Listening to TM outside Downing Street vs JC - I think she may have just won the election - saying what people wnat to hear and hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

What did she mean about "embarrassing conversations"?

Madbengalmum · 04/06/2017 11:42

Fontella. Yes, pretty sad that people cant have a different view without constantly being called out and berated, however, it speaks volumes for me.

Vango · 04/06/2017 11:43

Still waiting for an answer. What's she going to do that she hasn't had the power to do before the most recent attacks?

zeezeek · 04/06/2017 11:44

Oh yes, a nice bit of victim blaming with the too much tolerance to extremism line. Not at all to do with her cuts to the Police then.

zoemaguire · 04/06/2017 11:45

Yeah, because all I care about is somebody posturing about keeping us safe without actually putting any resources into ensuring that we genuinely are safe. Also, the fact my kids' school has no money and my dad has been waiting nearly a year for a life-saving op is clearly utterly irrelevant to how I will vote.

I'm constantly amazed at the jaw-dropping idiocy that drives some people's voting decisions. So fucking depressing.

Hulder · 04/06/2017 11:45

Spent all her time in the Home Office cutting police and prison officer jobs.

Wonder why we are where we are now?

Vango · 04/06/2017 11:45

Anyone?

desertmum · 04/06/2017 11:46

why distasteful? Just saying it was a good speech three days prior to the election - despite having a day of no campaigning - that was a campaigning speech imo.

saying what people want to hear

What was that then? I must have missed where she actually said anything of value.

All i heard were meaningless platitudes. I don't expect a full run down of her plans going forward but saying 'Enough is enough' is nowhere near what I want to hear.

DJBaggySmalls · 04/06/2017 11:48

List 3 things she said that were good.

sadie9 · 04/06/2017 11:49

She used the opportunity to campaign for herself, without anyone having the opportunity to question her.

haveacupoftea · 04/06/2017 11:49

Sadly she has already won it because most people don't have any understanding of politics and how the Tory policies will affect them. Government and politics really should be a mandatory GCSE.

However, I don't know what she said and I don't want to know. She and her cronies make me sick to my stomach.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 04/06/2017 11:49

Nothing in there of substance. You'd be daft to vote for her on the basis of that speech.

whoputthecatout · 04/06/2017 11:49

Just wondering what Jeremy would have said in this position.......

BeyondStrongAndStable · 04/06/2017 11:49

"despite having a day of no campaigning - that was a campaigning speech imo"

I utterly agree.
Do you not think that a blatant campaign-ish speech when you have said you won't be campaigning out of respect is a tad distasteful?

MssGameandWatch · 04/06/2017 11:50

I could barely be bothered to listen to her to be honest. I have so little faith in this government, can't trust them to do the right thing.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 04/06/2017 11:50

She also mentioned that there should be increased internet policing. Funny how internet controls are in the Tory manifesto.

No campaigning today though...

IHateUncleJamie · 04/06/2017 11:50

For the woman who has cut 20,000 Police SO FAR - with yet more cuts to come - no, she has not just won my vote.

desertmum · 04/06/2017 11:51

You only have to look at the Brexit vote to see that actually people don't vote on policies and long term strategies, but knee jerk reactions to what is going on the in the country. We are leaving the EU because of the 'immigration issue' - and I think TM will get in on the back of that speech. Many voters won't read any of the manifestos that are out there in order to make an informed decision on how they are going to vote.

In contrast to JCs woolly statement I thought, as she is saying what people want to hear, she will now win.

Not saying I agree with it, just wondering what others think. While it wasn't quite fighting them on the beaches, it had tones.

For the love of God will one of TMs supporters please tell me why she'll be in a better position to sort this out on 9 June than she is in now and has been in for some time?

BeyondStrongAndStable · 04/06/2017 11:52

Jeremy was asked how he thinks this will impact labour votes. He looked very uncomfortable at the question and said (paraphrased) that he's only thinking of the victims today.

MaisyPops · 04/06/2017 11:52

I don't like her but I think she came off well in the statement.

Unfortunately, she slashed police and armed forces during her time as home Secretary, oversaw awful prison contacts to g4s etc and now as prime minister is talking all about powers and not about resources.
On top of that she is still happy to get involved in arms deals with countries that abuse human rights.

She says to judge her on her record. I have. And as a result could never vote for her.

Amanduh · 04/06/2017 11:52

It's one of the best speeches she's ever given. Which isn't that hard, but... it's what a lot of the general public wanted to hear. Previous and future action, actual truth behind it and whether it's just words and arguments aside, I do think she'll win some votes from Joe Public after that.

desertmum · 04/06/2017 11:52

She also talked about making Britain great again - wasn't that a big part of the Brexit campaign? Jumping on the bandwagon maybe.

But you cant or wont answer any of the reasonable questions you've been asked.
