To think the Ariana concert is being held *way* too soon?

I think it's a fabulous idea to have this memorial concert. But...

Some of the dead have not even been buried yet. Those still in hospital are unable to attend. Families directly affected by the bomb will have much more to attend to right now than going to the concert.

I think it would have been a lovely idea to do in say the autumn - where people will have started to piece their lives back together a tiny bit.

Agree

Fletchasaurus · 01/06/2017 21:21

Agree, its still a bit too raw, I say that as a Manc.

Marmitelover55 · 01/06/2017 21:23

I think it is really brave of Ariana to go back so soon after the attack which must have been extremely traumatic for her. I don't think it's too soon as hopefully the families will get the money quickly.

WorraLiberty · 01/06/2017 21:25

It's difficult to get your life back together when you have a child/family member in hospital, long term.

The cost can be phenomenal financially, as well as emotionally.

Think of all the people who are unable to go to work/have to travel to hospital to see loved ones/stay in hotels etc.

Not to mention those who may have to have their homes specially adapted.

It's not just about funerals.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/06/2017 21:25

Far too soon.

user1471545174 · 01/06/2017 21:26

Yes, was talking about this with DH this morning - we concluded we are not the target age-group and they may not see it that way.

bananamonkey · 01/06/2017 21:26

Seems too soon but isn't some of the funding to cover medical and funeral costs?

CommonSenseIsNotAllThatCommon · 01/06/2017 21:26

I think it's a benefit concert isn't it?

firsttimemum15 · 01/06/2017 21:26

The families have been consulted.

GlitterGlue · 01/06/2017 21:26

Isn't it to fundraise for the victims? To be honest it probably does need to be soon while it's still fresh in everyone's minds. As awful as it sounds, if it was left until the back end of the year I don't think it would be as successful.

GlitterGlue · 01/06/2017 21:27

Plus people need money now. Bills don't pay themselves whilst you're stuck in a hospital bed.

ssd · 01/06/2017 21:27

its exactly the right time of the funding helps the families out

CommonSenseIsNotAllThatCommon · 01/06/2017 21:28

That's very true Glitter. The families need money now. Not in 6 months time.

Terfing · 01/06/2017 21:28

I agree. You can't rush closure.

Saying that, I am looking forward to it.

Highalert · 01/06/2017 21:29

I agree it's exactly the right time to raise money.

Theresnonamesleft · 01/06/2017 21:29

She really cannot win. Last week people where saying where is she, she should be doing x,y and z. She needed to think about the victims.
Now she's doing something and it's too soon.

Instasista · 01/06/2017 21:30

Who's to say it's too soon?

CondensedMilkSarnies · 01/06/2017 21:31

How do they decide who gets what amount of money ? I'm sure ( I hope) it's monitored properly as there are ruthless people out there who may try and claim some who were nowhere Manchester.

Some scammers have tried to get the concert tickets fraudulently .

Imaystillbedrunk · 01/06/2017 21:32

Plus there is a really small time frame where people will give up their time and money (I mean the artists who are self funding their travel and hotels - inc staff, and play for free) for an event like this.

The longer you leave it the more distant people, who were not directly involved, feel.

Groupie123 · 01/06/2017 21:32

The victims clearly disagree as they were consulted. Also hosting a concert weeks after a terror attack sends the right message to the bastard attackers.

FlossyMooToo · 01/06/2017 21:33

Yes YABU.

anon97528996 · 01/06/2017 21:33

I'm cynical, I think it could be her PR team getting her back into live shows quickly as possible and in the most acceptable way they can think of. Shes back finishing off her tour next week! I expect there's a lot of pressure on her.

PeaFaceMcgee · 01/06/2017 21:34

I also wonder if it's being done quick to get ahead of any potential organised copy cat attack... Plus fundraising.

Are a dozen or so still in critical care? Not sure that's a good criticism as some have brain and face injuries and may not want to go and be in the spotlight, even if they were conscious.

PeaFaceMcgee · 01/06/2017 21:35

So I think it's the right time.

HeyRoly · 01/06/2017 21:37

No point holding a benefit in 3-6 months when, essentially, it will all have been forgotten by the wider public.

Also agree that it sends out an important message about not being afraid to attend concerts.
