To think this is a sickening amount to spend on my hair?

A colleague was shocked to hear how much I spend getting my hair done. I really didn't think it was that extraordinate an amount. Then I sat down and worked it all out.

£40 for a trim, deep clean and blow dry (every four months)
£60 for a full head of colour (every three months)
£35 for full head of highlights and lowlights (every six weeks)

It comes to £640 a year in total. That's not including shampoos, conditioners, nourishing masques, styling sprays, heat defence sprays, hairspray, and basics such as bobbles, kirbies and Velcro rollers. In addition to this I have three pairs of straighteners, three curling wands of various sizes, two hairdriers and a multi-purpose thingamajig, which cost hundreds altogether.

Is this way too much? Really hoping someone else spends an even worse amount than me..

If it makes you feel good and you can afford it then why the hell not? Confidence and happiness are just as important to your health. Shake that mane!

God no that's not much at all. If you can afford it there's no reason to choose somewhere cheaper.

I spend £90 a month on my hair getting it de-Bee-Gee-d. If I didn't it'd be an abomination. I've been with the same person for about 7 years because I daren't take it elsewhere in case they release the natural mane of doom and I have to begin all over again.

I spend more than that. It's my hair, I love having it done and it makes me feel good too. There will be other things you spend less on. That's life.

It's all relative - I probably spend £200 on mine a year, tops, but I bought a £90 moisturiser last month I did use a voucher as part payment but I may have told DP it cost the £40 I paid and omitted to mention the voucher (it is AMAZING though)

I spend £300 on a cut and colour at my hairdressers. I absolutely love it, and it's my money so frankly I couldn't give a toss what anyone else thinks.

This bizarre snobbery of judging people spending their own money on things they like is really weird. People should mind their own business.

Thanks ladies - I feel much less guilty now! Mine wouldn't be too unmanageable without treatment but I just love the feeling of sitting in the hairdresser's chair and letting them work their magic. I'm SLT in a secondary school so I can afford it, but have four DC with no. 5 on the way so sometimes feel like I shouldn't spend that much on myself.

Sounds to me @MrsMachin you very much deserve the time to yourself to relax. It's the one extravagance I allow myself

Not at all. We have clients that spend that much just on hair extensions without the extras in between.

I spend £97 every 8 weeks, so about the same as you OP

Mine is £210 a colour wihich I have every 8 weeks and £60 a trim every 6 weeks.

It's my hair, I can afford to pay it

Your not spending too much as long as it's in your budget

It's not that the amount is excessive but some of the stuff in your list does sound unnecessary.

Surely nobody does highlights & lowlights every six weeks? If you do them so often, you will end up with colours all blurred into each other.

Nourishing masks, styling masks, heat defence sprays?

And what exactly is a "deep clean"?

Ilikecrocs it's what my hairdresser calls a wash with a nourishing hair masque - think it's just her name for a good scrub!

What business is it of hers whether you spend £600 or £6000 on your hair?

Yikes! I wouldn't fit in with you guys. I probably spend about £30 a year... at most...

(this is not one of those silly boasts about 'look at how little I spend, I just don't really give a crap about my hair and get it cut a couple of times a year when it gets too tangly... it would be better for me if I did spend more and cared more given that I am self-employed and first impressions are important)

£125 for a colour and £125 for a cut every 8 weeks and once a year I have highlights put throughout it - My hairdresser would like them in every 6 months, but its four fecking hours in the chair and I loose the will to live after 2!!! My money, my hair, my choice. The cut is fab - I never have a bad hair day, and for me not having that type of stress is priceless!

I spend £100 every six weeks on my hair.
I can afford it. Nobody elses business.
I also have six weekly facials, eyebrows done and bikini waxing.

I pay £230 per session, so it sounds cheap to me! DP pays £10 for his and almost fainted when I told him how much mine costs!

I normally only get my hair cut three times a year at £27 a go but I'm having colour out in in June so will need to go more often. It's £75 for colour and cut and hoping I can get away with only going every 10 weeks.

However I spend £50-75 a month on shellac nails.

Probably about twice what my car is worth but if you can afford it spend some of your money on enjoying your life!

Last time I went to the hairdressers I spent £210.
In my defence that included a £20 product and Olaplex treatment as well as full head of foils and cut and finish.
If you can afford it and it makes you feel good then why not!
