WIBU to replace my car after six weeks?

Tattsyrup · 25/05/2017 18:53

I bought a used car in April and since then I've been trying to convince myself that I like it, but the fact is that I don't like it. I don't want it.
I bought it unseen, having been shown a different vehicle (same make and model, but a slightly flashier version). There was definitely a fair bit of bullshitting from the salesman going on too.
If I sell the car I'll lose around £2000, plus I'd have the expense of replacing it with a car I actually like. I took out a small loan to buy the car, and I owe £4500 on that.
WWYD? AIBU to be considering selling it and buying something better?

That is what they now term a compact estate, it is much smaller than a standard estate.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 26/05/2017 22:20

I am stunned that they still make cars with manual windows and no air con.

ElphabaStrop · 26/05/2017 22:22

But the one in the link I sent had electric windows. It's supposed to be the same model as yours.

LightastheBreeze · 26/05/2017 22:26

The only thing I can think is it must be a foreign import as the specs can be different then, as it should have electric windows, the vehicle reg document may gave more details

ElphabaStrop · 26/05/2017 22:28

Are the front windows manual, or the rear?

really not overinvested

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 22:31

Indeed. The one you posted also has air conditioning. But they are the same otherwise, even down to registration.

Yes on the spec the rear are manual, this is quite common

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 22:34

Are the front windows manual, or the rear
Both.

I'm almost wondering if the one Elphabastrop linked to was the very vehicle I saw on the forecourt.

LightastheBreeze · 26/05/2017 22:35

DP65 will be quite common just means it's from Reading area

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 22:41

I know it's probably not the same one really, but it is possible it could be. And the one linked is almost exactly the same as the one I've ended up with. Just like the car I viewed.

So OP, your car actually has winding things to open all the windows, like this picture? Front and back?

How did you not notice this within minutes of driving away from the dealership, and why did you not drive straight back and question it?? Confused

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 22:46

Not that it would mean anything even if it were the same one! I don't know why I'm speculating. I need to go to bed.

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 22:49

koala I don't know how much more proof I can provide that I'm not lying. Why would I?

I did notice and I did question it. The salesman told me I'd signed for it and had to pay. I was an complete idiot on my own and, I admit, I got taken in.

DH bought a car recently and we made sure we both went along, him to concentrate on the actual car specs and stuff and me to fend off all the bullshit and extras they tried to sell us, and check the paperwork to make sure we didn't forget anything.

ElphabaStrop · 26/05/2017 22:59

I think you need to check the car's VIN. Also would be WELL worth paying for a full HPI check. If it turns out that the car is a ringer and/or a cut-and-shut, then you need to seek advice from Trading Standards.

And for pity's sake, whatever car you buy next, go to a main dealership, do your research and make sure you test drive and inspect the ACTUAL car you're buying! If that car has been written off and cut & shut you could be driving around in a deathtrap.

neonrainbow · 26/05/2017 23:05

Doesnt surprise me. Every dealing i have ever had with Vauxhall dealerships has made me feel grubby. In one case, my ex viewed a car and agreed to buy it. They said they didn't need to take a deposit, they would hold the car for him for 48hrs while his loan came through. He signed all the paperwork for the car. We went to pick it up 24hrs later, and another salesman had just sold the car to another couple as we pulled up. They hadnt taken it off sale and when ex questioned it they produced some paperwork for a completely different car (think he wanted to buy a vectra and the paperwork they had was for a corsa) and said that what he had signed. He was a twat in many ways but he never signed anything without triple checking.

In your case id approach trading standards. How has your 16 plate astra design got wind up windows when apparently they don't even make them like that?

And troll hunters, fuck the fuck off.

neonrainbow · 26/05/2017 23:06

I bought a car in exactly the way you describe op. It's absolutely fine as long as the dealership let you reject the car! In my case they were very happy that it was no obligation.

KoalaDownUnder · 26/05/2017 23:31

I'm not saying you're lying, at all! I don't think you are. I am just baffled.

This. I'd go beyond the dealership at this point. Something very dodgy is afoot.

jcsp · 26/05/2017 23:47

"It's just so basic! It runs ok, very nicely in fact, but that's all it does. No air conditioning, manual windows, no Bluetooth connectivity, manual wing mirrors (which are in a fixed position, so can't even be folded in by hand!)"

Less to go wrong in a couple of years time. I spent ages fixing our old Megane's electric windows. Same thing has happened to our Scenic's ones too.

Our 'weekend' car has virtually no fancy electric gizmos. Wind up windows, no Bluetooth, manual mirrors, no stop/start buttons, no digital dashboard, no A/C, no electric handbrake. I can get to stuff easily, change a lightbulb in a minute without skinning knuckles. It's not a vintage one either. It would have been a great family car if we'd bought one before the children flew the nest.

"....and despite it being an estate car, I can't fit the pushchair in the boot."

Now that is annoying. But it may be cheaper to buy a new pram rather than a new car?

Good luck.

LightastheBreeze · 27/05/2017 06:29

As PP have said I would contact the dealer about it and see what they are going to do, if you have no joy there, go to Trading Standards as one with manual windows doesn't appear to exist.

Was it a Vauxhall dealership or a car supermarket that sold you it.

Tattsyrup · 27/05/2017 07:09

It was a car supermarket. Am I allowed to name them? I'm never sure what's allowed on MN!

BusyBeez99 · 27/05/2017 07:14

I fitted a Buggy in my Fiat 500 boot. Why can't you fit one in an estate car?

I bought a car once and changed it after 6 months as I hated it

Tattsyrup · 27/05/2017 07:24

The pushchair is longer than the boot is wide, or deep. A previous poster suggested the car is a compact estate, which makes sense, but that is the first time I've heard that term.
