To think the Ariana concert is being held *way* too soon?

I think it's a fabulous idea to have this memorial concert. But...

Some of the dead have not even been buried yet. Those still in hospital are unable to attend. Families directly affected by the bomb will have much more to attend to right now than going to the concert.

I think it would have been a lovely idea to do in say the autumn - where people will have started to piece their lives back together a tiny bit.

I think in the news they said not all families agreed to it but most did.

It does seem raw however as others have said, the money needs to be raised now. It sounds like some of the injured are still in critical conditions and it would be great for their families to not have to worry about finances whilst they recover.

I do also like the message it sends to terrorists so early on, by having another concert esp with Ariana Grande headlining - we are not afraid. The amount of artists taking part and the sheer volume of people that tried to get tickets just shows we won't allow them to have us live in fear.

laylabelle · 01/06/2017 21:39

Agree with what's been said about it being fresh in people's minds. Leave it later till end of the year and people may be less bothered/rushing to donate as feel people would've sorted the bills and things out by then. At the moment however less chance of that

Though like said she can't win..doing it now..it's to soon...leaving it..Oh she doesnt care

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 21:39

The victims clearly disagree as they were consulted.

Not all agreed with it however.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 01/06/2017 21:40

The poor girl can't do right for doing wrong. She was devastated and wanted to be at home; she was criticised for not being there. She is coming back to put on an incredible night which is due to raise so much money for the victims and their families, and now it's "too soon".

Louiselouie0890 · 01/06/2017 21:41

I think some of it was because she was getting so much backlash she felt she had to do something

WorraLiberty · 01/06/2017 21:43

Until my son's friend got cancer, I had no idea of the huge cost that can be involved in having someone in or even in/out of hospital long term.

It can be massive, especially as some of those people had travelled a long way to get to Manchester for the concert.

Mumzypopz · 01/06/2017 21:44

The victims clearly disagree because they were consulted......how? There are still about 20 critically ill. How did they consult them?

McButtonwillow · 01/06/2017 21:45

I think it's the right time.

It's not just a benefit concert but a demonstration of resilience, unity and strength against terror. IMO it wouldn't have the same impact held months down the line.

NataliaOsipova · 01/06/2017 21:45

No point holding a benefit in 3-6 months when, essentially, it will all have been forgotten by the wider public.

I agree. I think it's very brave of her - the fact it sold out in under half an hour is testament to the strength of people's feeling about this. Good on her.

MiniCooperLover · 01/06/2017 21:45

The level of people involved are not easy to get together all at the same time, why not just see the good they are trying to do? The families of all hurt/killed will have been spoken to in advance.

Pedallleur · 01/06/2017 21:47

I'm with anon9. The music industry knows money can be made out of misery. Like it or not Grande got huge publicity from the tragedy. Her euro tour is continuing and all her set is over here. That artist list is right on target for her audience and it's being aired on the BBC - it really is win/win. Did TM cancel the booking fees for the tickets or stop the tickets going to the secondary market (part of which is TicketMaster). I still cant understand how it is that if I/we/you get shot down whilst flying over Eastern Europe we shrug our shoulders but after Manchester pretty people want to get onstage and people want to give money to the bereaved. I can see that for the girl who lost both her parents that money could be useful but how do you equate the loss of a daughter/son in financial terms?

Ameliablue · 01/06/2017 21:47

If it was just about a memorial it would be better to wait but I think it is so soon because it is a fight response to the fear people have felt.

Mumzypopz · 01/06/2017 21:47

I think they could have waited a couple of weeks at least, it was only very very recent. I can't help thinking this is to recoup some of the money they will have lost by cancelling the tour and trying to wake up some more fans for Justin Bieber, seeing as he has the same manager as Ariana.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 01/06/2017 21:48

I think those people with injuries and those bereaved will need the money which will come to them from this concert. I know when my friend's dd died very suddenly because of an accident, money was a big issue for them.

Giving someone tens of thousands doesn't make the pain go away but it means they have choices in how they grieve.

mumz all the money is going to the families, the performers won't make any money.

Viviennemary · 01/06/2017 21:49

I can see why people think it's too soon. But all things considered it might be better that it is sooner rather than later.

Mumzypopz · 01/06/2017 21:49

Mini cooper ...all the artists are managed by the same manager, Scooter Braun....so pretty easy to get them all together for one night.

Mumzypopz · 01/06/2017 21:50

If you go....I'm sorry, but I just don't believe they aren't making any money out of it.

skyzumarubble · 01/06/2017 21:50

I don't think so / I hope the funds get to where they need to as quickly as possible.

TrinityTaylor · 01/06/2017 21:51

Families have apparently had this discused with them and it is going ahead with MUCH discussion

I have a friend involved with organising it

Some are receiving monies in the next couple of days. Families who sadly lost someone are receiving up to 20,000, families with a relative/child in hospital are receiving something like 5,000. To do with what they want.

The concert sold out in six minutes. A lot of places round here are showing it on big screens and having fund raisers for those affected with food sales, donation buckets etc. It will raise hundreds of thousands

I think it is a response to those saying Ariana was too quiet after the attacks (which I hugely disagree with, poor thing is young and probably traumatized), I hope she truly feels up to it. I do think it is a bit of a f-you type thing also, a defiance thing, as music and gigs are a BIG part of Manc life.

gamerwidow · 01/06/2017 21:54

As others have said it's a fundraiser not a memorial concert. It needs to be done now while it's still fresh in people's minds to raise the most money to help the families affected.

Distribution of monies raised has been announced

Mustang27 · 01/06/2017 21:56

Yep

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 21:57

I think it is so soon in order to raise more money quickly. This one is a benefit money raiser - it will raise at least £2m for these affected and their families. That money is needed asap.

I suspect there may be other events at a later date, or other contact, but the purpose of this concert is to stand up and raise money for the current appeal.

From what I have read those most closely affected vary in their thoughts regarding timing, but many are for it too. They have apparently been consulted.

From what I can gather all the money raised is going to the appeal. The artists involved are performing for free. This is not a money making exercise for the artists - many of which, inc Ariana Grande herself, are already mid tour this spring/summer, and many in sell out concert venues. They aren't doing this to recoup money! Why do some people just always look for sinister or callous reasonings?

Did TM cancel the booking fees for the tickets or stop the tickets going to the secondary market (part of which is TicketMaster).

Yes. I got tickets today - there was no booking fees or anything, just face value of the ticket. TM had already said their own resale sites would not have them, and other resale sites joined suit. eBay have been deleting listings all day too.
