To ask if you carry a bottle of water with you during hot weather?

I should, and sometimes I do, but mostly I forget. I am the trying to find an ice coffee somewhere when I am desperate for something to drink.

Probably not the healthiest idea as I walk a lot.

I carry water as I visit clients at their offices and travel a lot and don't like to always ask them for a drink or buy single use plastic bottles.
If I were based in a single office I'd probably just use a glass.

GlitterGlassEye · 25/05/2017 21:58

I tend to carry a bottle of water most days now as I'm trying to drink more otherwise I could go all day without. It's been unbelievably hot here in Glasgow so I've refilled my bottle 5 times! Also kept some spare in the car for the dc on case they forgot to refill at school for the journey home.

Yika · 25/05/2017 22:02

No, I don't like water, only drink it if am seriously boiling and doing a strenuous activity.

Generally even on a hot day I'd rather have a nice long coffee or cup of tea... Don't like juice either. I do like squash/cordial. Freezing a bottle of squash is a great idea, gonna try that.

noramum · 25/05/2017 22:04

Only during commute. I hate still water unless really cold so I buy bottles of sparkling water and carry one with me. This I can drink even when it is not straight out of the fridge.

When I am just out of the house, no. If I am really thirsty I get a bottle at a supermarket etc (nicely cold).

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/05/2017 22:49

No, it would make my bag too heavy. If I'm out for several hours or away from shops and cafes I would take one in a rucksack, but not for school runs, shopping, taking the DCs places etc. I love water and drink lots but can also go hours without it. I keep a multipack of bottles from Aldi in my car boot, but often go weeks without using one.

MaidOfStars · 25/05/2017 22:56

Nope.

I have a 500ml water bottle at the gym or playing a sport. I take a small bottle (200ml) if running more than half-marathon distance. Shorter = no water.

I rarely drink water on purpose at any other time.

MaidOfStars · 25/05/2017 23:00

And I work very closely with a consultant nephrologist famouswho asserts it's better, in the context of a normal diet, to drink no extra water than to force litres down.

Xmasbaby11 · 25/05/2017 23:01

I always carry a bottle of water, year round. I'm a thirsty person!

Xmasbaby11 · 25/05/2017 23:04

I teach and every lesson (90mins) I drink a 500ml bottle of water. Classroom is often warm as I teach overseas students from hot countries so they keep turning up the air con to 24 degrees.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 25/05/2017 23:20

I get very nervous and anxious if I don't have water/something to drink with me at all.times. I won't even pop to someone's desk to discuss a work issue without a bottle.of water. People must thing I'm very strange but even taking for a few minutes gives me horrible dry mouth and I hate it

PoloStar · 25/05/2017 23:27

No. don't like the taste of water, don't drink plain water. Ever (so definitely don't carry it with me!)

ShelaghTurner · 25/05/2017 23:33

Yes. I also get a bit arsey if there's nothing to drink nearby. Even when I go to bed I have various bottles etc on the dressing table. I don't use them all, only have a few sips at night but I like having them there. DH came into the room last night and asked if he could have a drink from the bar...

Sounds like you need to see a doctor. Dry mouth that severe doesn't sound right.

TabascoToastie · 26/05/2017 02:52

Yes, I have a medical condition (orthostatic intolerance) that means I can get very ill and faint in a short amount of time, and water/sports drink is the one way to stave off an attack. In hot weather even walking for 10 mins is almost impossible without water.

I do have a giant bladder and can drink litres of water and tea for hours without needing to pee. (TMI!)

It's amazing the amount of people who seem to think the ability to go long periods without fluid is some kind of moral triumph or badge of honour. I guess it's the chronic dehydration making them crotchety.

2rebecca · 26/05/2017 08:23

People's bodies are designed to drink episodically, just like they're designed for us to eat episodically, with gaps in between not to constantly graze like cows. You have a drink of half a pint or so then get on and do stuff until you need/want another drink. The constantly sipping water thing is a new fad.
It isn't constant sipping v never drinking, it's constant sipping re drinking normally.

WaxyBean · 26/05/2017 08:25

Yes - all year round as you never know when you will need it. I have a couple of thermos bottles that keep water chilled - v pleasant this morning sipping iced water on a packed commuter train!

Exactly. it isnt being proud to be dehydrated. You are bloody dehydrated if you've had a drink recently and wait to have another one later.

humans evolved without water bottles attached to their hands.

new research suggests we dont need it anyway. there is water in food and it all counts as your daily intake.

FreeNiki · 26/05/2017 12:55

*arent bloody dehydrated

llhj · 26/05/2017 13:03

No I couldn't be bothered. Even water in my car ends up going rank as I just don't drink it. I'm not an exerciser though and fairly sloth like. Everyone at my workplace has huge water bottles going on with cucumber lemons etc and ice cubes jingling about. There's normally a queue at the cooler. It's so slow delivering the water.

caffeinestream · 26/05/2017 13:06

Humans aren't designed to need to drink water every twenty seconds. What if you did a job where you weren't allowed water with you except for at breaks? Or you worked in an environment were it was impossible to stop and drink several times an hour?

People who do those jobs don't drop dead with dehydration everyday! You stop and drink regularly out of habit/because you can - it's not a necessity (medical conditions aside).

DontTouchTheMoustache · 26/05/2017 13:21

Freeniki I think it's due to the medication I'm on tbh.
I don't understand why people are getting so het up about it, I would have thought it just comes down to personal preference? I prefer to sip frequently and drinking a lot in one go makes me feel a bit sick and as I said before I get dry mouth but others might prefer to drink more less frequently, I don't think it's really a case of either one being the "right" way to do it.

Hissy · 26/05/2017 13:28

only on mumsnet can people make a bun fight out of a bottle of water.

how sad.

Perhaps it's the dehydration....

MsGameandWatch · 26/05/2017 13:31

Yes always. I do a lot of walking as part of my job and it's awful being out in this weather with no water. I also fill dd's school water bottle with ice and just a bit of water and it melts down for her and stays cold during the day. Also I go on the tube regularly and they recommenf everyone carries water.

Can't think why other people care if anyone else drinks water or not.

SuperFlyHigh · 26/05/2017 13:34

I have a bottle of water at lunchtime and cup-flask of tea in morning.

Past few days I've bought a Volvic Juiced Orange water drink. I prefer water if it's got juice added to it sometimes.

Whatvever cools you down is fine!

AtlantaGinandTonic · 26/05/2017 13:42

I try to for myself but usually forget. I make more of an effort for my DDs though.
