To ask if you carry a bottle of water with you during hot weather?

I should, and sometimes I do, but mostly I forget. I am the trying to find an ice coffee somewhere when I am desperate for something to drink.

Probably not the healthiest idea as I walk a lot.

But you are also drinking a lot of crap when you drink squash and " pop".

usershitloadofnumbers · 25/05/2017 15:29

It's funny how it's a yes/no question, but some answers manage to give off an air superiority for not carrying one.

So true! Grin
Why does the most mundane thing has to turn in some weird competition with some people?

Mia1415 · 25/05/2017 15:31

I always have a bottle of water with me. I start getting a headache if I don't drink enough. I must drink 3-4 litres a day!

I don't drink lots of it, because I'm a fully functioning adult who has a good understanding of nutrition. Thanks for the "tip" though.

OhOurBilly · 25/05/2017 15:44

Yes, I have a reusable bottle which goes in the pocket of the nappy bag. I get headaches if I don't drink a couple of litres a day.

Westray · 25/05/2017 15:57

With the tastes of a seven year old.

BloodWorries · 25/05/2017 16:02

I want one of those ALEX bottles, they unscrew halfway so easy to clean properly, rather than hoping to get into the corners of a bottle with a baby bottle brush. Smaller for storage too. Only downside is they obviously aren't insulated, but I can cope with using my soup thermos with a cup lid (so again, easy to clean) for hot drinks, or if I want ice in during the summer.

Only issue is shipping is an arm and a leg from US. Hopefully they will come out over here eventually.

There are those easy clean ones with a removable base, but I'd rather have stainless steel if I'm going to get one.

paxillin · 25/05/2017 16:06

With the tastes of a seven year old. Wow, does your 7 year old drink "Tea, coffee, squash, wine, beer, pop, milk..." like the PP you're so referring to? I keep most of those drinks for myself, it's the 7 year old who gets water.

Westray · 25/05/2017 16:08

I don't have a 7 year old.

I would guess he too would drink pop and squash given a choice.

millsbynight · 25/05/2017 16:08

Most of the time there's a bottle of water in my handbag but almost certainly all the time in summer.

Keep hydrated!

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2017 16:11

Westray, it's very flattering that you've taken the time to become vexed by my drinking habits, but I don't think personal insults are necessary simply because I don't like the same drink as you Confused.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 25/05/2017 16:30

No I don't carry one about. I suppose I might if I was going off on a very long walk but for my standard 1 hour walks I don't feel the need. The rest of the time, I'm very lucky, I have access to taps and shops.

freshlysqueezey · 25/05/2017 16:35

I usually keep a half bottle in the freezer and if it warm take that out with me

Katedotness1963 · 25/05/2017 16:36

No, I don't. I'm the least thirsty person around. Even when we lived in the Mediterranean area I could get through a summers day on just a glass of juice. I do nag my kids to drink water in the hot weather though.

TisapityshesaGeordie · 25/05/2017 17:17

Wow, it's truly amazing what other people can get arsey about on here.

In spite of my plea for more water fountains, I don't actually like water either. I find the taste quite unpleasant. I try to drink it because I know it's good for me - hence why water fountains would be helpful to me, because if I see one I have a little drink, just because it's convenient, in much the same way as if cafes and pubs leave a jug of water out, I'll have some, but it wouldn't occur to me to ask for it.

I try to remember to carry water for the kids, but don't usually bother for me.

Fink · 25/05/2017 20:51

@paxillin
Specifically with cycling, I don't often need a loo break on the go - I think the riding position etc. might help reduce the feeling. So I can last a reasonable length ride without a stop (20 miles ish, 1.5-2 litres of water) but then I'm always desperate as soon as I get off the bike.

Also, I sweat. Probably not medically excessively but a noticeable amount.

paxillin · 25/05/2017 20:56

I see. I'm a leisurely cyclist. My bike is a shire horse, not a racer.

pringlecat · 25/05/2017 20:58

I try to remember to carry one in the summer - not because it's hot out, but because it can get hot on the underground. No one wants to be the person who gets hot, dehydrates and faints on the tube, thus ruining everyone else's journey...

Sallystyle · 25/05/2017 21:04

No.

When I'm singing in Rock Choir I'm the only one who doesn't take water with me.

Fink · 25/05/2017 21:23

I'm a lesiurely cyclist too, I don't want you to get any false impressions about my non-existent athletic physique. I just come from a family of sweat monsters! I'm on the lower end of the scale. My dad and uncle often look like they've been caught out in a monsoon.

WhooooAmI24601 · 25/05/2017 21:26

I always carry a bottle of water and make the DCs drink lots each day. I know hunger can have an impact on children's behaviour but maintain that hydration can impact it, too; I teach and always have a bottle of water in class. Each time I stop for a drink I remind the children to take one, too, and find the more they drink the calmer their behaviour.

topcat2014 · 25/05/2017 21:28

No, but then, in my office if no-one makes hot drinks on the hour every hour there would be riots.

PuffinsSitOnMuffins · 25/05/2017 21:44

No. If I'm on a hot train drinking warm water wouldn't cool me down at all. I'm not thirsty, I'm hot! Interesting that so many people do find it helps, though. Maybe I'll stop rolling my eyes at the public service announcements on the tube to 'carry a bottle of water with you in hot weather'. Most of the time I'm at home or in the office so can drink tea or cold water from the tap.

FreeNiki · 25/05/2017 21:47

No. You're not going to die of dehydration walking at a steady pace when it is in the 20c temperature zone outside.

This might shock some of you but you will not die or get severely dehydrated if you don't constantly sip water.
