DH picked a shirt from my Next catalogue and I went to pick it up for him. He was at work. So I sent him a picture and said I'd picked up his little shirt (it was for a night out). His mate saw the message and laughed at him and later on sent him a photo of the shirt we was wearing for the night out and said "here is my little tattoo showing shirt".

DH says I've made him a laughing stock but the Dawn doctor often picks up clothes etc for her DH and he doesn't react like this.

Now, I do call people (even some animals) names, if I don't know their real names, or a nickname is better..

etc etc.. but I'd never put them in a thread! (err I know I just have, but to illustrate a point)... as they are 'in' jokes. Just like I'd never put them in general conversation , except maybe the ones that are mine and DP's neighbours and we've probably coined their names together.

Oh god! This is one of the weirdest threads I have read.

There's a TV presenter who is a doctor and called Dawn: Dr Dawn Harper who has appeared on Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies.

No idea if she collects shirts for her husband though. Although it seems she divorced in 2015.

OP, normal people don't tend to use the names of random characters in their anecdote when they are talking to will have no idea who the hell those characters are.

Example:
Weird person's anecdote: "Dean broke his leg the other day". Audience: "Huh. Who the hell is Dean? Why are you assuming I know who you're talking about? I don't know anyone called Dean."

Normal person's anecdote: "My husband's friend broke his leg the other day". Audience: "Oh that's a shame. How did he do it?"
