WIBU to replace my car after six weeks?

I bought a used car in April and since then I've been trying to convince myself that I like it, but the fact is that I don't like it. I don't want it.
I bought it unseen, having been shown a different vehicle (same make and model, but a slightly flashier version). There was definitely a fair bit of bullshitting from the salesman going on too.
If I sell the car I'll lose around £2000, plus I'd have the expense of replacing it with a car I actually like. I took out a small loan to buy the car, and I owe £4500 on that.
WWYD? AIBU to be considering selling it and buying something better?

My Astra (model 10+ years old) is a basic model. The wing mirrors are manual. It has air con and electric windows in the front. The back of the hatch takes a large Silver Cross pram and umbrella fold buggy although I have taken the parcel shelf out for ease.

The description the OP gives surprises me.

I would get in touch with trading standards and see what they advise. I had a refund on a car that didn't have the features advertised.

Either the OP has not read the details on the order form before signing, or she has been sold a lemon/cut and shut/old astra with false plates on it.

Regardless, buying a used car without seeing, inspecting and test driving THE ACTUAL CAR you're buying is beyond stupid. Consult Trading Standards/Action Fraud/CAB all you like, but I'm not sure they can do much given (a) the OP's naivety (b) the time that's elapsed and (c) the fact that she's seemingly signed to accept the new car without checking it over thoroughly to make sure it's what she ordered.

KoalaDownUnder · 26/05/2017 15:32

Cue the OP returning to inform us that her car isn't a Vauxhall Astra at all, but something totally different but she didn't really check...

ElphabaStrop · 26/05/2017 16:51

Grin ...tumbleweed...

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 17:16

Nope it's definitely an Astra...

Have you checked the VIN? Have you checked the registration number online to make sure it matches the model? Did you pay for an HPI check? Did you get a valuation before buying?

HollyJollyDillydolly · 26/05/2017 17:34

I can't imagine how the maclaren won't fit, they're a pretty standard sized buggy and an estate boot is bigger than most small hatchbacks.

LynetteScavo · 26/05/2017 18:21

I think you should get a new car, and realise you've learned an expensive lesson.

Mummysh0rtlegs · 26/05/2017 19:11

I think you have an astra hatchback not an estate. Is the boot lid attached to the boot or is it on rollers that you pull over your load?

I did some looking and the model changed during 2016. Is it possible the one you saw was the new version and the one you own is one of the last of the previous version? Even so, that doesn't make sense as the Design trim level of both generations has electric front windows and air con. The spec definitely sounds strange, could it be a parallel import from somewhere like Cyprus?

pigsDOfly · 26/05/2017 20:09

Don't understand how the boot of an Astra estate won't take a buggy. My old Astra hatchback had a massive boot.

My DD has a Vauxhall Corsa - much small boot than an Astra - and a stonking great buggy and she can fit her buggy in the boot of her car. She has to turn it a certain way, but it goes in with no trouble.

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 21:40

I've just gotten home after work. My phone has to be turned off while I'm in work, so haven't had opportunity to respond to all the replies.

It is indeed an Astra estate. 65 plate, registered in January of 2016, so likely to be a 2015 produced model.

The pushchair is too long for the boot; it won't fit horizontally (as it did in the model I viewed), or down one side.

If you look at Parkers website it has the specs for all cars so you can check what you have bought

ElphabaStrop · 26/05/2017 21:58

Right, so it looks exactly like that - and you're saying it doesn't even have electric windows?

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 22:01

Thank you, lightas, that's very helpful.

I found the spec list here:

However, this says electric wing mirrors and electric windows are standard...

Also if you check the car for insurance or tax it should tell you what the model is.

Tattsyrup · 26/05/2017 22:06

Yes, it does, Elphaba.

Have the windows got actual winder things like back in the day. My old cars pre 2000 had them.
