Hi OP. Just to let you know my little boy had bacterial meningitis at just 2/3 days old. He is absolutely fine now and there's every chance Your DS will be too. I completely understand how you feel. I was literally heartbroken at the time and I couldn't believe it was happening.
He is in the best place and I hope he makes a full recovery. Meningitis now may be able to help if you need advice on anything.
Sending many hugs your way. Flowers

I hope he's continuing to improve. From what I have read viral is much lower risk than bacterial so try to bear that in mind when thinking about stories you've heard of. Flowers

My DD had bacterial meningitis at 5 months, was unconscious and fitting by the time she got into the treatment room, then did nothing but scream for the first week, but then gradually improved for the next few weeks and a few months on shes now an extremely content happy baby.

There's a charity you can phone called meningitis now, I found them very helpful for information and someone to talk to. They sent out a pack in the post too with lots of information on possible after effects, it helped having it to refer to for what was normal in the recovery period too.

Natsku · 01/06/2017 21:15

Fingers crossed it is viral rather than bacterial, and hand hold to you.

Oh Lndn Thanks

I can feel the relief in your posts. I'm so pleased he's getting better.

I hope you're looking after yourself too - are you managing to eat and drink?

Wherehasmydevilcomefrom · 02/06/2017 10:39

Glad to hear he's getting better.

MistySparrow · 02/06/2017 10:44

Flowers I'm so glad he's feeling a bit better x

Notalotterywinner · 02/06/2017 10:48

When my DD was in hospital what got me through was drinking lot of tea, proper tea from Costa and sometimes with cake, it definitely helped, I didn't sleep for days. Suggest similar for you, coffee if not a tea drinker and drink plenty of water, hospitals are often stuffy.

Thinking of you, he will be pumped with all the things to help him and as you say the nurses are fantastic Cake

RedSkySuperStar · 02/06/2017 10:53

You poor thing, how scary for you Sad he's in the best possible hands and you can do this, even when you think your at the end of your rope you will find some more because that's what we do as parents. I hope you have some support though as I'm sure you've had no sleep and you need to get some rest to carry on Flowers I hope he recovers speedily

They have just told us they need to run more bloods but not why. And I am scared again. I called the helpline suggested and they were wonderful and helpful. It is good to be able to speak to them as the nurses here are rushed off their feet and it takes some pressure off them.

They might just want to check his progress. It's really good that they are keeping a close eye on him Thanks

BusterGonad · 02/06/2017 11:22

I have no words of advice, except I know how horrible and scary it is to have a poorly child. I'm thinking of you Op.

LittleGwyneth · 02/06/2017 11:38

Tattsyrup · 02/06/2017 11:45

OP, where are you now? Are you still at the hospital? Do you have someone with you? Have you eaten, had something to drink? Have you managed to get some rest?
Please don't forget to take care of your own basic needs.
