50p army indeed? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Cent_Party

It's obvious, but remember to check the parties manifestos and make sure you are voting for the policies you agree with, and not just being influenced by the opinions of others and the politics of inevitability.

It's kind of funny these days. They tend to try and force you defend your position in detail but tend to offer little but platitudes. Then derail.
These days I start asking them for evidence that they're right and ask them probing questions about details.
The results can be amusing.

Of course there are always odd people. So, who knows?

hackmum · 15/05/2017 17:33

YANBU, OP. Have been thinking this for a while. These people aren't very subtle.

deeedeee · 15/05/2017 17:39

it's maybe obvious to some and non influentional to others, but i think it's intentional and attempts to create an insidious atmosphere that does influence people.

Yanbu op.

I don't know if they are being paid but I find it pretty tiresome that the politics threads are quite so dominated by so few posters, who don't post on any other subject.

And why can't they just be upfront? That's what I can't stand ... the dishonesty of it all.

brasty · 15/05/2017 17:44

I have suspected this for a while. Either paid, or volunteers, but certainly not just ordinary people commenting.

PortiaCastis · 15/05/2017 17:44

YANBU and it is very obvious, always the same few names posting for the party faithful.
Anyone remember isitmebut now she was very erm political !

7Days · 15/05/2017 17:46

I don't think it's hyperbolic to consider the possibility. Lots of political figures come on to do webchats, right up to PM level, and wasn't the the outcome of the previous gen election decided by Mumsnet Woman, who all parties were desperate to court?
So the parties obviously think MN is worth it. I'd be surprised if shadowy cabals weren't interested in pulling our strings too.
As for ordinary foot soldiers on the doorsteps, why wouldn't they 'canvass'from the comfort of their own home and reach how many engaged voters? Its rife, but you can't stop people being interested and chatting about politics so the onus is on the rest of us to have a bit of cop on about what people say on the internet.
Maybe the providers out to issue the household with a big sack of salt the day they come to set up the router

BelleTheSheepdog · 15/05/2017 17:49

Engaging with the type of poster that I think OP means reminds me of conversations I had as a youth with dedicated Marxists / SWP types. And they did it for free back then.

Do they get paid nowadays?

If I was paying them I would want them to be more plausible.

brasty · 15/05/2017 17:50

It is bloody annoying though.

deeedeee · 15/05/2017 17:52

I think Mumsnet should treat them the same way as trolls and update their community guidelines to forbid 50 p army trolls.

although i guess it's difficult to figure out who is and isn't.

OP posts:
MagicTractor · 15/05/2017 17:52

I don't doubt it happens but it's def. on both sides.

I'd be all over 50p a post though - where do you sign up?

TheInimitableMrsFanshawe · 15/05/2017 17:54

In other words vote for the Labour party

Quit frankly it feels like the other way around most of the time. The left wing bias on MN is absolutely extraordinary and totally unrepresentative of what I see in the outside world.

I do wish people would be better informed about which government to blame for the various ills of society they're complaining about as well Hmm

brasty · 15/05/2017 17:56

I suspect it is from both sides. And I don't appreciate it from anyone.

MagicTractor · 15/05/2017 17:57

But how would you know? It's very easy to accuse someone of being a stooge if they don't agree with you.

deeedeee · 15/05/2017 18:01

i guess it's similar to being a troll. That if they never post about anything but politics then alarm bells ring. Although I guess it's easy enough to comment on a few other threads a week to keep your cover.

Personally I think mumsnet is quite balanced these days. I usually find it very right wing.

OP posts:
brasty · 15/05/2017 18:05

Its not about people disagreeing, that happens all the time. Its the way they do it.
Its like with Trolls when it just does not add up.

MagicTractor · 15/05/2017 18:08

The only one I saw that seemed like a bit of a party political broadcast was for Labour.

There's loads of Corbyn threads but that strikes me as pretty normal, it's been a huge debate for ages.

Valentine2 · 15/05/2017 18:08

Vote for the policies you like.
Just get out and vote.
DOnt know about paid posters etc. I am a regular and keep posting on all sorts of threads.

deeedeee · 15/05/2017 18:08

yeah it feels as if they have guidelines

OP posts:
user1471596238 · 15/05/2017 18:11

Regardless of the discussions and views espoused on the various threads, I would be surprised if most people haven't already decided on who they are going to vote for.

MagicTractor · 15/05/2017 18:12

I don't know I really wavered this time and I've always voted for one party.

Not sure if mumsnet would change my mind though.

brasty · 15/05/2017 18:12

MagicTractor there is one running at the moment against Labour that seems to me to have people who are being paid or volunteering to post on it.

deeedeee · 15/05/2017 18:31

The whole Emily Thornberry thread was full of 50p ers ... is that the one you mean?

OP posts:
Lweji · 15/05/2017 18:36

I often accused claig of being a bot or a troll, but then I was mean!

No evidence (damn you MNHQ), except that that username has vanished along with a few others at the same time (and went on, ahem, holiday over Christmas) but I think I was right.

MagicTractor · 15/05/2017 18:39

Really? I remember that name. Lots of railing against the metropolitan elite?
