To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?

KentMum2008 · 29/05/2017 22:33

Just that really? We all thought it was a done deal, T May was going to win by a landslide and we'd be crippled by another 5 years of Tory rule.

Fast forward a few weeks and a Labour victory doesn't seem like such a long shot.

AIBU to feel optimistic that Labour genuinely have a fighting chance? At the very, very least it might result in no overall majority, but the ultimate dream of a Labour govt, run by a true socialist isn't as impossible as previously though.

I would imagine the garden tax will hit everybody who owns their own house, even if they are on 'ESA '.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 10:17

so time to let bygones be bygones.

Righto I'll tell my friend to do just that and let you know how I get on.Hmm

dailydance · 30/05/2017 10:18

Jeebus.. I thought the corporation tax hike was ridiculous with Brexit on the way and now a land tax! What planet does Labour live on?! Do they want everyone in the country roughly worth the same as each other irrespective of their jobs/salaries... it's a touch commie

AllThePrettySeahorses · 30/05/2017 10:20

user1487175389 Johnathan Ball would have been 27 this year. He's just a bygone I suppose, along with his mum and dad now.

two

Just looked at that

Our council tax will increase by approximately 5k

Fucking hell...

PerkingFaintly · 30/05/2017 10:47

I've just read all the way through that Telegraph article about the "garden tax" to get to the very last line:
"A Labour spokesman said: 'This is desperate nonsense from the Tories. Labour has no such plans.'"

GreenGoblin0 · 30/05/2017 10:51

not sure where you are getting that figure from considering the manifesto doesn't mention what the percentage rates will be an indeed only says that they will consider a land value tax as an alternative to council tax. the tory graph article is rather misleading

Mummmy2017 · 30/05/2017 10:53

Anyone else ready about how labour are going to have a Land Tax, and it will cost you more than Council Tax.

PerkingFaintly · 30/05/2017 10:54

The article is mostly about a campaign for such a tax and lots of speculation. But it does make the claim

"The Labour manifesto contains plans for a Land Value Tax to replace council tax, which would hit people with gardens the hardest. The manifesto contains no detail of how the tax would be applied, but the Conservatives claim tax on the the average family home would go up from £1,185 to £3,837 per year, an increase of £2,651 or 224 per cent..

So that can be checked against the actual manifesto, if anyone fancies doing that.

ChinaRose · 30/05/2017 10:55

labour won't win without convincing scotland. Not happening. Not to mention all the love lost in poor, working class areas where immigration is a major concern. The conservatives are going to make gains in areas they could never dream of. JC has scared off the core Labour voters, the ones who have supported the Labour party over the years.

Nousernameforme · 30/05/2017 10:56

Mummy2017
I believe it has been covered but to repeat a previous poster the last line from the article on the land tax was
A Labour spokesman said: "This is desperate nonsense from the Tories. Labour has no such plans."

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 30/05/2017 11:05

green

From the various articles about it

I did try and find a non biased one but failed

Its not just in the torygraph...

Thank you for clearing the manifesto business i didnt remember seeing any figures

GreenGoblin0 · 30/05/2017 11:06

this is what the manifesto says

"“We will initiate a review into reforming council tax and business rates and consider new options such as a land value tax, to ensure local government has sustainable funding for the long term.”

no figures are mentioned and it is only an option that they would consider. any articles suggesting that this would amount to tax on homes trebling are scaremongering

see independent article

Thanks

GreenGoblin0 · 30/05/2017 11:10

you're welcome Rufus

Veinarde · 30/05/2017 11:15

What do you think of Labour's proposed Land Value Tax? Clearly, most households won't even be able to afford it?!
I am terrified!

kirinm · 30/05/2017 11:16

Vein - perhaps try reading other people's posts?

PerkingFaintly · 30/05/2017 11:17

Well this little patch of thread is proving very helpful for identifying Tory Bots.Grin

Crunchyside · 30/05/2017 11:19

If you have hope of a Labour victory you underestimate the stupidity of the general public... The Tories will win simply because they're now the "Brexit party" and that's what all the xenophobic idiots in this country want.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/05/2017 11:25

Do they want everyone in the country roughly worth the same as each other irrespective of their jobs/salaries... it's a touch commie

Only "a touch"? Wink

Dawndonnaagain · 30/05/2017 11:27

FFS, The telegraph have done this because he did so well last night.

noblegiraffe · 30/05/2017 11:45

I read in the Tory manifesto that they are planning to cut free school meals for kids to fund free breakfasts for fox-hunters. It's in the small print.

NoodleNinja · 30/05/2017 11:46

Dear God, all this 'Corbyn has IRA links' carry on is laughable. It's like they're trying to find any excuse to ruin him.

Theresa May has more links to terrorists than JC ever has.

And if we're running with the Corbyn/IRA sympathizer angle then we should also go with the Theresa May/Paedophile sympathizer angle just for good measure.
