Link here in case anyone wants to donate:

If you look up British red cross you can donate direct to the fund. No justgiving fee. The red cross will have admin costs (like all charities) but it avoids a double deduction.

Constantlurker · 24/05/2017 18:18

No. If you donate specifically to the red cross then the money will not go directly to the bereaved/injured. It will go into all of the red cross projects. If you donate to the MEN page, the money raised will go to a specific team within the red cross who will work with the families affected.

Again. Let's CHECK OUR FACTS PEOPLE.

Constantlurker · 24/05/2017 18:26

I'm sorry if I sound mean everyone. I don't mean to - I'm just so frustrated about the level of idiocy I've seen on the internet over the last few days. People sharing fake news etc (the Ariana grande paying for funerals story is not true - someone posted it from a fan account and everyone has jumped on it assuming that it is real)

I live in Manchester and work in the city very close to the MEN Arena. The last 2 days have been truly awful and we have seen incredible kindness and generosity. But you also see a lot of complete twats who have no intention of educating themselves before posting whatever moral highground they want to jump on.

Love to all. X

Constantlurker · 24/05/2017 18:46

Apologies. BRC have set up a separate fundraising page specifically for the event that links with the MEN. I only just realised.

I'm sorry. It's been a difficult few days. x

specialsubject · 24/05/2017 18:53

No worries. Rest assured I did look first.

While everyone has to make a living , direct donation to a charity is always the most efficient way.

Nodowntime · 24/05/2017 21:35

Maybe the redcross link can be put in the OP along with the justgiving? I didn't know about Red Cross direct, otherwise I would have gone there instead.

I was googling whether Ariana was planning to donate the profit from that concert to the victims families, and couldn't find anything, and then my DD said she was paying for all the funerals, apparently it was on her Twitter (I don't use Twitter). Is it definitely not true then?

228agreenend · 24/05/2017 22:06

I'vve read that the funeral payment was mentioned on a fan site and the media picked up on. It didn't come from Ariane G's official sources. Therefore, it isn't official.

Sionella · 24/05/2017 22:44

Apparently it's some twitter account that claims to be her. Also posted a ridiculous tweet saying, "the scariest thing is, he was 22, did it on 22 May, killed 22 people etc."

That's so far from being "the scariest thing". Whoever runs it should just stop for the moment!

OP posts:
specialsubject · 25/05/2017 13:26

The twitter feed linked from her official website has nothing since 23 may. She is having no involvement. And why should she, not her fault!

redshoeblueshoe · 25/05/2017 13:43

Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney have both donated £100,000 (northwest today, BBC local news)

reawakeningambition · 25/05/2017 14:41

"I suppose the point i was trying to make is that when my father was killed in an accident, when my 2year old brother died, when my 3 year old sister lingered and died with leukemia, the grief, the emotional and financial costs were the same. We had, and expected, no help. People, young and old die every day and every one is a tragedy."

I'm really sorry for your loss.
Of course you are right. None of these families would think that their pain is somehow worse than the pain of someone whose child dies on the road.
As members of the public though we have a greater interest in and desire to help people bereaved because of murder. I don't know if that is right or wrong, I suspect there is no need to challenge it right now.

I don't think every death is a tragedy though. Roger Moore's death at 89 after a happy and fulfilling life is not a tragedy, it is as things ought to be for everyone.

BTG3385 · 25/05/2017 14:52

I see the two football clubs have donated £500k each. Pin money to them but a nice gesture all the same. What happens to the money? Does it get shared between the affected families or do they spend it on other things to help the community etc?

Sionella · 25/05/2017 15:18

The MEN is giving it to the Red Cross to distribute. Some people have also set up direct go funds for individual families.

OP posts:
redshoeblueshoe · 26/05/2017 09:04

Liam Gallagher playing at the Ritz on Tuesday, all monies to the families.

Geoid · 26/05/2017 09:14

I am wondering whether the people who have suffered mental trauma are also going to be recipients to some of this money, or whether it will just be divided up to those families where there has been a physical injury.

redshoeblueshoe · 26/05/2017 20:33

Ariana is returning to Manchester to do a benefit gig for the families.
(Sky News)

2014newme · 26/05/2017 20:42

@geoid what do you mean?

Sionella · 26/05/2017 20:50

There's also a gofundme that has raised £12,000 to buy pints for the surgeons and nurses and other staff who have been looking after the victims. I think that's fucking ace.

OP posts:
CheeseQueen · 26/05/2017 21:30

Oh wow, people really do moan about anything, don't they?!
I can understand people questioning before donating, that's only sensible.
Manchester Evening News is a huge, very legit paper.
If you don't want to donate though, that's up to you. Bit off to moan about it though.
I think it sounds like a lovely idea. It'd hardly be profiting - I assume it'd go on funeral costs/care etc which can cause thousands.

dontbesillyhenry · 26/05/2017 22:36

Shocked at some of the early posts on this thread. People have suffered the most unimaginable loss in the most awful hideous circumstances. I feel shocked to the core and wasn't at the event and not personally affected- I cannot for one second comprehend the level of pain the families of the victims are suffering. Their lives will never be the same and even if they spent the money on crisps and chocolate I wouldn't for one minute begrudge it as nothing on earth will ever take their pain away- anything that helps even slightly, yep I'm all over it

redshoeblueshoe · 27/05/2017 23:30

Thank you dontbesillyhenry.

Here in Manchester we are all trying to help each other and be nice,
so if people want to contribute - that's all fine, if you choose not to, that's fine.
Just stop criticising others - it just ain't Mancunian

Sionella · 28/05/2017 16:39

All the funds have been put together in the "we love Manchester emergency fund" - and it's over £5,500,000. Eminem has tweeted to get people to donate.

So many generous people.

OP posts:
redshoeblueshoe · 29/05/2017 22:49

Ariana Grande's brother has also tweeted a link to the fund.

redshoeblueshoe · 30/05/2017 14:26

Ariana Grande hoping to play in Manchester this weekend (sky News)
