To ask if you carry a bottle of water with you during hot weather?

I should, and sometimes I do, but mostly I forget. I am the trying to find an ice coffee somewhere when I am desperate for something to drink.

Probably not the healthiest idea as I walk a lot.

Not always, but often. If I'm going out for the day I will. I pretty much only drink water and don't want to have to buy it while I'm out.

agedknees · 25/05/2017 14:16

I carry a bottle and portable dog bowl for the dogs. I get quite thirsty watching them drink during a walk!!!

sockgate · 25/05/2017 14:16

To the pp who wanted a recommendation - I really like this one. BPA free, no leaks. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0060K1IIM/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1495718099&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=thermos+bpa+free&tag=mumsnetforum-21

No only if I'm going somewhere where there won't be a cafe.
I like the idea of carrying a refillable bottle but I haven't found one I like drinking from and the water gets warm which is unpleasant.
I get a coffee and a glass of tap water pretty much everytime I go out.

Westray · 25/05/2017 14:20

I don't walk much but I always have a case of water in the car, and always a bottle on the go, often tap water refilled.

I buy 50 bottles for £2.70 from Costco, so doesn't break the bank.

paxillin · 25/05/2017 14:23

Nope, I can last the 45 minutes on the bike. There is water where I come from and there is water where I am going to. If I am on a day out, I carry water.

ElphabaStrop · 25/05/2017 14:24

Yep, a little one. I don't tend to get Hangry but if I'm thirsty it makes me horribly grumpy. Plus a lot of my meds give me a dry mouth and throat so makes sense.

AugustCarrot · 25/05/2017 14:26

I carry a bottle of water with me in all weathers!

Fink · 25/05/2017 14:27

Nope, I can last the 45 minutes on the bike.
You're a cycling camel! I go 80 minutes on the bike and get through between 1 and 1.5 750ml bottles. In winter I might use slightly less than one bottle.

caffeinestream · 25/05/2017 14:37

Nope, never carry water with me.

MakingMerry · 25/05/2017 14:42

I do after I got heat exhaustion in London of all places. I have traveled to far hotter locations, but I 'm always very careful to stay hydrated. It was only about 25 degrees but sunny and I was walking across the city because I thought the tube would be uncomfortably warm.

The trouble is one of the symptoms is confusion, I started feeling dizzy, and sick. I knew something wasn't right but the whole process finding a cashpoint and then buying a drink seemed almost too complicated to manage. It took about half an hour to manage it, by which time I was feeling pretty rough. I finally got the train home, but spent most of the three hour trip vomiting.

Not pleasant. So now I'm less blase about the heat in England.

paxillin · 25/05/2017 14:45

You're a cycling camel! Grin My dad always calls me a camel because he thinks I need to drink 10x more than I do.

CheshireChat · 25/05/2017 14:45

I do because I get heatstroke very easily and I don't last long in heat without water.

I do like the PP that's saying that those of us that carry water with us are overweight, couch potatoes Hmm.

paxillin · 25/05/2017 14:46

Do you not need lots of loo breaks if you drink on the go? Maybe I have a feeble bladder or something.

Mothervulva · 25/05/2017 14:49

Always. Have done for years.

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2017 14:49

Nope. I'm not a big fan of water, as daft as that sounds, and I don't like carrying heavy items in my bag. I'm more likely to have big drinks less often rather than keep sipping on something.

Mothervulva · 25/05/2017 14:51

It's funny how it's a yes/no question, but some answers manage to give off an air superiority for not carrying one.

paxillin · 25/05/2017 14:51

I'm not a big fan of water

Me neither, it's for fish to swim in. Wine is much more fun. Frowned upon on the school run though.

delilahbucket · 25/05/2017 14:52

Yes, I always have a bottle on the go, no matter what the weather. I always have one for ds as well.

Westray · 25/05/2017 14:56

Not a big fan of water

?? What do you drink?

Dancergirl · 25/05/2017 14:58

Anyone recommend a good water bottle that's not too big and doesn't make the water taste yucky? I thought maybe Aladdin as posted upthread.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 25/05/2017 15:00

It is even possible to last HOURS without a drink without dying if you have to.

Hmm Of course it is, but having a drink of water with you on a hot day is going to make you feel more comfortable at least and stop you getting heatstroke at best. Why be a martyr?

I'd love to see more drinking fountains out and about to refill resuable bottles. I stopped in a service station on a motorway at the weekend and wanted to refill my bottle but there was no fountain and the only water in the ladies was hot, so I had a buy another bottle from WH Smith...which is of course why they do it but it doesn't do much for reducing waste!

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2017 15:04

?? What do you drink?

Tea, coffee, squash, wine, beer, pop, milk...

All the things that aren't plain water, although I do sometimes have a glass of water alongside another drink if I'm particularly thirsty or i'll have a glass of water with a meal when I want something flavourless.

I do know that all of the drinks I've listed contain water before you state the bleeding obvious.

justkeepswimmingg · 25/05/2017 15:13

Yes I do. All year around. I do drink a lot of water to be fair. I am currently pregnant, so very essential in this heat, but I never feel like I bring enough out with me.
