To feel guilty about this?

Was hit by another car today going into a car park - after 2 barriers lanes merge into one, other driver should have given way, didn't and went into my side. Not too much damage, but could be costly respray, dent needs knocked out. Totally his fault. 18 year old driver, only had car a couple of weeks, insurance extortionate etc etc. His mum called me asked me not to go through insurance - I said I'd get a quote for damage, but I'd also tell my insurer . She asked me not to - it'll put his insurance through the roof, he has a high excess.

But - this has happened before (not the same accident obviously )and I've never gone through insurance, and always ended up with a shite repair job..

If I go through my insurance they will pick my car up, give me a courtesy car, get car fixed properly and deliver it back.

How do I know they will cough up? ? I've let my insurance know - but said I don't know if I want to make a claim.

Life would be easier for me to go via insurance, that's what I pay it for. Why do I feel so guilty???

I had a feeling they were going to go to the insurance company and deny he was at fault/lie in the end ... I hope your delayed reporting has damaged your position.

I hope there is CCTV, otw he might even try to deny where it happened!

I reported it pretty much straight away, but told them that I wasn't sure about putting in a claim as the other party was going to pay for repair.

Sorry only replying now. Credit hire and credit repair is when your insurance company offload your claim to another company when you are not at fault. They don't necessarily always do it. Depends on cover type etc. Basically means the cost of repair will be higher and the hire car you'll be given won't be a courtesy car provided by the insurance company but a chargeable hire car that the other side will have to pay for.

I'd imagine his insurance company will admit liability by the end of the week.

The person arguing liability on here - put your specs on.

No real update - except that because I have his phone number bloke has popped up in people I might know on fb. Interestingly lit gives a different first name, but it's definitely him. Might just be a cultural thing? (Name he gave was mohammed, fb gives different name)

Anyway - car goes in on Friday to get repaired

Ha ha! Shocker! Like they had a leg to stand on. Brilliant news Grin

Another quick update - get my car back tomorrow, and got £50 from my insurance because it's taken more than 7 days to fix - result!

Well done, always go through insurance people, this is why we have it.

Trb17 · 20/06/2017 20:46

Brilliant! Grin

That's great news. I wondered what had happened.

kali110 · 20/06/2017 21:36

Lol good! Hopefully his insurance is sky high now! That will teach the lying gits!

Ginmakesitallok · 20/06/2017 21:41

From the sounds of things the rear door has been replaced rather than repaired. So what would have cost £760 will now cost a lot more - adding in my courtesy car...

Hope they've learnt a lesson - a very expensive one.
