I started off thinking I'd vote SNP but I've definitely settled on Labour.

I'm not pretending that any if the available options are perfect but I feel like every time Theresa May talks about Brexit and "stands up" to Europe (our closest ally and trading partner ffs), it's a bit like cringing as a racist out of touch relative starts spouting off at a party and praying to God they don't say anything too damaging for the sake of the family's reputation.

As for strong and stable....

However, I can't pretend that Labour are much better, I just know that their view of society chimes more closely with mine.

I don't want to start a bun fight, I just want to gauge how dramatic this Tory landslide is going to be or if there's still some hope....

Dons hard hat and awaits flaming!

piglet I really don't see your issue?
I'm a new labour voter (previous green) so don't know all the ins and outs or why that website is a problem? I am merely linking to a site that has local campaigns detailed in marginal constituencies. I never said anything other so don't get your gripe?!
Here is the full list on the labour site - you put your post code in for the local campaigns nearest you.

Usually a labour voter. Not this time...I have no faith in Corbyn and am angry about the ruin of the Labour Party that he and his acolytes have caused.

Parker231 · 27/05/2017 20:30

I'd like to vote for a party who lets me know what they will do, rather than what the other parties won't do. None of the parties have presented anything realistic or believable to me so I think it will probably be a spoilt vote from me.

Squeegle · 27/05/2017 20:31

I am voting lib dem as they have the most chance of unseating evil Tory mp where I am. I would vote labour if I was in a place where this was not the case. Vote policy not personalities- and watch out for all the Daily Mail Corbyn hating. The DM has a lot to answer for.

I previously voted Tory but am very anti-Brexit and just cannot bring myself to vote Tory this time, so the Lib Dems will get my vote. I do wish Nick Clegg was still their leader, because as decent as Tim Farron seems, he doesn't strike me as a born leader, but neither does Jeremy Corbyn. I have had a bit of a struggle deciding whether to vote for the party who best represents my beliefs or the local candidate who will best serve our community. We didn't even have a Green candidate and the Labour one is unknown, because where I live it's always a two horse race between the Tories and Lib Dems.

Squeegle · 27/05/2017 20:32

A spoilt vote is such a waste- vote for the least bad option. Who do you really think is taking notice of spoiled votes??

HeavenKnowsImMiserableCow · 27/05/2017 20:39

I'm in public services and as such have always voted Labour and will do again. What's surprised me is my sister who is business minded, high earning, and previously Tory voting has changed her mind and is voting Labour as well. She says she might be personally financially better off under Tories but would feel morally bankrupt voting for them . Interesting times.

Parker231 · 27/05/2017 20:50

SQueegle - I don't want to give my vote to any of the parties - it's worth more than that!

Squeegle · 27/05/2017 20:53

Yes I do get that, but if you don't then the one you most hate may get in. And surely there must be someone who is closest to your view?

Bluebeedee · 27/05/2017 20:54

Garden geek- the political compass came up with really strange dates questions that don't really have anything to do with any current policies. I guess it's interesting to see where you sit but it doesn't seem relevant for the GE.

The yousidewith survey is also a bit misleading- it says my views are most aligned with Lib Dems but I think that's only because i wanted the uk to remain in the EU (it's something I've accepted will happen and don't agree with lib dems idea of a second referendum )
You're probably better of having a read through summaries of the manifestos to give you an idea of who to vote for, and then reading in details whichever appeals most.

Parker231 · 27/05/2017 20:59

SQueegle - I haven't found anything positive about any of the parties - very depressing! Will be so glad when the election is over.

Violetcharlotte · 27/05/2017 21:00

I've always voted Labour and always will.

If you're left and liberal then surely it can't be right to vote Tory, that is a contradiction in terms. You would be better with Green

Bluebeedee · 27/05/2017 21:30

Garden, I seem to be left/liberal/progressive on those surveys and the only parties who seem to represent my views are greens, who I used to vote for when I lived in a safe labour seat area in a Green Party ward, and Labour.

IMO (note that I'm talking personally ) I find corbyn the most progressive of the 3 big leaders, by investing into the NHS and education, and has strong principles regarding war and our level of responsibility in terrorist attacks. conservatives seem to be the most backwards thinking- e.g.- fox hunting, grammar school, free breakfast etc

Squeegle · 27/05/2017 21:34

But Garden, they are not really, they are just masquerading- I know what you're saying but it is a facade only

Squeegle · 27/05/2017 21:38

Yes, exactly Bluebee, the grammar schools and the "let every man fend for himself" attitude towards public health is what scares me the most. That and the crazy old fashioned britishcentric view of the world. No, the European Union won't let us trade on our terms just cos we say so! And Theresa May gets their backs up every time she speaks. That is what worries me.

CancellyMcChequeface · 27/05/2017 21:48

GardenGeek I really like the Political Compass site. On those 'who should you vote for?' quizzes I get all the parties bunched together at a dismal 40-50%. It's because I'm right-libertarian (moderate economic right, which equates on the chart to slightly left of Labour (!) and very libertarian) so I'm off in the purple quadrant all on my own with no party that comes remotely close to representing my views!

I used to vote Lib Dem (they used to be purple!) but they've become increasingly authoritarian over the years. I considered voting Conservative in this election, for Brexit reasons, but am probably going to spoil my ballot instead.

I took my DDs to the second big Remain rally in London and was surprised at what a bloody good speaker Farren was. Everyone is always saying he's not for charisma etc, but in the open air with a mike and a huge crowd (admittedly on a lovely sunny day when everyone agreed with him) he was really excellent.

silkybear · 27/05/2017 22:34

Garden, the Tories haven't controlled the debt, they have borrowed more than all previous labour governments put together. They are privatising the NHS, cutting police and are decimating education. My local school will be losing 2 teachers and 25k funding under the tories and I am by no means the worst effected. 'Free' breakfasts mean scrapping a free hot lunch (sometimes the only meal a child will eat all day) and it turns out only 7p per child has been allocated for it, and they have not budgeted for the extra staff needed to run breakfast clubs. They give no shits about our children, disabled people or the elderly. I've got friends who vote tory because they believe in all this and that is fair enough, but you sound more like me, green/lab/lib dem. Please read the manifestos its worth 10 mins of your time to make an informed decision. Hope that doesn't come across patronising but I am genuinely dreading this government getting in and alot of people not realising the extent of it until its too late x

Bluebeedee · 27/05/2017 23:01

Garden, yes we do sound alike in our views. NHS is the main thing for me. I've really seen its value over the last couple of years with a family member having cancer treatment. this is the reason it needs more investment, not cuts, and not privatisation.
Here's a really good video by NHS junior doctors so no political bias:
m.youtube.com/watch?v=wSmPIBJWXGM&feature=youtu.be

Re school breakfasts- this is to cut costs however they haven't detailed how this will work from the schools point of view- who's going to pay for the extra staff to come into work earlier?
