To think the Ariana concert is being held *way* too soon?

I think it's a fabulous idea to have this memorial concert. But...

Some of the dead have not even been buried yet. Those still in hospital are unable to attend. Families directly affected by the bomb will have much more to attend to right now than going to the concert.

I think it would have been a lovely idea to do in say the autumn - where people will have started to piece their lives back together a tiny bit.

Trinity.....how can you have "much discussion" with someone who is unconscious and on life support? Saffies mum only got took off life support today!!!

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 01/06/2017 21:58

Mumz they may make some money if people download their songs after hearing/seeing the concert but they won't be getting any money from appearing at the concert.

bevelino · 01/06/2017 21:59

I also think the concert is way too soon. Ariana, Cold Play and Katy Perry are amongst the richest celebrities on the planet. If they truly want to help they should donate money to the families and go and visit the injured in hospital.

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 22:01

It really does seem to be a case of getting money to families as quickly as possible. And the concert is doing its bit in raising a huge amount. It is a benefit fund raiser.

Money is already ready to go out to people in various amounts, as initial payments.

the money is needed now, not waiting for another 6 moths.

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 22:01

Mumzypopz - other family members, including her father, will have been involved perhaps.

derxa · 01/06/2017 22:02

At first I thought it was too soon but now feel a bit mean. It's better to do something good than nothing at all.

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 22:02

If they truly want to help they should donate money to the families

And you know they haven't then?
Not all celebrities publicise their private donations.

Sara107 · 01/06/2017 22:06

She is doing it as a benefit concert and I saw that they expect about £2 million from it. Which I suppose could be really helpful to many of the families. I think no matter when it was held, some people would find it upsetting. I heard some fans interviewed and they sounded about 9 or 10 and said they just wanted to have the night like it should have been - with a happy ending. So I guess some people will be devastated and some will find it healing. What I find grotesque is tickets coming on resale sites already, for hundreds of pounds. How cynical to prevent tickets from going to genuine fans and then seek to profit from them.

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 22:07

As for the artists themselves - it will cost many money to be there. For example Take That are performing at the concert. They are also performing in their own tour later that evening - there must be very little time for them to do so - Manchester concert starts at 7pm. They will be on stage in Birmingham (I think it is) for 8:30pm. That means a quick set, and then a mad dash to get to transport (presumably they will be charting a helicopter) to travel to the next city and be on stage. Yes, hey have the money to do it, but so easily, they could have just said "no, sorry, w can't do it as we are playing in another city' but they didn't. They also gave all the proceeds for their concert that night (or the postponed one?) towards the funds.

Believe or not, not all celebrities are selfish beings! no more than most of us on here. Even celebrities can care.

Mumzypopz · 01/06/2017 22:07

Also, the date isn't great when there is a GCSE the very next day and I should imagine a lot of the teenagers who want to go, will be sitting that GCSE.

Pinkheart5917 · 01/06/2017 22:07

It's to fund raise for the families effected by this so tbh it does need to be when this is fresh In people's mind.

I believe they have consulted the families effected and they clearly dis agree with you.

The families effected will have funerals, loss of wage due to injuries or bereavement or just bloody shock. They need that money now not in a years time when you think it's acceptable to do the concert

SuperBeagle · 01/06/2017 22:07

The families were consulted, so evidently they don't think it's too soon.

So YABU.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 22:08

The families were consulted, so evidently they don't think it's too soon.

Not all the families did agree.

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 22:11

Also, the date isn't great when there is a GCSE the very next day and I should imagine a lot of the teenagers who want to go, will be sitting that GCSE.

I can't imagine that was their first thought tbh. There are many more people, inc those at the original concert, who are not doing GCSEs. The original concert was a school night in GCSE time too.

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 22:12

Not all the families did agree.

For some of those families, there will never be a right time. Some will probably never go to a concert again. Which is completely understandable.

They still have to go with what they feel is right for the majority, inc when the money is needed - and that is right now.

honeyroar · 01/06/2017 22:13

I think it's too soon. It would have been nice if some of the hospitalised injured could have gone, say in six months time. There have been endless collections and fundraisers aside from this (certainly in the Greater Manchester area where I live), there must be money ready to be given to the families. And nobody will forget or not want to buy tickets for a gig by such popular artists, it would've been like a top up payment later on..

TrinityTaylor · 01/06/2017 22:15

Mumzy I meant much discussion with authorities, the venue, people involved with the events last Monday at the arena (security, their events team)

Obviously I hope they have not attempted to discuss too much with families who have bigger things on their minds such as a child in hospital or even worse, having to do the unthinkable and think about burying their child

TrinityTaylor · 01/06/2017 22:17

Lots of kids at the concert had a GCSE the next day and lots had to go in and do said GCSE after being involved, there was a poster on here talking about it in regards to her own dd. Every year there are things going on around exam time. My own sixteenth birthday was celebrated the night before my geography gcse, my dd's will be the same next year, party on the weekend, gcse on the Monday. Life goes on despite exams.

chipscheeseandgravy · 01/06/2017 22:19

I think it's to help families financially. Agree it's waaaaaaay to soon, but, they need to raise the money to help the families.

I did read that over 10,000 people applied for free tickets who weren't even there Shock. Think they had earmarked 14.000 tickets for those who were at the original concert but 25,000 had been applied for Angry

UnbornMortificado · 01/06/2017 22:21

Funerals including children's ones are expensive, some people can't just pull that money out.

I can't imagine what the victims and family's are feeling right now but if most are happy with the timing then that's fair enough.

Hulababy · 01/06/2017 22:24

chipscheeseandgravy I read that too. Shocking. Just how low will some people go!?!

neveradullmoment99 · 01/06/2017 22:24

Totally agree

MaisyPops · 01/06/2017 22:25

As a memorial, way too soon.

As a fundraiser event and two fingers to the attackers and to show great British spirit and solidarity, absolutely fine.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/06/2017 22:26

They could have raised money in a different way. The 'stars' could have had a whip round. Christ, they can afford it. They could have made a song and raised money that way. Its nonsense to say they had to have a concert especially now.

SuperBeagle · 01/06/2017 22:29

They just can't win, can they?
