P4ORN. On a big shiny eff off 4x4. Stuck behind him on the roads today. Felt irritated that someone would pay money to declare their love of porn publicly and concluded he must be an utter wanker. Literally.

Oh and i think people get annoyed at the

'Anyone with a personalised number plate is a twat'

Generalised blanket comments...that what people think is ignorant

RockyBird · 22/05/2017 08:55

poisonous I thought it must be a foreign plate as there are no numbers other than the O or 0. Also, it is white rather than yellow.

SoupDragon · 22/05/2017 08:58

also actually couldn't give a shit what people who don't know me think about it

But you clearly do. Otherwise why make such a display?

To make a point about the people making the judgement.

-A personalised number plate is very much about making a statement..

It shouts , I'm rich , I'm special. I am a snowflake.
If you don't realise that then you are blind.

No, that is just your narrow minded opinion. You're wrong and I know you are wrong because none of the things you have said apply to me. None whatsoever.

If you don't realise that comments like yours shout "I'm a judgemental ignoramus" then you are blind.

My driving instructor used to have something like L3RNER I thought that was pretty good!

I don't understand why anyone would want most of the ones on here.

Maybe the Nob number plate is the persons initials? The number plate is not mine but they are my initials!

Not sure if the Dr who plate is British, some very old plates only have 1 number but not usually that many letters.

SoupDragon · 22/05/2017 09:02

Sorry to have hit a nerve Soupdragon.

sorry you are unable to understand what I've actually said.

PoisonousSmurf · 22/05/2017 09:02

I have a personal plate. Ends in GAR and I have Smurf stickers on my car. Makes people laugh if anything Grin

My Dad has a personalised plate, he couldn't care less about showing off, he bought it years ago because he likes it. He paid £50 & its now worth around £90k so he is pretty pleased he bought it!

I'd agree with others and say that personalised plates are twattish.
Mines personal to me, no one else has the same Grin

PoisonousSmurf · 22/05/2017 09:06

Westray, you can get plates for £250 from the DVLA. I changed my plate as the original was: SD58YCK (Sexual Disease...Yuck).

RockyBird · 22/05/2017 09:07

I've never had one but my name is available for quite a low price. I just always seem to have better things to do with the ££. I don't think the majority of PPs are twattish, but all rules need exceptions.

I worked with one bloke, who had ### HOT on his convertible BMW. He told me proudly it stood for "hold on tight". Grin . He was a short, fat, balding man with a moustache (early 2000s so not being cool) if that helps you get the picture.

Another colleague, also short and a twat, had G7 OWL. He explained to me it meant "growl" because that was the noise his car made as he accelerated. This same idiot was frequently banned from driving for speeding and also ignored the bans

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 22/05/2017 09:12

I do not feel strongly about number plates, just like I do not feel strongly about cars in general, but I will admit that when I see a private number plate, saddo springs to mind. Only for a split second mind Wink
I think it's because I can't imagine giving a shit about what my number plate says.

TheDowagerCuntess · 22/05/2017 09:12

the person had yet to come across one that made them think more of the owner.

I imagine that the owner doesn't give a shit what some ignorant, judgemental twat thinks of them.^^ Smile

Slightly disproportionate reaction from someone who supposedly doesn't care what people think...? Smile

They weren't making a negative judgment about personalised plate owners; just that they'd never seen one that made them think more of the owner. Not sure that quite qualifies someone for 'ignorant twat' status!

RebootYourEngine · 22/05/2017 09:17

Funnily enough Navy I saw a mini last night parked in a drive with S6XY as part of the plate.. I did think that the person driving it had to be extremely confident that there were indeed deemed as sexy when they drove it! How embarrassing if they're not! Grin

Tumblethumps · 22/05/2017 09:25

I think the issue is that they are attractive to twats and there is a lot of ridiculously twattish ones around even if they are only a significant minority. And because those are attention seeking and therefore, twattish, people associate private plates with that sort of twattishness even if all the plate says is something like Benjones4.
Lots of people avoid things they know to be associated with twattish behaviour. It's why for so long that we became the only country to avoid using it displaying our national flag; because it had been hijacked by and was therefore associated with, a bunch of twats with rather short hair and extreme views.

Random ones to disguise the age of a car seems relatively sensible to opt out of the new car pressure/competition, I suppose.
Wordy ones do just scream "look at me with my wonderful personalised plates. Aren't I so clever and special"
