Flowers your stronger than you think you are.
Once you've got results and know what the plan of action get a plan in place to ensure your at sleep and shower too as your boy will need you healthy to support him.

I wrote earlier about my son who had meningitis when he was 3 days old. When my son was ill, 19 years ago, they couldn't tell for several days if it was bacterial or viral, so they had to assume it was bacterial and give him antibiotics while they waited for the cultures to grow. Are they able to tell more quickly and avoid unnecessary antibiotics now?

Muddlingalongalone · 01/06/2017 06:28

Flowers stay strong for your ds OP. There's so much awareness around it now they catch it so early.
I had meningococcal sceptecimia (sp? The dangerous one) at 4 months and was very very lucky my gp had been in Africa and recognised it.
He's in the best place xxx

BritInUS1 · 01/06/2017 06:33

You are in the right place, both my brother and myself have had it as adults and while it was nasty at the time, we are both OK x

artycakemaker · 01/06/2017 06:36

Thinking of you all. Thanks

StealthPolarBear · 01/06/2017 06:42

So sorry to hear this op. I had it when I was 18, was in hospital for ten days. I was very very sick but have made a full recovery. Fingers crossed he will too.

Stickmangate · 01/06/2017 06:44

I had bacterial meningitis a couple of years ago. Got tired very easily for a few months after but all fine now. Wishing him well xx

ohfourfoxache · 01/06/2017 06:46

Poor wee lad Sad

Wishing him a speedy recovery and sending you a very unMNetty Thanks

sunnyshowers · 01/06/2017 06:55

You can do this...you have to but it's ok to be terrified. One step at a time.
My son had pnumoccail mengitis when he was a tiny baby.
They strated him on all drugs even before test results came back. Die to his size and weak immune system we were told wed about a 7% chance for a good outcome.
He's a perfect 7 yr old.
Although the fear is real and I still get emotional flashbacks it did have a good outcome.
You dont need to be strong you just have to keep breathing in and out. I m so sorry...I wouldn't wish it on anyone but even knowing what it is and getting treatment is the biggest determining factor with mengitis...and that's a brishe you ve crossed. The rest is time...so breath.
I found that concentrating on just breathing hot me through a minute, an hour, a day...keep in touch and thinking of you all

alteredimages · 01/06/2017 10:25

Flowers Lndnmummy. If it helps, I had meningitis b when I was a toddler and was very very ill. My parents were told that it was touch and go but I made a full recovery and have no long term effects.

Will be thinking of you and your DS today.

Fidoandacupoftea · 01/06/2017 10:32

💐 hand hold thinking of you

Gingernut81 · 01/06/2017 10:47

I hope you're managing to get more information and your son is doing ok. I had meningitis at 17 and Meningitis Now were a great help for myself and my parents. They gave my mum a lot of support and information at the time and provided me with free counselling a couple of years down the line as I was still affected by what had happened. https://www.meningitisnow.org

We are waiting for the ct scan and lumbar puncture. They seem to think it is viral. He is more coherent and a little chatty now. Thank you everyone for sharing

OP, my nephew had viral meningitis when he was 10 months old. He recovered well and quickly and is now all grown up and in a high powered job.
Stay strong. He is in good hands.
