How are you planning to vote if you earn over £80,000

howtovote · 28/05/2017 19:12

Just wondering the above really.
I can't stand the conservatives and always assumed I would vote Labour in this election, however with the tax increase over £80k I feel I'd be shooting myself in the foot a bit.
What do others think?

OP posts:
Bunnyfuller · 28/05/2017 19:54

Labour. I'd like to see more of my police officer husband, which hopefully the end of the public service cuts will gradually bring around. At the moment every shift runs to 4+ hours overtime because every shift is only staffed at 50% of what is needed. You'd be horrified if I told you how few police are on duty overnight in some of the counties outside the Met.

Moanyoldcow · 28/05/2017 19:54

£250 a year more at £85k and £2150 a year more at £123k.

I'm sorry but asking for an extra £179 a month from someone earning TEN THOUSAND POUNDS A MONTH is far from excessive.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 28/05/2017 19:55

Four do you earn over 80k? I'd not the thread title is very clear!

I also love how you believed the OP comment was a dig at you as she stated she worked very hard... boo hoo to you, the OP clearly stated I she was not having a pop at anyone or making sweeping statements against people who earn under 80k!

Stop being envious and stop finding fault just because a person earns more than you. Envy gets you nowhere!!

OP I am voting Labour, for me they are better for the majority, rather than the minority.

Squishedstrawberry4 · 28/05/2017 19:56

Your extra tax will give a fairer deal to hardworking minimum wage earners and look after our brave emergency services workers.

user1489675144 · 28/05/2017 19:56

It isn't about the tax to me. It is about the cuts to education, the NHS in chaos, cuts to social care, attacks on the disabled, vulnerable etc. Any of us could find ourselves in a vulnerable position one day, lose our jobs etc, so I vote for the party that I feel will help the many rather than the few.
PS Someone mentioned corporation tax further up ---- Spain, Germany, Sweden, I could go on and on with other countries pay MORE corporation tax than companies here so even if raised a little they would still pay less so why would they move?

nicp123 · 28/05/2017 19:57

Lib Dems all the way, tactical voting this time.

Lochan · 28/05/2017 19:57

SNP

Believeitornot · 28/05/2017 19:57

Well I believe in £100,000 it's about an extra 1k a year, rising to over 5k on £150,000. So not an insignificant amount of money

I could afford to lose that more than someone on minimum wage could afford to lose the same amount.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 28/05/2017 19:58

Conservatives will put up tax as well wont they

They just haven't said how much

icy121 · 28/05/2017 19:59

I'm with @Jaxhog

herethereandeverywhere · 28/05/2017 19:59

Labour.

Hate what the Tories did with the referendum, hate what they're doing to education, the NHS, social care.

We'll be significantly financially worse off as a family but I'll sleep at night as my conscience will be clear.

Corbyn is not my choice of leader, but May won't even do a TV debate, every interview she does is a disaster, she's out of her depth and has lost control. She's happy to push the UK off a cliff for the principle of Brexit when a few months ago she thought remain was best and the Tories had pledged to stay in the single market. Her party U-turned on nat.insurance and U-turned on the dementia tax. None of that is strong and stable.

Squishedstrawberry4 · 28/05/2017 19:59

Yes what moamy said ¥¥¥

£250 a year more at £85k and £2150 a year more at £123k.

I'm sorry but asking for an extra £179 a month from someone earning TEN THOUSAND POUNDS A MONTH is far from excessive.

ImogenTubbs · 28/05/2017 20:00

Around £115k here. Voting Labour. Can't stand the direction in which May is leading Britain.

Ecureuil · 28/05/2017 20:01

If you earn over £80k you must work some serious hours in a stressful job. Good luck to you

When I earned over 80k I worked a pretty standard 9-6 ish, it wasn't particularly stressful. DH now earns over 80k and works from home, usually 8-5. He goes away every now and then but definitely wouldn't say he's stressed, as he's good at his job and knows what he's doing.
Higher pay doesn't necessarily mean more stress.

ImperfectTents · 28/05/2017 20:06

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 28/05/2017 20:06

How lovely...

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 28/05/2017 20:07

I work very hard and a lot of hours in a stressful job.

So, the rest if us earning significantly less have an easy job?

I work very hard and a lot of hours in a stressful job. My dd, who is 8 really wants to be a nurse just like her Mommy. I am trying to subtly turn her away from it.

herethereandeverywhere · 28/05/2017 20:07

Blush I only earn £75k... (but I only work 3 days a week so if I upped my hours it would catch me)

DH earns multiples of that though, so household income wise we'd have far more in our pockets under the Tories, far less under Labour.

I'm still voting labour.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 28/05/2017 20:08

DH and I run out own business, we would vote labour, we aren't worried about personal tax rises, but the proposed corporation tax rises by Labour are ridiculous IMO.

I'm disgusted that the conservatives are lowering corporation taxes, yes they are actually lowering taxes for business, down from 20% to 17%Angry but Labour want to put them up to 26%- equally stupid!

So I'll be voting Lib Dem.

AntiHop · 28/05/2017 20:10

Why have you name changed for this thread?

wisteriainbloom · 28/05/2017 20:11

Labour, I think that May has undermined the police in the past, was unsupportive of senior officers as Home Secretary and because of proposed social care policies.

The final straw was her open support for fox hunting.

This well off country dweller despises it.

Lots of posters were really missing the point earlier in the thread about the OP mentioning salary.

conserveisposhforjam · 28/05/2017 20:12

Labour. I'd like to live in a fairer society.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/05/2017 20:13

Conservative.

She's not ideal, but absolutely right for now.

foodtime · 28/05/2017 20:14

The mn playground jealousy really chucks the toys if someone else has more money than they do.

If you earn over £80k you must work some serious hours in a stressful job. Good luck to you.

What the fuck am I reading? I am lucky enough to earn quite a lot more then 80k. Honestly I worked a lot harder when I was on min wage. Can we stop this nonsense that the harder you work the more you earn. It's just something rich people tell poor people to stop them from rioting.
I have much more responsibility now but work half the hours I did before.

Also I am voting labour. small extra cost for a better place to live.

BluePeppers · 28/05/2017 20:14

I ouod hope that your vite will NOT just be based on the so called increase of taxes but on the OVERALL project that they propose.

So conservative:
Less taxes BUT no NHS, the dementia tax (I do not think for one second she won't introduce something similar even bough she has done a u turn on it), even less social service sin general or help if something happens (which could well be you in 3 years time, e.g. An accident or an illness)

Have a think. Is the fear of paying a little bit more taxes worth the loss of all that?

And then there is Brexit and how it's going to be negotiated, foreign policy, police forces, the army etc etc
