WIBU to replace my car after six weeks?

Tattsyrup · 25/05/2017 18:53

I bought a used car in April and since then I've been trying to convince myself that I like it, but the fact is that I don't like it. I don't want it.
I bought it unseen, having been shown a different vehicle (same make and model, but a slightly flashier version). There was definitely a fair bit of bullshitting from the salesman going on too.
If I sell the car I'll lose around £2000, plus I'd have the expense of replacing it with a car I actually like. I took out a small loan to buy the car, and I owe £4500 on that.
WWYD? AIBU to be considering selling it and buying something better?

I think the OP has to take some degree of responsibility here. She had every opportunity to inspect the car when she collected it and that should've been the time to kick up a fuss.

angryladyboobs · 26/05/2017 09:33

@araiwa

If you buy a car unseen and do not even test drive it, you are an utter fool.

LightastheBreeze · 26/05/2017 09:42

There are car dealerships now where you buy a car online and they deliver it to your house and you decide if you want it, I don't think I could ever buy a car online like this, its not like buying a dress you don't like and can just post it back. I'm sure there would be real hassle if you didn't want the car. We had a bad enough job just telling the salesman at a car supermarket we didn't want the car polish stuff for £299, they just kept trying to leave it on the bill. Buying a car is a minefield especially with so many car supermarkets now which pile them high and sell em cheap, they only care if they can sell you finance, car polish, Gap insurance and warranties. I'm sorry you have been had, OP

Vauxhall, if you're reading this - you and your shoddy employees are what makes getting an important family purchase so much harder. Our car is on its last legs and when it comes to thousands of pounds, I'll steer clear and try somewhere who I have more confidence in.

If the OP has a 16 plate car with no air con, manual windows, etc., IT IS NOT an Astra Sports Tourer. The Design is the most basic version and comes with these as standard.
The boot is the same size on all versions of the newest version of the Astra Sports Tourer (K). The different flavours (Design, Tech Line, Enery, SRi, SRi VX-Line, Elite) are all the same basic car with different trims and added extras. It doesn't matter whether the car comes with a space saver spare or the tyre inflation kit - the boot is the same size.
There are three options: i) OP is talking nonsense, ii) the car is not an Astra, iii) the car is an ancient Astra with 16 plates stuck on it.

KoalaDownUnder · 26/05/2017 09:54

Well, this is fascinating! OP, are you sure it's an Astra?!

I am stunned that cars were even manufactured with no air-con and manual windows in 2016.

Magpiemagpie · 26/05/2017 10:04

The one you saw was probably a GTC
I have a Limited edition Asta GTC and it's fabulous has loads of extras

my son has a 2014 Astra GTC and it's fully loaded air con sat nav , full electrics and Bluetooth
He paid £8500 in august last year

This in the case of iii) it would have to be a bloody ancient Astra, at least 10 years old as the previous model Design spec had air-conditioning, electric windows etc. as standard. It would have to be at least 10 years old.

BoysofMelody · 26/05/2017 10:18

Vauxhall aren't manufacturing Astras in 2016 without air-conditioning and manual windows and haven't for many years.

blamethecat · 26/05/2017 10:24

Have you checked it is actually the car they say it is i.e. do the registration documents stack up ? does the VIN number match the one on the paperwork ?

BoysofMelody · 26/05/2017 11:47

blame I don't think we'll see the op again.

winewolfhowls · 26/05/2017 13:35

How strange, I was just last night looking at these cars on autotrader. Put me off now.

memememe · 26/05/2017 14:08

i agree with the previous posters, the op isnt talking about the right car. we have the car she is talking about and the boot is bloody massive. can get all sorts of buggys in there, it has air con and elec windows (do they make ANY cars with manual windows these days) i think she is having us on..... god knows why though. its not exactly interesting....

Kokusai · 26/05/2017 14:10

Stop rolling over & playing dead fgs.

Put on your Bug Girl Pants, go down to the dealership and tell then it's not what they told you it was. Demand a refund & if they don't sort it out tell them they'll be hearing from your lawyer.

A letter from a lawyers is still cheaper than losing £2000

Crowdblundering · 26/05/2017 14:55

Boys

Seeing as I didn't say what model how on earth can you make a silly comment like that?

I looked at about 20 of a similar price all over the South West of England with private and commercial dealers!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 26/05/2017 14:55

Roll your wonky trolldars up if you can't use them properly.

The OP has posted plenty under this name.

BoysofMelody · 26/05/2017 14:57

Christ almighty will people read the thread, the car she is describing simply doesn't exist. There is model of Astra that matches the spec she describes. This simply can't be as the op describes!

Sorry there isn't a Astra that matches the spec the op describes.

Mummysh0rtlegs · 26/05/2017 15:06

No wonder I was getting confused. We had an Astra Estate when DDs 1 and 2 were born, in '99 and '00. It wasn't new then (I forget the reg), but we could fit first a standard 3 in 1 pram/pushchair combi, then a Graco Tandem - and they're bloody massive - in the back without any problem. So I'd be surprised if a 2016 model had such a titchy boot that it couldn't even fit a Maclaren in. Hmm
