I know IABU really.

And that it's irrational, mostly groundless and a bit unfair.

But it really annoys me!

Any other irrational annoyances out there? I have tonnes more Grin

Health - kick smokers. I don't mean smokers trying to lose a few pounds, eat more veg etc. I mean the ones who evangelise on herbal remedies, cutting out caffeine and gluten and so on while they're sat having a fag with me. What do you think is going to get you first mate, a normal cuppa or this?

It is quite annoying if large families lead to a heavy burden on the taxpayer.....but it is also vexing if people from small families are lazy/can't be bothered to educate themselves or work or whatever.

Yabu about larger families, we are expecting our fourth, but DH is an only child and so we're both his parents. So balances out.

Little kids on scooters that zoom up behind and nearly taking out my ankles annoys me!

Or when stupid people stand in doorways in public spaces oblivious to the fact they are in everyone's way.

And people who don't indicate at roundabouts Angry

Were not we're (stupid iPhone auto) that annoys me too. Add to my list! Grin

Actually have pinpointed what annoys me. Anyone that does anything that if everyone did it would lead to disaster. That encompasses having lots of children/playing loud music/driving badly/having a dog or children that bother others etc.

The vast majority of us don't do these things so we rub along ok on our crowded island. But some do and they only can because most people don't if that makes sense. And it pisses me off. In my head only but it does.

Its thoughtlessness and selfishness, focusing only on what you want to do at the expense of everyone else.

It's the conditioning of an increasingly anti-family, or more specifically anti-mother culture.

It's not your fault, but you could decide not to do it because it is unreasonable.

I am annoyed by people who block the aisle with their trolley in supermarkets and then take ages choosing what they want. I will tolerate either, but not both simultaneously!

I also get murderous when people cough in food shops. This is not irrational imo though. Please bugger off home and do your shopping online.

Avoiding As I said upthread I have a chronic cough which has lasted nearly ten months and counting. I cover my mouth when I cough.

Out of interest, how should I do my food shopping? Given that online shopping isn't an option?

Avoiding honestly - i think the way people handle their trolly in a supermarket is an indication of how they drive.

The one's who pull out in front of me, or 'park' so no one else can get by, or near the goods, or stop dead for a bloody convo in the middle of the isle get a hard stare from me. I wish trollies had horns, i'd be honking mind all round the shop Grin

The environmental impact of having children in the western world is huge, so no, yanbu OP.

Having large families in this day and age is a fundamentally selfish act.

Anytime this comes up on MN, there's lots of defensiveness from people who've chosen to have a big family and who either haven't thought about the impact on the environment or (deep down) don't care.

But if you give a shit about the planet, then yes, it's selfish.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 23/05/2017 12:16

Everything is fucking selfish.

I would love to see how all those people who bang on about big families being environmentally unfriendly reduce their carbon footprint.

I hope every single one of you recycles everything you possibly can, doesn't drive, doesn't fly, doesn't eat meat, has an immaculately insulated home including a new boiler, no halogen bulbs, the most efficient fridge/washing machine etc possible, only buys local produce, has solar panels or other sources of renewable energy, and only buy from environmentally responsible companies. If you're doing all that, then you can start to criticise others for their lack of environmental care, until then why don't you look to yourself for improvements you can make before you harp on hypocritically at others.

Report
LaurieMarlow · 23/05/2017 12:26

Having a child is one of the most environmentally impactful things you can do. Recycling and so forth is wee buns in comparison.

Report
Laiste · 23/05/2017 12:27

I agree Ex. We're all basically parasites as far as this planet is concerned. What's the old saying? ''People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones''.

Report
ExPresidents · 23/05/2017 12:31

So what Laurie, don't bother doing it? It doesn't matter how it compares, if everyone took that attitude no-one would bother recycling at all let alone doing anything else.

Do you have children? If so do you consider yourself fundamentally selfish?

Report
LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 12:33

I dont recycle. However I also don't have children, I don't drive or go away on holiday (never been on a plane)

The urge to reproduce your DNA is fundamentally selfish but that is biology for you! Nobody is saying that nobody should have children

Report
bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/05/2017 12:36

Why don't you recycle? Just curious.

Report
LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 12:37

I choose not do. Plus I don't have a recycling bin

Report
LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 12:39

And I figure I make less impact on the environment than a lot of people so I'm fine with that

Carbon footprint of households in western world is huge, however for households in developing countries their Co2 emissions are very low even if they have many children. A large family in the Western world is unnecessary and selfish IMO but I wouldn't go as far as too say it annoys me as we all make decisions which are probably not morally right 100% of the time.

I don't think you can use the socially responsible argument; because the worry is in our country , that there won't be enough young people to pay into the tax system to pay for the pensions of retiring baby boomers. In france they were offering money incentives to have bigger families for this reason. But from a green environmental reason , I do feel guilty every week I put out our family of fives, huge amount of recycling and rubbish.
One of the things we could do to help the world would be to all become vegan, because its cows that cause the biggest environmental damage to the world. One of my daughters is already vegan, and I watched a programme with her that explained about livestock causing the most damage.

Sexstarvedredhead · 23/05/2017 13:05

Why is it selfish on the state? I have 3 but were I to have more we'd still not be in receipt of child benefit? Is it because of education? That argument leads to it being selfish to have any. The point if a free education is to continue the work force. It is seen as a pay off. The number of children in an individual family in that regard is irrelevant because it's about training future workers.
