To ask for a summary on the Tory v Labour stance on what to do about terrorism?

This is looking like being the most critical issue of our times at the moment despite my thoughts that Brexit was the crux of this election.

Can anyone cut through the waffle and tell us what the 2 main parties are offering to do about extremists and terrorism?

OP posts:
Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 10:29

Agree he's run a good campaign and TM a frankly dreadful one. I don't trust either of them as far as I could throw them though as seen it all before with Thatcher and Blaire.

Agree with most of that.
Only difference is I trust TM more than Corbyn.
(Although am not blind to TM's faults by any stretch).

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2017 10:29

I repeat, where is the hero worshipping and fan girlery you so offensively talk about?

bruffian · 05/06/2017 10:30

Yrs he's run a good campaign

Mainly because he's got a hysterical fantasy on social media

TMs has been shit.

I can totally see through labours campaign though, I don't believe a word of it.

I believe the tories campaign, but I hate most of it.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/06/2017 10:30

And Diane Abbott will be in charge of our security

Where is she? As Shadow Home Secretary this is her brief!

bruffian · 05/06/2017 10:33

She's been banned until after the election because she's an utter liability

Cakeahoy · 05/06/2017 10:34

Ooo I didn't realise I was hero worshipping. I thought I was pointing out blatant Sun reader bullshit.

I truly thought my political ideals just lined up mainly with Corbyn.

Hmm, maybe I should get some posters up. Do you reckon he'd pose topless and wet like the boyband pictures of yore?

bruffian · 05/06/2017 10:34

*fanbase not fantasy Confused

bruffian · 05/06/2017 10:35

blatant Sun reader bullshit

BINGO

Killdora · 05/06/2017 10:36

I think it's the rallies, live debates and his speeches (especially that one last night, it was a corker, have you seen it?) that have made his campaign a successful one.

Those were the things that won my vote over anyway.

Cakeahoy · 05/06/2017 10:38

Yes bruffian BINGO indeed.

The sun reported it exactly as you said 'Corbym won't let police shoot to kill, now has uturnes'

Both were rubbish, ignored the fact that the BBC reporter had to retract her misrepresentation of Corbyn, and everyghingbeha actually said. Ironically, including in the video they tout as 'evidence'.

bruffian · 05/06/2017 10:39

He won't be allowed to let police shoot to kill.

Half of his cabinet hate him!

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2017 10:40

"Only difference is I trust TM more than Corbyn."

This is fascinating!

Putting Corbyn out of the equation, Wh has May said or done that makes you trust her?

CivQueen · 05/06/2017 10:42

bruffian it's already been explained to you exactly why that is, to put it politely, horse shit.

I agree this is a fascinating insight in to what people are really thinking.

It's not really painting some in a fantastic light is it?

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2017 10:42

I can totally see through labours campaign though, I don't believe a word of it"

So. Two things you disagree with and why.

Two4One2017 · 05/06/2017 10:44

Bear - re: the internet and radicalisation. It acts as an echo chamber and accelerates radicalisation. There are many factors that contribute to radicalisation, so it makes sense to tackle internet content as part of an overall approach to addressing how people become radicalised. There is no one solution here. Report below is from 2013 so a bit out of date.

www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/research_reports/RR400/RR453/RAND_RR453.pdf

www.gov.uk/government/publications/online-radicalisation/online-radicalisation

Here is some data to give you an idea of the scale of the problem from the government report above, from 2015, so a bit out of date:

"During an average week, the CTIRU is removing over 1,000 pieces of content that breach terrorism legislation. Approximately 800 of these are Syria and Iraq related and have been posted on multiple platforms."

"In the last 12 months (to the end of June 2015) around 38,889 internet takedowns were undertaken by the CTIRU reducing extremist material available on the Internet. That is over 100,000 since the unit was set up in 2010. Much of this has been achieved by forming working relationships with key social media outlets."

Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 10:44

I repeat, where is the hero worshipping and fan girlery you so offensively talk about?

It's everywhere across the threads.

In fact, I was pretty explicit in my post.

Any dissension from JC as saviour of UK is Not Tolerated.

If you dare to say anything anti-Corbyn you are labelled as all being all manner of bollocks.

Cakeahoy · 05/06/2017 10:45

He won't be allowed to let police shoot to kill

Oh Lord. Do go back and do some reading, this is getting tiresome.

That is rubbish. You've been told multiple times exactly why it is rubbish. You have yet to answer any real questions on this rubbish you are spouting.

Again, do you understand the difference between a general shoot to kill rule and a proportional one?

Do you understand that Corbyn not being in favour of one does not mean he doesn't believe the other is necessary? He's said it himself.

His cabinet will come crawling back as soon as they realise actually, he could be electable, and they don't have to hide to protect their future positions.

Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 10:45

Ooo I didn't realise I was hero worshipping. I thought I was pointing out blatant Sun reader bullshit.

Lol - perfect example!

Don't like Corbyn?

Sun Reader!

Blatant Bullshit!

#JC4PM❤️

bruffian · 05/06/2017 10:46

Taxing private school fees - figures don't work, will cost the govt when people pull kids out when they cannot afford to pay fees. But will save the parents plenty so still able to afford to move to good areas and tutor so will take places that would have gone to others.

Free heating and no social care contribution from all elderly. Un means tested. The very rich people in my village are rubbing hands together over that one.

No tuition fees. Fees should be means tested.

That's three off the top of my head

Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 10:48

*"Only difference is I trust TM more than Corbyn."

This is fascinating!*

Putting Corbyn out of the equation, Wh has May said or done that makes you trust her?

You are making the mistake of assuming I think TM is trustworthy.

It's relative.

I completely distrust Corbyn, I have an extremely negative trust rating of Corbyn.

I trust TM more - ever so slightly positive, but not a great amount.

Ergo, I trust TM more than Corbyn.

Cakeahoy · 05/06/2017 10:49

I've never used a hashtag in my life Grin

But go ahead if it makes you feel better.

Yes, sun reader, as in someone repeating crap from the sun (even if they personally haven't read it) that has already been fact checked, and to quote the last leg, is 'BULLSHIT'.

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2017 10:50

Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 10:51

Yes, sun reader, as in someone repeating crap from the sun (even if they personally haven't read it)

How can I possibly repeat something that I haven't heard, seen, or read?!

Is it such a great leap of logic to think that maybe, just maybe, there may be different people who reach the same conclusions about things?

makeourfuture · 05/06/2017 10:55

Trident ain't doing shit is it?

bruffian · 05/06/2017 10:56

^^ this

I don't think I've read the Sun for 40 years and even then it was because someone left one on the train.
