To feel the faint stirrings of hope of a Labour victory?

Just that really? We all thought it was a done deal, T May was going to win by a landslide and we'd be crippled by another 5 years of Tory rule.

Fast forward a few weeks and a Labour victory doesn't seem like such a long shot.

AIBU to feel optimistic that Labour genuinely have a fighting chance? At the very, very least it might result in no overall majority, but the ultimate dream of a Labour govt, run by a true socialist isn't as impossible as previously though.

While Theresa May sells arms to Saudis who support Isis, she makes stupid comments about chocolate Easter Egg hunts 'because she's the daughter of a vicar' and cares about these things.

PerkingFaintly · 30/05/2017 11:55

Ha, I'm not sure they actually sullied their feet by touching the ground, Nousernameforme.Grin

Bungee. That's the way to go. Email goes out from central and

LakieLady · 30/05/2017 11:58

Really? No one outside his constituency had even heard of him.

What absolute tosh. He has been a prominent member of the Labour left since early 80s.

hottotrotsky · 30/05/2017 12:33

Op a "govt run by a true socialist"?
That wouldn't be allowed to happen. There'd be a military coup. As it is seeing as JC isn't a true socialist he's in with a chance. And seeing as he's appeased the right wing plotters instead of getting rid he's in with a chance. Just don't expect much socialism.

hottotrotsky · 30/05/2017 12:35

All this smearing of him as having links with terrorists is the ruling class running scared. They must be afraid of a Labour victory after milking the Manchester bombing flopped for May.

mothertruck3r · 30/05/2017 12:43

If a Land Value Tax is introduced will private tenants have to pay it or will the owner have to pay. If the former that is going to be absolutely absurd, most private tenants are already paying huge amounts in rent and council tax and they won't actually benefit from the increased amounts paid via a LVT.

prh47bridge · 30/05/2017 12:47

The owner would be liable. However, they would pass the cost on to tenants in the same way as for any other significant increase in costs.

'Milking' wow how low can you stoop! Disgraceful

PerkingFaintly · 30/05/2017 12:56

"We will initiate a review into reforming council tax and business rates and consider new options such as a land value tax, to ensure local government has sustainable funding for the long term."

Less panic-worthy?

Only up to the value of the rent cap

Oh come off it. He was an obscure , hard left back bencher of zero importance except to other hard lefties. I voted Labour I every election since 1979 and never heard of him.

Do some of you understand landlords are running a business? Or do you think housing should be free with landlords picking up all the bills?

surreygoldfish · 30/05/2017 13:59

To a PP who said that they don't know anyone NOT voting for labour.....I don't know anyone voting FOR labour.....so it depends who you ask clearly.

makeourfuture · 30/05/2017 14:02

Or do you think housing should be free with landlords picking up all the bills?

No one is suggesting this.

waitforitfdear · 30/05/2017 14:04

So How much will free child care for all 2 year olds cost?

waitforitfdear · 30/05/2017 14:07

milking

What a disgraceful and nasty post.

waitforitfdear · 30/05/2017 14:09

surry me neither and lots of my friend are labour natural supported but not with Corbyn at the helm

mogulfield · 30/05/2017 14:09

I thought Corbyn was doing well, until I was listening to radio 4 earlier, it made my toes curl listening to him trying to do the addy ups- a mistake he could ill afford about Abbott's blunder. Then this land tax... is that fake news or is it true?

christinarossetti · 30/05/2017 14:16

It's fake. Made up by the Telegraph.

CleopatraTheCatLover · 30/05/2017 14:30

Torygraph scaremongering.

Two4One2017 · 30/05/2017 14:46

It's in the manifesto...... it will happen because the taxes they are putting up do not fund all the spending. There is a funding hole (source: IFS). They need to get more revenue from somewhere, so land tax will happen. McDonnell has been wanting one for years.

OliviaStabler · 30/05/2017 14:49

YABU. He would be a disaster for this country. Thank fuck most people aren't stupid enough to vote for him.

This ^^

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 30/05/2017 15:11

And the Tories have been so amazing for the country over last 7 years.

Perfectplonker · 30/05/2017 15:15

I want to know why I've seen clips of that businessman asking JC about corporation tax and private school fees etc.

But I have not seen one repetition of that heartfelt reply from the midwife in the audience about the state of the NHS after May had prattled on not answering her question.

Or May being laughed at by the audience and jeered.
