To ask what are the best things about having a little boy?

I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant and really excited to be having a boy. I am however getting a bit scared about the whole giving birth part, so trying to focus on the bigger picture. I would love to hear how great it is to have a son to help me concentrate on the positives.

I don't have any experience of girls, but I always pictured myself having one. The day I found out I was having twins I had a hunch it would be two boys, and I was right. They are 18 months now, and I don't know if things would be any differently with girls, but they are the lights of my life. They are so cuddly and affectionate, give the best kisses, have great dance moves, are constantly on the go, and bring me more joy than I ever thought possible. I never expected to be the mother of twin boys, but I feel so lucky that I am.

I love the fact that my ds introduces me to new things. For example, I sat for hours with him when he was a toddler watching building sites. I know more now about dinosaurs than I ever have before. (I know girls can do these things too. But I didn't when I was little).

I'm sure dd will also introduce me to her own new things too Smile

Just look at a toddlers playing: there's always a bit of a mix, but mainly the boys run to the cars, and the girls to dress up. Look at young children fighting. Like it or not, there are differences between boys and girls. Of course, it's not an exact science, and there's always the "my boys like pink and glitter and my girl looks like a boy".

I didn't realise how different they really were until I had my own.

mowglik · 06/06/2017 16:19

I have two and love them to bits - my youngest is just a baby but the oldest is 4 and he is so so affectionate. Loves his baby brother to bits and never forgets to mention every member of his family when telling us who he loves. He loves to bring me presents of flowers from the garden or stones he's randomly picked up.

Little one is a very cuddly baby so I'm sure he will take after his brother and give lovely hugs too.

And whenever he sees me wearing a dress he always says 'mama you look lovely' - I always tell his dad he has much to learn from his son.

"what are the best things about having a little boy? . Pretty much the same best things as having a little girl, IME."

Totally my experience too.

AssassinatedBeauty · 06/06/2017 16:23

It's great to have children irrespective of their sex. They have their own little personalities that gradually emerge which is wonderful to see. I have two children, similar in some ways and different in others. The eldest has started school this year and has developed in so many ways, getting different interests and wanting to do different hobbies. My youngest is 11 months and is just developing an independent streak, wants to charge around and explore everywhere that's within reach! I love watching the process of a tiny baby turning into their own person.

ConfidentlyUnhinged · 06/06/2017 16:27

I've got one of each - in my personal experience boys wreck your house, girls wreck your head. I love them both but had it my head I would only have daughters so DS was a bit of a shock. It took me several months to cease being surprised he was a boy... He is a bog monster, a human wrecking ball, loud, boisterous and prone to hangry outbursts. When fed he is polite, charming, so so funny, mannerly, helpful and gives just about the best hugs known to mum. The birth was better than without DD but she'd already wrecked my undercarriage so I'm not sure how much credit he gets for that!

JoandMax · 06/06/2017 16:28

I have 2 little boys - they are wonderful, funny, energetic and loving.

But the best thing isn't to do with them being boys, it's that they're mine. I love them unconditionally and unreservedly for who they are and they light up my world on a daily basis!

JuicyStrawberry · 06/06/2017 16:33

Boys are wonderful Smile
Mine are so affectionate and cute. And really funny! I love the cool clothes and the cool toys. Hair isn't a problem which is great because I'm crap at doing hair. I just pop some gel on and they're good to go. And it's not an enormous faff when they get head lice because they don't have long hair!
I still get to enjoy things with them that I enjoyed as a child. Things like Lego, creative stuff, cars, wrestling Grin, bike riding, going on holiday, going to the fun fair, cinema trips, etc.. The list is endless. Just because they are boys it doesn't mean I have to miss out on reminiscing about my own childhood. It wasn't all barbies and glitter! 👍🏻

They're my little buddies. I love their company. They are AMAZING 💙

blue2014 · 06/06/2017 16:40

He's only 6 months but he is the most amazing, most charming thing in the world!

Oh and you know, birth isn't that bad. Don't be scared, it'll be ok SmileFlowers

JuicyStrawberry · 06/06/2017 16:40

Oh and I'm another one that has learned a lot about Dinosaurs since having a boy! Smile

"what are the best things about having a little boy? . Pretty much the same best things as having a little girl, IME."

Me too. I have both and the differences between individuals is significant, the differences between the sexes not so much (until they go through years of being indoctrinated by everyone around them!).

Bungleboggs · 06/06/2017 16:42

My boys tell me they love me everyday, the cuddle me every evening. I love having boys xx

sufficatedsue · 06/06/2017 16:44

I only have boys but compared to their friends who are girls I'll keep my boys thanks Grin

Imbeingunreasonable · 06/06/2017 16:46

ElephantsYeah - that sounds exactly like my eldest. Youngest boy is starting to enjoy trucks and cars too but that's cause the oldest son has that flippin many of them and nothing else Grin

MrsD79 · 06/06/2017 16:48

He will love you like no other man. My son (4) calls me his princess. Squeeze the life out of him!! So funny. Easier than girls. Boys just want to play. Girls cry too much. I have 1 of each. Boys are waaaayyy easier!

JuicyStrawberry · 06/06/2017 16:50

He will love you like no other man.

I love this ^^ Smile

What a load of rubbish

justkeepswimmingg · 06/06/2017 17:07

Ragwort I made the comment about 'mummies boys', not in being possessive of my DS though (that would be laughable Wink).

It's just a saying, just like 'daddies girls'. Boys tend to have a close relationship with their mums, and girls tend to have a close relationship ship with their dads (and NO this isn't very single boy/girl mum/dad relationship - just to clarify for anyone over analysing people's lighthearted posts Grin).
Let's lighten up a little people, no one is stereotyping.

Whatsername17 · 06/06/2017 17:13

I have two daughters but my nephew is awesome. Such a caring, cuddly and happy boy.

Maxandrubyrubyandmax · 06/06/2017 17:13

Their energy, relative lack of drama, the cuddles, the affection, the humour, easy to do hair😁

Osirus · 06/06/2017 17:35

no one is stereotyping.

Really?

My nephew is the whiniest, most emotional child I've ever met. He's very sensitive and loves quiet activities.

My other sister has two girls and a boy - they have all been the same in all ways. All equally affectionate, loving, brilliantly intelligent.

I have a girl - too young to know who she will be yet.

AnyFarrahFowler · 06/06/2017 17:43

He is cuddly, charming, funny, loves his food, and his little neck always smells amazing.
He reminds me of my dad, who we lost in 2008.
He can rock a trilby like no-one else I know.
Congrats OP Flowers
