To think Theresa May looks rattled

I watched the interview she gave on BBC News. She looked nervous and shaky. Do you think she's now thinking she's made a massive mistake and misjudged the Corbyn juggernaut? She looked like she was thinking "fcccccccccccccck."

I think her campaign is a bit bizarre. Clearly speaking to the public and the media is not one of her forte's, but given that this has been central to election campaigns for the several years now, it seems very odd that she's able to get away with her very stage-managed appearances. These pictures show her visit to Northumberland last week. The photos released in the papers show her seemingly surrounded by a crowd of supporters, whereas she was actually in a largely empty airfield in the middle of nowhere, which seems a bit odd to me.

It's a toughie. I would like to vote labour to hopefully benefit my constituency, however I think Corbyn would struggle with Brexit negotiations and possibly drive UK PLC into the ground, so in balance I do think this election is more 'presidental' than normal and it really is a question of who will be the better leader. I agree with the point up thread that TM doesn't want to look too cocky. Wish she'd stop talking about being a vicar's daughter and ancient 'fake news' though.

Check out the miserable 12 people who turn up to her hustings as opposed to the thousands appearing to cheer on Jez.

@gretchen

Thing is Gretchen, people won't turn out in the 1000s to cheer on Theresa May; they will sit silent, watching patiently, and they will revel in the bullshit Corbyn is coming out with, and how he keeps changing his stance on stuff (Brexit/Trident to name but 2!)

What's more, her supporters tend to be afraid to come out publicly, because they will be bashed and berated and mocked by the left wing Corbyn supporters. The left after all, cannot BEAR it when people don't agree with them. Some of them are literally rabid. So it's no wonder the people supporting Theresa are being silent and not shouting it from the rooftops.

There was a thread on here earlier about someone who had unfriended someone on facebook for saying all Tory supporters deserve to die. A tory supporter would not say that about a Labour supporter: fact.

ginghambox · 15/05/2017 23:34

She doesn't need to do anything just let Corbyn, Mc Donell , Abott , Thornberry , Rayner and his protoge Rebecca- Long Bailey make arses of themselves.

RedToothBrush · 15/05/2017 23:34

Its how she always looks. Especially when she has to answer difficult questions.

She has several 'tells'.

The first is 'let me be clear'. This one should come with a klaxon alert because whatever comes next pretty much always means the opposite to what she actually means

The second is 'I would say' or a variation of such as 'I would tell you'. This means she is about to avoid the question and spout off about something completely different to what she was just asked.

Then when she really wants to avoid a difficult question she pops out the strong and stable like.

Ironically May is terrible under pressure and when put on the spot and these tells make her easy to read. Far from being strong, she has very obvious weaknesses in certain situations. She has a tendency to crumble rather more often than the Cons would like you to know.

Its precisely why they have kept her away from the public, preferring everyone else to run around shooting themselves in the foot whilst she remains aloof and doesn't make the same mistakes because she's not in similar situations where it goes horribly wrong.

The only way May can do things is through being in control of the situation. When she's not, she not in her comfort zone. She holds grudges and manipulates the situation rather than solving problems. This is how things will play out.

Everything is about getting her off the hook for the shit that will shortly hit the fan in a spectacular fashion and finding someone else to blame. So much for accountability.

Yet its still a surprise when people get a glimpse of what May is really like when she's exposed to the public.

sigh

We are screwed. In the national interest of course... Not because someone is vastly out of their depth.

Februaryjones · 15/05/2017 23:34

No. A Tory supporter would just vote Tory knowing that people will die as a result.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/05/2017 23:46

Very true ginghambox

She isn't good under scrutiny though has improved she isn't charismatic or a good orator but she comes across as someone who gets their head down and gets on with the job

And she is at this point in time a good asset for the Tories as we move towards Brexit negotiations

She doesn't look worried and there is certainly no Corbyn juggernaut for her to concern herself about

shinyredbus · 16/05/2017 00:01

Corbyn juggernaut?! what juggernaut?! Nah - she didn't look rattled IMO but i may be biased, I'm a conservative supporter. Grin

Butterymuffin · 16/05/2017 00:17

She doesn't like talking to the public, that's clear. However, she is going to win regardless.

Re the Facebook thread earlier, I do wish in general people would stop personally attacking voters who support a different party. It's no good telling Tory supporters theyare scum or are making people die. It won't make them vote Labour, which is what we actually need them to do.

flamingnoravera · 16/05/2017 00:21

Have you noticed that she says nothing that is not prepared in advance, has no opinions and deflects questions. If you saw the interview with her and her husband the other day it was clear that he and her are actually governing, its not her its both of them. They said either could have gone into politics it just suited them for her to do the politics while he stayed in his job but they are a BOGOF. You get her and you get him too but he is no Thatcher the sequel whilst she can pretend to be. I hate to diss another woman but her strings are being pulled by Mr May. I was never a fan of the TV debate thing, too American for me but now she doesnt want to do it I think she should. I think its because she cant answer any difficult question without Mr May operating her chin.

SuburbanRhonda · 16/05/2017 00:22

Some of them are literally rabid.

You don't mean "literally", do you?

LostSight · 16/05/2017 00:30

Course she's rattled. She had to get down with the common people and eat chips. It's all terribly disconcerting for her.

But she's so strong and stable that she will win, despite having all the charisma of a chewed piece of Freedent.

Yabbadabbo2 · 16/05/2017 01:44

Could be worse one of the parties could be asking us to vote for an ira sympathiser............. Oh wait.
Corbyn juggernaut? He's got the momentum of a stone going uphill.

StiffyByng · 16/05/2017 06:12

Thing is, I have no more faith in May as a PM than Corbyn. She is too swung by the more fervent of her own party, and the Daily Mail. Nothing I have seen over the past year makes me believe Strong and Stable is true, plus she comes with social and economic policies I find truly distressing. I am very miserable about this election. There is no good outcome at all.

MakeUpMyRoom · 16/05/2017 06:19

I would like to see Labour make inroads at the GE but am genuinely afraid of the idea of Corbyn leading our country.

NoLotteryWinYet · 16/05/2017 06:22

I agree there's no good outcome, just a bad and a worse one.

MrsTrentReznor · 16/05/2017 06:25

Nope. She's got it in the bag.

makeourfuture · 16/05/2017 06:45

The people deserve a debate!!

We can all agree on that.

LovelyBath77 · 16/05/2017 06:49

Oh, I thought it was awful when she assumed the woman had mental health problems, and she was told it was a learning disability and then started saying about PIP only being 'for the really disabled' or something like that! Oh dear.

makeourfuture · 16/05/2017 06:53

for the really disabled

And this is our PM?

StiffyByng · 16/05/2017 07:16

She seems to think that mental illness and learning disabilities are synonymous. That concerns me.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 16/05/2017 07:24

To me she looks ill. She suffers from diabetes I think and on some occasions it looks like she might be experiencing a hypo. There's a photo with Nicola Sturgeon I'm particularly thinking of where she looks very very pale. I wouldn't be surprised if an aide had to lead her away and give her an emergency Mars bar as soon as the cameras stopped.
Also, yeah, clearly not in her element talking to the public.

OnionKnight · 16/05/2017 07:29

As soon as she has to go off script she looks like a rabbit caught in headlights.

TheNaze73 · 16/05/2017 08:00

Cracking up at the Corbyn juggernaut Grin

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/05/2017 08:54

"She doesn't like talking to the public, that's clear."

Fixed that for you Grin
