To have two sets of tea, coffee, sugar canisters?

Just wondering what you all do when one of the above canisters need cleaning? Do you wash and dry it and refill it straight away or what?

I only do washing up once a day (immersion heater only and no dishwasher). So, say, my sugar canister is dirty I will put it in with the washing up that night. But it means I am spooning the sugar out of the bag all day!

The set I have I love but cannot get another one anymore. It's old and came from Woolworths originally.

I don't want to mix and match a set in use iyswim.

Should I get rid of my current set and buy two new matching sets so I can instantly get a fresh one of out the cupboard to use?

Trivial, really, but I am chronically disorganised and am determined to fix these niggles.

Just wash it, dry it and put it back.

Put contents into bowls or similar. Boil Kettle if you need hot water, wash, rinse, dry, refill

So do-it-as-you-go eh? I think that attitude is what I need to adopt if I am ever to get clean and tidy! I am a putter-offer. Bad, bad!

I'm also never confident I have got it fully dry and worry about the sugar getting damp.

I can't recall the last time I washed the tea/coffee jars out!

How often do you do it that it's a consideration?

I would only wash it when empty. Then dry and then refill. Can't see the issue really here!

I put it in a bowl or wait until it's empty and then use it straight from the packet until the canister is clean and dry. Mostly a problem with my salt grab actually because that lives by the hob and gets grease splatters while tea caddy lives in cupboard.

I just fill on top.

I have one of those tea caddies that came with my teabags - I have never thought to wash it, I just tip out the tea powder that lingers in the bottom every now and then. I now feel like a slattern.

Having two means storing the unused ones.

I'd rather just spoon sugar out of a bag until my canister was washed/dried.

Is it really so terrible to spoon out of the bag for a few hours?

I only clean mine when I've run out of current contents. I also keep sugar in bag in the tin. So I run out of sugar, get new bag out and use out of bag while wash and dry tin then pop new bag in.

(Tea bags and loose coffee go straight in tin I just can't put sugar in. Seems unhygienic - cause sugar goes hard? - never realized how that's a bit odd before!)

I'd only ever (and very rarely) wash out the inside of a food container when it was empty. And I'd probably just hand wash it mostly. I think you are over thinking this! Double sets of containers equals double clutter!

Mine seem to get filthy!

We get fingermarks on them and the coffee one gets granules of coffee down the outside that melts and looks disgusting.

Also dust gathers?

What has brought this to mind today is hearing about someone who is planning to visit me this afternoon. Had very little warning. Sigh!

Looking at stuff through new eyes and my canisters are filthy. I have no cleaning routine. Everything needs clean all at once.

at the horror of spooning it out of the bag all day! Besides, I'd be a bit worried about my sugar intake if I were spooning it out often enough to bother me for a day.

Yet if you saw my place. It's not clean at all!

You lost me at "when they need washing"

It doesn't help that my DH's hands might not be 100% clean before he handles the canisters, but that's a separate problem.

I'm surprised it's surprising.

I read here all the time about people doing crazy stuff like vacuuming under beds and washing their windows inside and out on a regular basis

How often do you wash them and how much tea/coffee/sugar do you use that spooning out of the packet for a couple of hours is an actual issue?!

My go through the dishwasher when empty, refill when clean, but in the meantime just use tea/coffee out of the tin/box. I don't have a sugar container
