Listening to TM outside Downing Street vs JC - I think she may have just won the election - saying what people wnat to hear and hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

Nope, more political rhetoric and empty statements.

Note she is referring to ensuring the police and security services have all the powers they need, nor resources.

Legislation is all very well, but doesn't stop people doing what they do.

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2017 11:16

That begs the question of why it wasn't done in the many years she was Home Secretary.

Fruitbat1980 · 04/06/2017 11:16

She has already won the election in my view. She has probably just strengthened her majority. She's not got charisma like he has, but she appears in control and strong v's his weak attitude to security. Right now people are worrying about work on Monday, not social policy that might impact them in a few decades time.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/06/2017 11:16

No. That's. Not. How. It. Works.

Bejazzled · 04/06/2017 11:17

I agree and also started a thread about her statement. It won't wash on mumsnet though. I've been pretty disillusioned on here in the past couple of weeks, there is absolutely no tolerance of any conservative (small c) views.

Cocklodger · 04/06/2017 11:17

She still doesn't have my vote. I don't think she ever will either.

YouTheCat · 04/06/2017 11:17

She cut 20,000 police. Strong and stable my arse.

Jinglebells99 · 04/06/2017 11:18

Nope. This happened on her watch and the cuts to police and defence have left us vulnerable. I'm not reassured at all by her empty words.

InfiniteCurve · 04/06/2017 11:18

hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

Doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement - well, she sounded good and some of what she said might get done.Maybe. Grin

CitrusSun · 04/06/2017 11:20

Rubbish, actions speak louder than words and she worships at the altar of Saud while preaching honesty, she is a total hypocrite

sooperdooper · 04/06/2017 11:20

No because all this has happened while she's in charge & has been building while she was Home Secretary - nothing she's done has stopped it, the situation has just got worse and worse so how can anybody believe she can keep the country safe going forwards?

ilovegin112 · 04/06/2017 11:23

This all started building when labour (Blair) started messing around in Iraq and the Middle East

YouTheCat · 04/06/2017 11:24

Not when the Tories messed about in Kuwait then?

Madbengalmum · 04/06/2017 11:25

All of Blairs making, but nobody seems to remember that conveniently.

Snap8TheCat · 04/06/2017 11:25

I don't know any public sector workers who would vote for her.

Cocklodger · 04/06/2017 11:25

What's Blair got to do with it? I wouldn't vote for him and didn't back then.

Kit30 · 04/06/2017 11:26

Even if May wins the election I don't think she'd survive a leadership contest.

Coastalcommand · 04/06/2017 11:27

No, her government has got us into this mess!

WhipWhipCrackAway · 04/06/2017 11:27

No I don't think so. Too little too late.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/06/2017 11:28

cocklodger You think joining America in going to war and destabilising an entire region leaving a vacuum for extremist rule had nothing to do with Blair?

ahipponamedbooboobutt · 04/06/2017 11:28

Yes I really want to vote for that person who has been prime minister for 9 months yet has faced 3 terrorist attacks, has lost us 20,000 police officers and has given those poor doctors and nurses who are battling this very moment to save 48 lives, real time paycuts. Never mind the selling arms to the Saudis. Hmm
Sure, she talks the talk, but as Amber Rudd suggested we do - "judge us on our record". I will.

0nline · 04/06/2017 11:28

Don't get British news on my telly over here, so not sure what she said, but what I am reading ... she had won it already.

Something to do with relatively lower rates of actual voting in groups that more strongly favour Labour, and relatively higher rates of voting in groups that more strongly favour the conservatives. Plus "shy Tory" factor. The upshot was that polls need to show Labour 12 points ahead for them to have a shot at winning. Not sure, but think it was a left leaning analysis rather than right leaning propoganada.

Anyway, if accurate, it would it would explain why I cheerfully went to bed expecting to see Prime Minister Kinnock in the morning, and woke up going all .... WTF happened Hmm ?

Never been all that keen on polls since.

DJBaggySmalls · 04/06/2017 11:28

Gosh yes I cant wait to buy ivory and see an end to those pesky elephants.

FitnessFad · 04/06/2017 11:29

Totally agree with the OP, a career defining speech from Mrs May.
I have no doubt she will win this election on Thursday.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/06/2017 11:29

Nope. She's can talk the talk, then do a spectacular U-turn, but she can't walk the walk, and actions speak louder than backtracked words.
