To not understand how you can vote Tory after watching this

Kimonolady · 02/06/2017 20:03

Not trying to be goady. Not trying to start a fight.
This video truly shocked me to the core and I actually found it hard to finish.
If you're planning on voting Conservative - has this video given you pause for thought? Is there a way you can explain your choice in light of it? Genuinely curious.
Video is at the top of the page (article worth reading too.)

I vote Tory because I DO give a shit! I give a shit that benefits are no unlimited. Everyone who needs help should get it. I think privatisation of the hospitals is a brilliant idea (and for those of you who don't understand what that means, it will be having Boots the chemist or Greggs charged floor space in hospitals so generating money for the NHS). I don't want the state paying for my child to have a free lunch. Give it to those that need it and I'll pay for my four. We need Nucs or we will be a target. You don't go into a gun fight without a gun and Jeremy Corben has his head up his arse. He'll cut our defence budget leaving us even more vulnerable. There is no 'pro' to voting labour. Only cons.

metspengler · 02/06/2017 20:31

Most ethical positions good rational people hold are separated by accepting different (often unprovable) premises.

If you have found yourself believing the other side are just evil off hand and make no effort understand how they could decently vote for their party, you have become bigoted and ignorant.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/06/2017 20:31

Fucks sake - yet another party political broadcast on behalf of the Labour Party 🙄

We get it - JC is going to save the universe on 9 June and TM is going to kill everyone Hmm

The more rampant posts on here will do a good job of converting some of the undecideds, much as you don't want to believe that.

Oh and not all Tory voters have horns and tails

20nil · 02/06/2017 20:32

What economics professor and what 'local college'?

Kimonolady · 02/06/2017 20:32

Purits I would genuinely recommend you watch it! Didn't mean to put you off.)
I see where you're coming from with your comment about bias, fake news is so enraging. I just feel the life of the woman in the video is so stark that I can't imagine any other circumstances that would explain why she's living that way, unlike in the nurses and food banks example you gave. Would be v interested if you did choose to watch it and then shared your view.

Shameful in a supposedly civilised society.
Thing is, when people get a bit of money they want to keep it and don't give a shit about the poor and vulnerable if it will cost them any of their money. That is what Tories rely on- human greed not human kindness.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/06/2017 20:32

Although it's wonderfully ironic that there are a lot of posts accusing posters of being from Tory Hq Grin

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 02/06/2017 20:32

No one wants to face their own ignorance.

Of course everyone who votes Labour on Thursday is morally superior and in no way ignorant at all. Hmm

Jeez.

TrollMummy · 02/06/2017 20:33

It's easy to ignore the poor, sick and disadvantaged when you live in a comfortable bubble. I have never seen as many homeless people as there are currently on the streets, a direct correlation between the increasing amount and Tory cuts.

jarhead123 · 02/06/2017 20:33

I don't understand the woman who says she cant afford all her different medications.

She needs to get a pre payment prescription card, only works out at £10 a month!

ArseofInfinity · 02/06/2017 20:33

I hope none if your baby bears ends up disabled then, mummabearfoyrbabybears

Private healthcare insurance don't tend to like long term payouts.

Oh and it might come as a bit of a shock when you realise that when you or someone you love is 'someone that deserves' support you won't get it.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/06/2017 20:33

I'm not watching it either - you managed to put me off too.

And asking people to justify their choices is ridiculous

time4chocolate · 02/06/2017 20:36

I have watched it, I have a disabled son and I will be voting Tory next week. Guess that makes me uncaring and selfish then Confused

Kimonolady · 02/06/2017 20:36

LiviaDrusillaAugusta At no point at all have I tried to suggest Tory voters have horns and tails. There are certainly comments like that on this thread, but they're not coming from me. I actually find them extremely unhelpful becauss they just shut down discussion.
I would never be so ignorant as to think that people vote Tory because they're mean or uncaring or selfish or whatever else has been bandied about.
I started this thread because I had a genuine question for Conservative voters, which was what do you think when you watch videos like this?

OP posts:
Killdora · 02/06/2017 20:37

Yeah as I said.

If they were so sure that they are voting for the good of the country and that they care, why would they be so scared to see what's being provided to the vulnerable with their vote?

Fontella · 02/06/2017 20:37

We get it - JC is going to save the universe on 9 June and TM is going to kill everyone

Grin Grin Grin

After a shit week (nowt' to do with politics) that made me proper laugh out loud).

I bloody love Mumsnet, but it is so hang-wringingly lefty liberal I rarely bother to post on goady political threads.

So having ventured in a bit tonight, it's good to see there's a few at least who don't follow the 'Socialism is the only way for decent, caring, human beings' mantra that makes out any of us who vote otherwise are several degrees right of Attila the Hun.

PetyrBaelish · 02/06/2017 20:38

StarUtopia I am sorry, but 6 lines in that story reveals itself to be absolute bullshit. No where does Corbyn advocate absolute income equality. I would challenge you to find even the most extreme leftist thinker who suggests such a thing.
How do you get from challenging grotesque levels of income inequality to that? And how could anyone reading it think that it is profound enough to repost?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/06/2017 20:38

Between the 'Tories will eat your children and JC will save the universe', and the 'I would shag JC/Keir Thingy/any other labour politician, there's not much nuance on here at the moment

Kimonolady · 02/06/2017 20:39

time4chocolate I'm extremely interested in your situation, do you mind me asking why you plan to vote Conservative? Have you experienced the lack of support for disabilities in the video, or has your experience been better? (I really hope so.)
I'm not at all suggesting you're uncaring and unselfish. Just intrigued about how you square that video with your vote. Is it that other issues are more important to you, like the economy, education, etc?

OP posts:
LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/06/2017 20:40

if someone watches it and says they have changed their mind, you can grow.

If someone watches it and shrugs, then they are apparently heartless

It's just an exaggerated version of the MN double whammy of virtue signalling/smug leftie

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/06/2017 20:41

*crow not grow

FFS Grin

Kimonolady · 02/06/2017 20:41

LiviaDrusillaAugusta I have to admit, I actually am quite partial to Keir Starmer... But then I used to think the same about Zac Goldsmith too! My crushes don't discriminate haha.
Would genuinely encourage you to watch the video, and would be interested in your thoughts. Not out to get you!

OP posts:
HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 02/06/2017 20:42

mummabearfoyrbabybears the Tories are heavily cutting police funding, which leaves us very vulnerable.
Labour have committed to keeping Trident.

Privatising hospitals doesn't mean having a Boots there, it means a private company taking over patient care, with few penalties if they screw up. In my area ENT (ear, nose and throat surgery) has been taken over by a private company, they haven't kept up with the work and so have refused to accept any referrals from GPs for 6 months (except urgent eg suspected cancers). So patients have to wait 6 months before their GP is even allowed to send a referral letter.

That isn't grounds to terminate the contract btw.

School lunches I'm not too fussed about, but very frustrating for the schools that have spent money building a new kitchen which now won't be used.

Kimonolady · 02/06/2017 20:43

I feel like StarUtopia's post is one of those statuses that gets shared around Facebook a lot - it also seems very American, unless that's just me?

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 02/06/2017 20:43

I don't think the videos can have been faked or spun to suit a certain political agenda Hmm
