For example, someone who would have voted Conservative but will now not or are on the fence because of what is contained in the Conservative manifesto (or Labour, Lib Dem manifesto etc).

I think all these people saying Corbyn is a lunatic are guilty of reading too much Murdoch news.

these people are not guilty of that.

I won't vote Labour whilst he is in charge. There are many like me.

At the moment I will be spoiling my paper.

HTH.

I think the Conservative care for the elderly proposals will be changing a lot of people's votes.

There may be some who don't vote because of it. Not many I wouldn't think who will completely change their mind. Pr when theu get to the booth will still put an x in that box.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/05/2017 15:37

*but when they

pinkandorangeroses · 21/05/2017 15:38

Agree with piglet

Am writing that a lot lately!

PaperdollCartoon · 21/05/2017 15:40

Could any of the people who think Corbyn is a 'lunatic' please explain why?

PaperdollCartoon · 21/05/2017 15:40

Also shocked how much the Tory's was to attack their core voters, older people with assets. It's really quite bizarre.

PaperdollCartoon · 21/05/2017 15:40

Have attacked their core voters*!

brasty · 21/05/2017 15:41

There are very few homes worth less than £100k. So lots more people will be paying for care. Lots of people receive care at home. Many people go down hill over a number of years and only go into residential care when they are really unable to manage at home. But home carers are common for many elderly people. This is going to affect a lot of people.

SnowinApril123 · 21/05/2017 15:45

Previously would never have voted Labour but this time around seriously considering it.

pinkandorangeroses · 21/05/2017 15:47

I'm surprised so many object to the older people being attacked/treated fairly depending on your point of view.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/05/2017 15:48

There is becoming a big disparancy between the young and old which is part of it. Why should for example, pensions have a triple lock when no other benefit does. It still will have a double lock which is still generous.

It is quite telling that in focus groups that were done yesterday there are Labour voters that are in favour of these policies. So I wouldn't rule out some Labour to Tory swing votes as a result.

There are quite a number that are just over it.

They think he is a lunatic because that is what the press has been saying for the last two years. Sadly people are easily influenced. Most people don't even really understand why they think this but think it's something to do with his policies. In reality they are far happier to vote for a party that will lead to worse Standard of living for the majority of the country, often include them sells because they haven't seen that they have been hoodwinked. They go on about how it is and affordable et cetera et cetera, and all the same people that blame the worlds financial crisis on the previous Labour administration demonstrating that misunderstanding of international economics. Instead they have fallen for the soundbite politics of May. A millionaire, whose own husband stand to gain from the policies she is putting forward. Yet the press have failed to rip her to shreds for this. And that one question is why? Perhaps it is because the same companies that own the media, are linked to the companies that will also benefit from those policies.

I really cannot understand any other reason why a straight thinking person would vote for a party that openly talks about reducing the safety net for the poorest in society, and benefiting the richest.

OddBoots · 21/05/2017 15:50

There aren't enough costings on the Conservative one to actually judge it - it's all rather fluffed together - surprising really given that they were the ones to actually call the election so they have had more time to plan.

pinkandorangeroses · 21/05/2017 15:50

Actually I think people dislike Corbyn because of Brexit, not the press.

NowtAbout · 21/05/2017 15:51

Please ignore all of my typos, myannoying phone no longer allows me to actually type. So this is siri'stranslation of my voice!

BillSykesDog · 21/05/2017 15:52

I was going to vote for the Conservatives but now I won't purely because of the 'Dementia Tax'.

I won't vote for Labour because I do not trust them with immigration.

I won't vote for the Lib Dems because of their stance on Brexit.

Won't vote for UKIP or the Greens because I think they are fringe nutters.

I'm probably not going to vote at all now. But if I was forced at the barrel of a gun it would probably be Labour which amazes me.

I have a feeling that the 'Dementia Tax' is going to be May's poll tax moment.

TreeTop7 · 21/05/2017 15:52

I'm shocked that the Cons have targeted pensioners.

I don't think that removing the triple lock and withdrawing the winter fuel allowance for wealthier people would necessarily have lost thousands of older peoples' votes. However, those two policies allied to the care thing could be damaging. YouGov seems to think that Cons support has dropped from 49% to 44% since the publication of the manifesto.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/05/2017 15:53

How about you stop speaking for people. I have numerous times said why I won't as have others.

I am not 'easily influenced' thank you. So how about you stop insultingand belittling people who don't agree with you.

You also assume that those that refuse to vote for him will vote Tory. In fact lots either won't vote at all, will spoil papers or vote for someone else.

HTH

Bourdic · 21/05/2017 15:53

No - I'll vote Labour but not because of anything that anyone writes in a manifesto. For me it's a question of fundamental values and the sort of society we should aspire to. The social care funding proposals say it all really. What Labour wrote about their proposals in their manifesto is just so so right - we don't choose to have cancer and have to fund the cost of treating it because of the value of our houses and other savings- we don't choose to have Dementia or PD but we are supposed to fund our care needs resulting from that.

brasty · 21/05/2017 15:54

What it will mean is that most middle class people will have a maximum of £100k inheritance to pass on.
Most people need carers at home as they get older. This will quickly eat up your assets. I don't think younger people understand how this will impact.

milkjetmum · 21/05/2017 15:54

Would never vote tory but have in past ge's voted labour, lib dem and green. Manifestos have definitely nudged me back to labour this time.

pinkandorangeroses · 21/05/2017 15:57

That's not correct brasty

brasty · 21/05/2017 15:57

Also paying for carers with the charge attached to your home, will reduce your options. Often people need paid carers, but then may go on to move to a more suitable house. If your assets are eaten away, that will not be an option.

Everytimeref · 21/05/2017 15:57

The current social care policy has an upper limit of how much you need to contribute of £75k, the new policy has no upper limit except you get to keep £100k.

brasty · 21/05/2017 15:57

Why not pinkandorangeroses

AppearingNormal · 21/05/2017 15:59

The idea of an appeasement Old Age Insurance package to the finance companies is not going to work out well for May. The Tories are completely incompetent anyway, but the Dementia Tax is either them wanting to lose the election or an absolutely delusional idea they thought they could get through without it being noticed. Either way, shows how astonishingly out of touch they are.
