WIBU to replace my car after six weeks?

I bought a used car in April and since then I've been trying to convince myself that I like it, but the fact is that I don't like it. I don't want it.
I bought it unseen, having been shown a different vehicle (same make and model, but a slightly flashier version). There was definitely a fair bit of bullshitting from the salesman going on too.
If I sell the car I'll lose around £2000, plus I'd have the expense of replacing it with a car I actually like. I took out a small loan to buy the car, and I owe £4500 on that.
WWYD? AIBU to be considering selling it and buying something better?

They can't do anything before the car has been checked. I've taken it as far as I can with customer services, so now the car gets checked over and they see what they can offer me.
I'm almost certain they won't offer a refund (nor are they required to, once 30 days have passed since I took possess of the car), but they may offer to have the air conditioning fitted. They are maintaining that the windows and wing mirrors are correct for the model. Hmm Or they might offer a partial refund to reflect the car being lower spec. I'm leaning towards trying to negotiate a good part-exchange for the car.

I would personally follow it up with trading standards.
The car did not meet the spec that you were told it would. They were in breach of trading standards. You are entitled to your money back whether they like it or not.

Update!

The car went into Motorpoint yesterday and they have given me a very good deal on a part-exchange. I think there was a cock-up with the paperwork that went with the vehicle somewhere along the line. The paperwork didn't match the car, so that was the issue.
I've ordered a much higher spec Peugeot estate instead, with my good part-ex for the Astra. I think Motorpoint will lose money on the Astra, but that's their concern not mine! I'm dealing directly with the head of sales now. I'm much happier than I was 24 hours ago!
I must thank all of the Mumnetters who've offered me advice on this thread! And I should mention again how impressed I've been with Motorpoint customer service.

That's amazing news, well done!

Glad it got sorted Grin

PianoThirty · 08/06/2017 15:50

It sounds like you got tricked by the salespeople. Vauxhall brought out an all-new Astra estate in 2016; the dealer showed you the 2016+ model, but I'm guessing they sold you a 2010-16 model. Moral of the story: only ever buy a car you've touched.

As for whether you should throw away £2,000, absolutely not! I loathed my car at first, but after a few months I grew accustomed to its little quirks. Any modern car is absolute luxury compared to anything from our parents' generation. Recently we hired a van to carry some furniture back from IKEA: after we returned the horrible noisy van, the car felt like heaven.

In short: you'll get used to it.

Oops, I should really read to the end of the thread before posting!

I was just wondering how you had got on. Well done, glad you have had a successful outcome.

Crikey I've just traded in my 56 plate fiesta, only got £500 for it but even that had air con and electric windows at the front! And just fitted the buggy in

TweedAddict · 09/06/2017 21:57

Well done op, nice to see that they sorted it out for you.

Final update!
I picked up the Peugeot yesterday evening, and I couldn't be happier with it. It drives wonderfully, has every feature it should have, and looks great too. Despite the car being worth more than the Astra, the insurance is a little cheaper because the Peugeot has higher security features, so that's good. Lower tax, too.
I'm delighted with the new car!

Thank you all for offering your thoughts on this thread (even the troll hunters, without whom I probably wouldn't have realised the Astra was an incorrect model!).
I'm going to name change after this post, as this thread is somewhat identifying, especially as I'm going to post reviews on Motorpoint feedback pages. So this will be my last update on this thread, and I'm so pleased it's been a positive one!
