulations on having a boy, OP, mine are both terrific in totally different ways.

cjt110 · 06/06/2017 15:48

less emotionally wearing than girls... !!! I wish this were true of my son!

My son is 3. It means we get to carry on with our things like going to car racing etc that we did before he came along. We can have some rough and tumble play. And that he will ALWAYS be my little boy.

SasBel · 06/06/2017 15:48

I have a girl and 2 boys, they are all different and all fab, but I have to be honest, now she is 7 the hugs are fewer, the boys are still very cuddly, long may it continue!

Good luck with your pregnancy, sure the birth will be fine Smile
